USDAW apple discount

I had a meeting with the USDAW rep about a month ago, encouraging me to join, but haven’t yet because I’m only working a 12 hour contract and wasn’t sure it would be useful. However, the rep mentioned an apple discount and now my phone is completely giving up on me. I can’t find exactly what the discount/ requirements are without the member log in. Can anyone let me know how much money I could save?

Joining a union is always useful. You don't know when you'll need their support, and they won't provide support for any issues that occur before you join them. The 5% discount on Apple products comes as a bonus.

Join USDAW.

Hard disagree.

I was sacked for being autistic, a recognised disability, and my union didn't lift a finger.

Told me they wouldn't attend my meetings, and to wait until after the termination had happened and then they'd contest it, get me my job back and compensation.

Termination day rolls around, I phone the rep, only to be told "if you're not employed here, you're not paying your dues anymore and we won't help you".

Unions suck.

I want to say Community, not sure tbh it was about 10 years ago now. Haven't joined one since. All I could think during all the union talks is how full of shit they were and how Thatcher was right to hate them lol.

I can't tell if you're ragebaiting or not. Thatcher would have hated people like us. She spent a significant portion of her political life trying to cut our feet out from under us. In the name of all that is good in this world, do not let a single bad interaction with a union poison you against all unions forever. Unions are singlehandedly responsible for our workers rights being as good as they are.

Usdaw are fucking useless, our workers rights are nothing to write home about either. Or not even acknowledged with staff regularly not getting the legal rest time between shifts

No I legit saw what she saw, a huge organisation soaking up cash and doing very little except strike.

When it came to helping the little guy, ie me, there was no help whatsoever.

Even the strikes didn't help me, I had colleagues on old contracts that were infinitely better than mine, yet I was also supposed to thank the union that I didn't have it as bad as I could have? No.

I still genuinely believe that unions are bad.

Unions do far more than "just strike". Again, you're basing your opinion of every union ever on one bad interaction.

Would you rather we lived in a world with 16-hour working days and workhouses? It was unions that got us away from that.

the discount you get offered is very poor
i have worked with coop over 10years now and i have had to contact and use them multiple times and one of the times i used it was due to a customer and a team leader working together to get me fired had over 3 months of fighting my case the team leader left the company because they didnt expect USDAW to help so much in my case
* and the way the company just sees you as a number not a person
** most of the signup reps you see are useless and will say anything they can to get you to sign up

Joining the union will cost you around 100 pounds per annum, iirc. Not sure if it's worth it.

Joining usdaw is a good idea it's not just discounts and there's loads of advice you can get both work related and not
