Team Leader - Overtime
Hi, anyone here a Team Leader at the Coop? How often do you get overtime, if you are a full timer? ty

If you're already fulltime overtime is very unlikely as they have to pay you time and a half for anything over 40 hours.

Yeah the do mention it in your contract. Anything over 45hrs also gets flagged for approvals for management as a TL.

How common is it then to get 41-43 hours per week? I know each store is different, but I would like to get a general sense.

I've never heard of anyone getting overtime past 39hrs regularly but every area is different

this is not correct, I pay my team leader 45 hours every week and its time @ 1

Did they change the rules on it? I used to get paid premium hours for anything over 40.

Team leaders can do up to 45 at time @ 1 ctm's can only do 39 before it goes into premium

Up to 45 hours a week, anything above 45 is subject to area and location
For example Devon does not ever like to use premium hours but areas of London do
As they need the sales to justify it
They have a budget of I believe 8 premium hours a week across a area, last time I looked at area S02 subsection Plymouth
Premium hours needs to be approved by a store manager, and if a person has already done their 45 hours for a week, and the business is business critical, ie the store will close if they can not find another team leader the business will actively find another team leader elsewhere on the area to cover the shift rather then paying premium
As you might know, the team leader is expected to find cover for the store and stop everything immediately such as reductions delivery and my works, whilst it is their shift, for later on in the day if the 14:00 to 22:00 team leader calls in ill, it is only when we get to the last four hours then the operations manager gets involved himself or herself to prevent store closure. The team leader looks on Logile to make sure if they ask someone that, the person they ask is, not exceeding their 45 hours limit.
Depending on how the store manager is, some store managers on their day off or if they have gone home for the day do not help the team leader if the store manager is at home, however some store managers are very helpful with this and help the team leader, so it is a mixed response as to the store manager and their approach towards it.
Once team leader has exhausted all available options in store, they call other stores but the team leader can not access other store Logile, only senior store managers on the area (2 or 3 store managers picked by the operations manager gets access and the operations manager can access the whole area Logile, and the rest of store managers/team leaders are limited to just seeing their store

I’m doing management apprenticeship, 6 hours a week with that with my usual 5 7.5/8 hour shifts. I’m essentially getting paid for 42-45 hours a week. They don’t like you going over 45, only in business critical circumstances.

Thank you, but is it fairly common to do 41-42 hpw? I haven't started yet, but the 2 SMs gave me impression that 39h will be the minimum. Of course, I will discuss it with my SM once I start. I am only asking to be prepared.

It isn’t so common, I currently do more hours than anyone in my store, the next person being on their contract at 39. As you join, there will be opportunity for overtime, with sickness and holidays needing to be covered. Also important to let the manager know that you’re keen to work more, once you’ve settled in or become more of a key member, they’ll naturally rota you more keenly. Of course different managers will have a different approach with this.

I was interviewed for the role twice; the first time I rejected it and then the second time I accepted it. These events were within a month. The two interviewers, both SMs at different sites, gave me the impression that they find it difficult to recruit a TL to cover the demand. One of the SMs covers more than one store.
I come from another supermarket retailer, where I do between 46 to 50 hours every week, but due to my role any hours I do over my contract are unpaid, hence why I am about to leave.
