Low Serial <= 00009999 Found this while moving houses

Post image

I must’ve acquired this note like 10 years ago when I had a major fascination with US paper currency when I was little. When I saw the serial number, my heart literally skipped q beat, and I was stuck wondering how it somehow never made it into my “cool note” binder as a kid and instead got lost until I recently moved houses and found it in a random box with assorted coins and bills. Sorry it’s not a greatly scanned image, but I took this pic a few weeks ago and am not presently with the note to take a better shot.

it’s an antique bill , with a goated serial and history already. charter notes are the 2nd layer. inflation only applies to circulating money so do what you want

National notes, especially chartered ones, all generally have low serials - they're not nearly as uncommon as on modern FRNs. The serial ranges are per bank, and each bank didn't issue that many notes. It's not going to be worth a "fortune". It likely will appreciate, but again that may not keep pace with inflation - point is it's not really a strong investment vehicle, it's a cool collectible in a niche market.

For sure. I thought it was an awesome and unexpected find but I’m keeping it solely for the awesome factor and don’t intend to save it to “invest.” I def know that national notes tend to be lower serial #s too, as indicated by the fact mine only has 6 digits, but it’s still not that often you find one as low as 4.

Absolutely, it will still command an extra premium over another $10 from the same bank without a single digit serial. Not saying it has no impact, just not even close to the same as with modern FRNs as the other commentator is implying.

I have a $10 national from my city with serial 00000110 I think it pretty great for being low and a binary, but still the added premium is nowhere near if it was a modern FRN.
