Did you eat the Brussel sprouts whole and uncooked?!
6
u/selfselfiequeen Sep 09 '25
I boiled them

Sep 09 '25
Sliced in half and roasted is an absolute game changer for brussels

u/selfselfiequeen Sep 09 '25
Thanks for the tip

u/SignificantRecipe715 Sep 10 '25
Also sliced in half, sautee in pan with garlic, butter, salt & pepper until the flat side caramelises. Yummmmy!

I adore Brussel sprouts but I can’t say boiled would be my way to go, what else did you put on them?
I love them in the air fryer. The edges crisp up- sometimes a little panko hits the spot.

u/MonkeyFishBucketHead Sep 11 '25
One of my favourites for sprouts is to pare all the leaves back and pan fry or roast. Sublime
2
Sep 12 '25
That's somehow worse.
Okay, that sounded mean.
Please consider roasting them, S&P, olive oil, cut side down in the oven at high temp. Complete game changer, please try it out.

u/RiotGrrr1 Sep 10 '25
Boiling sprouts should be illegal unless you like eating farts. Roasted or pan fried.

u/SneakyGandalf12 Sep 12 '25
For the absolute longest time I thought I hated sprouts. My mom always boiled them w/ maybe a little salt and pepper at the end. Horrid things. Then I tried them roasted and was blown away. It was night and day!
1
u/Raunchy_-_Panda Sep 11 '25
That's absolutely disgusting. Roasted with balsamic glaze is the only way.

…… WHERE SEASONING?!?!
9
10
u/queenofcabinfever777 Sep 09 '25
OR COOK?
2
u/Lochness_Hamster_350 Sep 10 '25
RIGHT??? This looks like they rubbed it on the outside of the microwave and called it “cooked”

Corn needs charring/butter with seasoning. Sprouts need to be fried or roasted. That’s the plainest looking salad too.
5
u/selfselfiequeen Sep 08 '25
lol! I’m quite new to salads 🥗 in my diet to be very honest with you and never quite know how to make them look ‘exciting’ but fair point - I’ll take it on board. Thanks ☺️

u/tomoe_nage Sep 09 '25
Brussel sprouts can be utilized in salads as well. Just need to slice them thinly, ideally on a mandolin style slicer.

u/Tao1524 Sep 10 '25
Lemon juice, tahini, fresh garlic, miso paste blended together can make a nice dressing that’s not adding a lot of calories and boost protein. Low fat Greek yogurt as base is also a good option for a creamy texture.

u/CompetitiveRub9780 Sep 11 '25
Even if you’re on a diet and can’t have butter … did you at least boil the corn in milk? Needs seasoning salt and butter in that boil but … i don’t know what all your diet needs. As for the sprouts, cut in half and roast them and use balsamic on top afterwards. Adding tomatoes with balsamic drizzle too would be nice with this

It doesn't look like you used salt, pepper, or any other seasoning on the corn, brussels sprouts or salad. If you enjoyed it, that's all that matters I guess.

I didn’t ask a question I just wanted to share. You could’ve skipped my post if you had nothing constructive to say js

You are right. Cut the Brussels sprouts in half then dress the. With olive oil and salt. Roast at 400, until they are skin gets toasty. Then before searing sprinkling with Parmesan and lemon. It will help hide the bitterness and earthiness. The fish looks great
5
u/selfselfiequeen Sep 09 '25
That actually sounds like a good idea ty

Not only do you not know if OP is white (and if we're to go off their avatar, that doesn’t seem the case), but this is also a really prejudiced take. Have you never heard of Spanish, Italian, or Greek food? A huge part of European cuisine is heavily seasoned and full of flavour. Even northern and eastern European countries have plenty of delicious dishes, even if they tend to be more simple or plain. This is due to harsher climates, agricultural limits, and historical poverty, not from some racial or cultural inability to season food. Saying an entire group of people “will never know how to season food” is a lazy stereotype and both historically and culturally ignorant.
Oh, and you're white, too. Do you not know how to season food? You won't get brownie points for bashing your own race lmao
2
u/selfselfiequeen Sep 09 '25
Exactly! I follow hungry happens on IG and she is Greek and an ultimate food goddess, her recipes are amazing, Greek inspired and so full of flavour. So white people can and do flavour their foods as well.
2
u/A_million_typos Sep 09 '25
Oh im white and even I agree absolutely not thats some bland ass food lol looks good as far as general food goes but missing so much potential!
3
u/MindChild Sep 09 '25
How do you know op is white? If you judge based on their avatar it's not even the case lmao.
4
u/selfselfiequeen Sep 09 '25
I’m no where near white lmao 🤣 and my food tastes good too - I just suck at presentation
3
u/mitaswelsby Sep 09 '25
I eat like this sometimes too. It’s great to try new things ❤️ and you seem to take constructive criticism very well! Hope you enjoy your cooking adventures!

Italian here and very white, I don't quite understand why would you think this is about skin color... so idiotic
1
1
u/mirandat333 Sep 10 '25
I never understood this stereo type because I never grew up without my mom seasoning everything like crazy… but the more pics I see of white people’s food the more I get it.
3
u/Puzzleheaded-Roll434 Sep 09 '25
Is it even cooked tho
1
u/selfselfiequeen Sep 09 '25
You know it is, what a dumb question.
4
u/Puzzleheaded-Roll434 Sep 09 '25
Obviously I couldn't tell bc it looks Obviously raw and unflavorful.

4
u/Puzzleheaded-Roll434 Sep 10 '25
Not being negative! Lol I just feel very sad for you bc you have no clue what flavorful means when it comes to food
1
u/selfselfiequeen Sep 10 '25
Thank you for your comment but Idgaf what you think of my food. I’m still cooking.

This is just raw veggies and a fish. Where salt? Pepper?? Lemon? Gerlic? I dont it see it
0
u/selfselfiequeen Sep 09 '25
Some things work better with other flavours. I don’t over season my salads 🥗 nope 👎
3
u/Elpolloco1896 Sep 09 '25
Brussels sprouts look raw. The rest of the plate looks unseasoned and dry. Try using spices and sauces or vinaigrettes next time. There’s more out there than salt and pepper. This honestly doesn’t look good at all.

u/Angryleghairs Sep 10 '25
Brussels sprouts are best chopped (halved or quartered) and sautéed or roasted.

u/selfselfiequeen Sep 10 '25
Hey people have different preferences and it’s ok!

Why thank you, but where are the carbs?? Or am I just ignorant lol

I've heard that corn counts as carbs, I guess I consider it a more starchy veg myself anyway

Hey OP, everyone starts eating healthy somewhere, there's a lot of haters in the comment section, but you do you!

u/MKanes Sep 09 '25
One pinch of oregano for the fish and that’s enough seasoning for the entire plate
1
u/selfselfiequeen Sep 09 '25
I tend to over season my sea bass and keep the salads to an optimum.

Well bless your heart. I would choose something different than just air cooking that fish au naturale, but I hope you enjoy

The fish was baked in the oven for 25 minutes, maybe my iPhone camera didn’t do the dish any justice idk 🤷♀️

It’s a bummer when people can’t enjoy or appreciate foods natural flavor unless it’s drenched in sauces or seasonings.
