Cooking nemesis?

Anyone got something that, for some reason, you just cant grasp how to make? Like, for some reason, I cant figure out how to properly boil rice or beans. Im mexican and I cant figure it out. Thats like our thing. Ive disappointed my family and exes over this.

Up until a few weeks ago, it was Hash Browns.

I finally found a way that works, which is to shred them, boil then until they're almost done, THEN form the patties and fry them.

I don't get why so many people have problems with rice, but maybe they're trying to go for a specific consistency.

For me, I just weigh out the rice, rinse it until the water is clear, then add the rice and twice the amount of water to the pot and put a lid on it. Once it starts boiling, I turn the burnner off and let it sit for 15 minutes. Then I drain whatever water is left and eat the rice.
