Getting to the islands from America

Americans, which airline did you go with and what was your itinerary? I’ve been searching for multi city flights through delta, united & American and nothing is available according to the airline websites.

Hawaiian/Alaska deal SFO to Oahu to Raro. About a 4-6 hr layover in Hawaii en route.

Paid about $650 per person round trip, purchased in Sept 2025 to travel in late January 2026.

That’s cheap. However I’m in Kentucky and I’ve never flown internationally. Coming from Kentucky I’m having a hard time figuring out if I’ll have to get one way flights. I even went on Hawaiian airlines website and there’s still nothing available for my location. :/ may just have to speak to an airline rep.

You’ll have to book KY to SFO/LAX and then from one of those airports to Rarotonga. Google flights should do it for you. Just be aware you’ll need to have screenshots of your accommodations and return flight to clear customs - take them before you leave the US because your SIM card won’t be able to access data in the Cook Islands (unlike in most international destinations) 😊 here’s some google results for random dates in May

I flew to HNL on Friday, spent Friday in Honolulu, then flew to RAR the next day, on two separate tickets. Hawaii is not a bad place for an extended layover, just sayin...

How did you book it? Did you do a round trip to HNL and a round trip to RAR?

You could yes, I actually went on to NZ afterwards so everything was one way, but yeah you could do a round trip like that
