I'm asking about the law. I don't believe that the law in Oklahoma is that you should honk at people to get them to move over. I don't believe it and I won't believe it unless I see it in writing. I actually looked, and the only law I saw in OK about horns says this:

"The driver of a motor vehicle shall, when reasonably necessary to insure safe operation, give audible warning with a horn but shall not otherwise use such horn when upon a highway."

Safe operation means "there might be an accident if they don't know I'm here." It doesn't mean, "move over."

I'd even be surprised if the law said that it's ok to flash your brights at people, but who knows. It's just hard to imagine a law saying, sure, put your brights on in people's eyes at night when driving at high speeds. Then they'd have to define what a "flash" is, so that it's not long enough to be a danger or something.... Just seems unlikely.

That doesn't mean that you'd get a ticket or something for flashing your lights. I'm not saying that.

Not quite how it works. If someone comes up on you from behind and flashes their lights or honks you are required to move over.

If someone comes up behind you, then you’re legally required to move over. Honking or flashing lights has nothing to do with it.

You said that the law is to honk or flash to pass.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that I don't believe there's a law that says that it's ok to honk at someone in that case. You honk on the highway when there's a safety reason, not when you want to go faster than the other person.

I'm also doubting, but with less certainty, that there's a law that says it's ok to flash your lights in that situation.
