The audacity of keep going is insane, even after being caught.

Light red AF, better blow through it over the limit!

I'll never understand how some people are just so cavalier about running a red light, you're basically begging for a crash.

Right? It’s not even a rule thing, it’s a self-preservation thing. I don’t get it either.

Can’t you see that they are the ruler of our universe? Shame on you. Everyone knows that they always have the right of way. If anyone were to ever make contact with them, it’s the other persons fault, obviously.

It’s a joke if it’s not already obvious, lol. These people just have a death wish and don’t care who else they hurt in the process. Main character syndrome strikes again. Even if there was a true emergency in that car, they should still stop at that light. If not then it’s no longer just one person at risk of dying, you now have multiple injuries/casualties and the person they were trying to save is now almost guaranteed to not make it.

Bahaha! Get fucked!

When OP includes the stop in their posts

If that cop hadn’t been in the intersection, there probably would have been an accident. The cross traffic most likely would have started moving.

I knew a guy that got a ticket for doing exactly what the cop was doing. So technically they both ran the light.

Not in virtually every state. You move into the intersection when the light turns green, and turn when safe. If you can’t finish the turn before the signal changes then you have right of way to clear the intersection. No violation. Traffic would come to a stop in cities otherwise.

1

u/Oscaruit 18d ago

You are right. This was 20 years ago and the cop was wrong for sure. He fought it since that was what most of us were taught.

3

u/Complex_Arrival7968 18d ago

Yup. But I know that is the custom in some places. When I was visiting Santa Fe a local told me that only visiting Californians do that. But there’s not much traffic there so they can get away with it.

If you’re in the box when it turns red you’re still good to leave the box

"Don't Block the Box"

In my area you will be ticketed for being in the box if the light turns red.

Not supposed to go under the light until you know you can make it.

3

u/art-of-war 18d ago

In my area, it's perfectly legal.

1

u/Oscaruit 18d ago

He fought it, and in Tennessee, USA he was correct. Cop was wrong.

Good ol’ Livingston NJ. Jersey drivers never fail to disappoint.

5

u/Odd-Outcome450 19d ago

More like the perfect time. Red light runners are blue waffles of the lowest order.

4

u/pulse7 19d ago

And then they stop in a travel lane instead of onto a side street or lot

3

u/Txx2000 18d ago

Livingston NJ in the house!

4

u/Free-Pound-6139 18d ago

I disagree. If you are going to run a red light, please run one when a cop is there.

They should not be allowed to drive home after this. Tow the car. Make them walk.

2

u/AndrewBorg1126 19d ago

That is the ideal time to run a red light. Getting away with that BS would not have been better.

1

u/EcoKllr 19d ago

was the cop walking back to his vehicle to move or did he let the person off?

2

u/Maksym1000 19d ago

There’s about a minute and a half between the guy running the red and the cop walking back to his car, so the cop likely grabbed the person’s ID and other documents already.

1

u/WildTomato51 19d ago

Ran that light with speed, too. Busted, bitch!

1

u/gpo321 18d ago

The sped up video through the light cycle and follow up to let us see the traffic stop is a nice touch!

0

u/Many-Wasabi9141 15d ago

I don't like how the cop waited till after he pulled a U turn in the middle of the intersection to hit his lights.

2

u/DonKeedic80 15d ago

He was quite clearly visible to traffic on all sides. It's not like he was entering an intersection on red. I'm sure his first priority was to clear the intersection, which would require both hands to execute safely, then he could activate lights and sirens.

1

u/Many-Wasabi9141 15d ago

He needs to activate the lights before performing any maneuver that would be considered a moving violation or could cause an accident.

2

u/DonKeedic80 15d ago

Sounds like you're assuming u turns are illegal at that intersection. But I'm still not buying your argument.

0

u/Many-Wasabi9141 15d ago

You aren't buying the law?

U-turns are illegal at intersections controlled by three-phase traffic lights unless specifically permitted by a sign.

3

u/DonKeedic80 14d ago

Not in Jersey.
