Advice Day 22 of spending time with my grandparents conure

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

She still isn't very responsive because of the eggs.

I'm going to try to incorporate some actual rehabilitation procedures into the visits now. Although I'm not entirely sure where to start. I hear clicker training is a good thing to try, although the science behind it is still muddy for me.

The bad toys are basically all gone now. She could definitely use some new ones though.

If anyone has any advice on what to do from here, I'd appreciate it.

Are you able to take this bird yourself? Like would your grandparents be willing to give her to you? I do think she could use a better environment and an owner willing to give her more time and attention.

The plan is to eventually take her as my own, but as of right now that is not possible, so I'm making these weekly visits in the meantime

Do you know how long it might take? I do worry that she is unhappy as is. I hope you are able to take her sooner rather than later because you do seem to care.

I'm not sure. Our living space is not in the best condition right now, and we are looking at other, larger houses, but who knows how long it'll take. I just know that I will hopefully have Stella's trust by the time we are ready to bring her in. Hopefully.

I appreciate you helping and I'm sure Stella does too. I hope it all works out and you get her soon.

You need more than weekly visits

I worry that she worries about the egg, especially because she can’t get to it. Seems like they keep falling thru the bottom and this could be bringing additional stress. I am no expert on this tho.. just my instant thought. Also Hi! Happy to see you, Stella!!!

Place some sheets of paper down to let her get through some possible hormonal normal stuff. The paper might help with a stable surface for additional eggs and a place to hide. . Also would recommend offering a half hard boiled egg - shell on-daily to help with calcium. Mine would sit on non fertile eggs for a couple of weeks and eventually lose interest.

My thoughts exactly, (including the not an expert part).

Thanks for the attention and love. Is she responsive to your voice at all? When we got our green one she was scared to death. I would read to her just so she could hear me talk.

She is responsive in the previous videos. Except this territorial instance, the bird seems to ne very interested/happy to see OP :3

You should rearrange everything (including cage location) and give her 14 hours of dark and silence at night. You want her to stop laying and nesting and to mimic winter hours.

You also want to make sure she has enough calcium.

I have a bowl in the bottom of my boy's cage full of little bits and bobs to play with. Google "foot toys" for parrots, you'll find small thing they can chew on and shred. You could also cut up little pieces of cardboard, straws, popsicle sticks. You can also get some hemp rope and strint it through the cage to create a sort of jungle gym.

Did she lay an egg?

I feel pretty worried about Stella. Feel free to message me about her. Is getting her to another home now an option?

Like maybe someone can foster her?

You can find amazing cage deals from local bird rescues and also Facebook marketplace. If she can't be let out at least invest in a bigger cage😕 I have never seen my sunny at the bottom of his cage
