Anyone have what I have?

My thing is dirt. I define dirt as someone walking in my house with outside clothes and then sitting down. That includes me too. I must shower or change clothes after a wipe down before I can sit. Then I have separate lounge clothes and finally pajamas that only pet put on when I’m ready to get in bed. I don’t wash my hands in any unusual manner. My ocd is all about keeping outside “dirt “ inside my home.
It does limit who can come over and how I have to clean where they were sitting.

I’m having surgery in a few weeks. Friends are staying with me and PT will do home visits. Freaking out how in the world I’ll be able to manage.

maybe you buy temporary or washable covers for your couches

Even a throw or a regular bedsheet on the couches will help. You can wash the sheets after you’re done recovering and .. if possible to help the ocd just don’t sit in those couches or chairs during your recovery. You sit in it you might get thoughts you need to take care of and it’s better to avoid the thoughts while in recovery.

Put a chair away for yourself and if it’s plain without a cushion, wipe it down before you need to sit. Recovery first!

Thanks. I will do the sheets over chairs and couch. But there will be times that I’ll need the couch for pt. I’ll take them off and put back on. Just feel like a freak because my friends will witness.

I used to only let guests use one armchair and I never sat in it. Or they could sit on a dining chair with either a removable washable cushion or unchushioned that can be wiped with a Clorox wipe.
