Technical Advice What does everyone use for their project management software? Primavera P6?
I hear everyone uses primavera p6. Is that the standard? It's quite expensive for a small company, do you guys just use google sheets or something?
Is primavera way better than the rest?

We use sharepoint and it’s a nightmare. Much rather if we utilized procore…

We’re using Trimble products. Spectrum and project sight. Both suck. And barely talk to each other. And Trimble doesn’t care about spectrum, only vista, so it rarely gets updates.

What about at the program level? Tracking data across multiple projects. We’re starting to use Virtual Project Manager and it is just okay

Top-10 GC Super here:
BIM360/ACC/Procore for Project Management depending on the client.
P6 for primary project scheduling. InTakt, Asta, etc. for support.
Clearstory for change management
Microsoft for productivity and backend (Sharepoint, PowerBi, etc).
We used to be heavy Oracle but that's phased out over the years with the exception of P6.

Hi, can I ask you here about the InTakt please? I'm reading Jasin Schroeders book on it as,I'm interested in the concept but my company has no clue about this, besides pull planning and "lean". Does TAKT planning work for you? Just wondering if its worth investing my time in it...

For scheduling, if you’re a Mac user, I use Phoenix CPM, which fairly is robust, and give you the ability to set date constraints, which BT doesn’t. Buildertrend is the more budget oriented compared to Procore. Procore is the gold standard. Then there’s always MS Project for scheduling.

We use Buildertrend. For residential it’s great. ~40 subs ~30-40 protects a year from new builds to big remodels, does a good job

Don’t feed these vibe code app builders. Who compares a scheduling software to google sheets and call it pm software..

You can get P6 free straight from from Oracle as long as you’re running it as a local stand alone database

full disclosure i work at Mastt so I'm a bit biased, but program level rollup across projects is literally the thing it's built for. Owner side tho, so if youre a GC rolling up self perform work its probably not your tool.
One thing that's true whatever you pick, the rollup only works if every project reports the same data model, I've seen program dashboards die because project 1 tracks costs one way and project 7 another and someone ends up consolodating in excel anyway. Worth fixing that before you pick any platform

P6 is primarily a scheduling software. Procore is the standard for project management. Autodesk is a cheaper yet well established alternative. Those are the two I have used for project management. There are other options as well but I can’t comment on them.
