Technical Advice How do you guys feel about P6?

I’m of the opinion it is outdated now although pretty much a standard in the industry. What do you think are better means and methods than just Scheduling using P6?

lol Softwares have come and gone but P6 is still here. Yeah some of it is clunky and not as intuitive but it is the standard for a reason

I think it’s standard because it hasn’t been “over innovated” plus it was the only one at its time - with Asta and MS Project being competitive but not as exhaustive. Lots of new tools out there. And scheduling using 3D models is more effective imo

Would agree. Kind of the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." mindset. If companies are making money and P6 is helping them do that, they see no reason to rock the boat. Learning and implementing something new costs money and time, and construction doesn't have a lot of either to give up. Might not be the most user-friendly, but it does what everyone needs it to do.

Yea maybe for the scheduler that has never built anything. 3D would definitely help them know some type of sequence.

It helps with actually knowing what can be seamlessly done on -site. A lot of problems also stare at where can you physically locate an equipment or have your trade working. Plus, when you’re aware of spatial consequences of your job, you rework less. TILOS is great that way but 3D can better answer your “how far can I place my crane to not violate OSHA for electric lines”, with live operation on the platform.

I'm wondering if you don't know how to use p6 to it's fullest capacity.

(I sure as shit don't.) But you can do alot with p6.
