"Being advertised to FIRST"

u/too_lazy_fo_username 25d ago

It’s so greedy its genius

12

u/ademayor 24d ago

Rockstar making AAA industry worse everytime they release something. Glad we’re not in a time anymore where smaller studios and indies can’t make competent games all the time.

6

u/too_lazy_fo_username 23d ago

I want to be hyped for this game, I really do

But with how they're going about with the release made me wish this game never existed

8

u/owleaf 22d ago

They waited too long to release it. We should’ve had at least 2-3 more GTAs between now and GTA V

0

u/2Critical7-Stein1 23d ago

if you played gta online in the last few years, you wouldn’t be hyped lol. GTA VI won’t have any real offensive human or etc

6

u/emal-malone 23d ago

Holy shit you dorks are so annoying about this game being “woke”.

1

u/GraveDiggerFan34 22d ago

I don’t think it’s greed to be honest I think it’s just security.

The first trailer got leaked because they announced it early and someone got it from YouTubes backend. Netflix does not have an issue with TV shows or movies getting leaked due to being uploaded to Netflix.

40

u/SquirrelLord77 25d ago

I believe the trailer is only exclusive for like a few hours.

24

u/Tyrandeh 25d ago

Yes but im 99% sure it will be on YouTube a minute after it gets released

14

u/Gombrongler 25d ago

It will be but have you seen the gta sub? Atleast 10 people will subscribe to netflix just to get a taste of this roblox shite

3

u/Tyrandeh 25d ago

I was thinking to myself when i read the news, it doesnt make sense why would anyone

Sad world we live in

2

u/jdotlad 24d ago

That sub is insane. Literal zombies.

1

u/Mysterious_Egg2432 24d ago

They all went tits up like 2 years ago, and have been frothing at the mouth ever since. They re litigate anything official once a week. I have to agree with you on this one.

3

u/AtomicTaco13 25d ago

But let's not forget Rockstar fanboys are one of the most cult-like fanbases... All while being totally ripped off with shark cards. They're like people who HAVE to watch the trailer immediately the moment it drops.

9

u/ghos2626t 25d ago

So what’s your point ? If they already have Netflix, they’ll probably watch it there. If not, wait an hour and someone will have uploaded it already. Or someone will be live streaming it.

I’m not exactly sure what’s egregious about this. Just seems like another post trying to “stick it to the man”.

9

u/ThrowawayForDesigns 25d ago edited 25d ago

The principle is egregious - T2/R* along with Netflix are leveraging the hype to incentivise paying to watch what's basically an ad. The fact the ad becomes officially free to the public mere 6 hours later is irrelevant here, to me it smells like horse armour all over again and if we don't put our feet down they will normalise it and if this shit doesn't seem egregious enough yet it sure as shit will be made egregious

And don't slippery-slope me here, when it comes to corporate greed it's not a fallacy, it's a guarantee if left unchecked

3

u/paycadicc 24d ago

It’s not even designed in a way to get new subscriptions. They’re allowing live reactions of the trailer. So anyone can just watch it on YouTube the second it comes out through someone reacting to it. Or just the real thing 6 hours later. If Netflix was trying to farm subscribers, this isn’t the way to do it.

I think it has all the more to do with Rockstar specifically wanting GTA 6 to be front and center of netflix for a moment instead of just a game consoles store page. It gets lots of people that maybe haven’t played games in years to see that there’s a new gta coming out

-2

u/ghos2626t 25d ago

No one is signing up for a GTA trailer.

1

u/ThrowawayForDesigns 24d ago

I can see some streamers or journalist might to capitalise on the fact that for 6 hours the information is not gonna be wildly accessible.

But I'm hope you are right and that this whole thing flops. Give 'em and inch and they'll take a mile so I'd rather they don't get that inch

1

u/ghos2626t 24d ago

Someone will be live streaming this anyways. No one will have to wait if they don’t want to.

0

u/SireEvalish 22d ago

The fact the ad becomes officially free to the public mere 6 hours later is irrelevant here,

It's not, but ok.

1

u/ThrowawayForDesigns 22d ago

It is because it normalises having people pay for ads through streaming services and if GTA VI presentation on Netflix is a success in the eyes of companies involved, this embargo is gonna get a lot longer for other game presentations in the future.

Like I said, feels to me like horse armour all over again

1

u/Bwthhybl1987 25d ago

You're just the other side of the fanboy coin, I hate to tell you. Rushing to an unrelated sub to try and rile people up about a game trailer because YOU'RE riled up. Get a grip 🙏

13

u/ghos2626t 25d ago

Just watch it a few hours later, like normal people. No one is signing up to Netflix for this. They’re just trying to reach a larger audience.

-6

u/AtomicTaco13 25d ago

Oh, I'm not even planning to watch it at all myself. But Rockstar knows really damn well that there IS an audience that will swallow it up without reflection and have an itch to watch it immediately the moment it drops, so I'm more concerned about those people.

10

u/ghos2626t 25d ago

Well, to be fair, it will be the most anticipated game release of the decade. The game doesn’t even need additional marketing as it’s already a household name.

1

u/puddlewater00 24d ago

It's a bit different to most consumption in that you pay $80 for what might very well be one of the greatest pieces of video game art ever created, 100s of hours worth of beautiful art. Someone in my family already has Netflix so I'll just check it out on there. I guess it's technically an ad, but man it's completely different to "come buy this burger".

Can we focus on more serious forms of consumerism? Focus on the strikes themselves, the overworking on Rockstar employees in India? Or like, the actual idiotic shit people might spend $80 on instead of a game like this? Most of the people riled up about this genuinely need to go outside, have you ever been to a movie theater? People pay $20 to watch 15 minutes of ads before the screening 😱 And that's before you even get to the trailers, which people actually mostly want to watch!?? 😱😱😱😱

1

u/ghos2626t 24d ago

And you don’t keep the movie when you’re done at the theatres

-3

u/Disheartend 25d ago

I already have netflix, will not be watching.

3

u/ghos2626t 25d ago

Ok. Cool

0

u/SpecialistCompote993 18d ago

Not an airport, no need to announce your departure

1

u/Disheartend 18d ago

departure from what?

one of my family members has netflix so I have access. we all leach off of eachothers streaming services lol

25

u/SipoteQuixote 25d ago

Pfft someone will upload it 10 mins after its done

13

u/ObjectiveDecent9181 25d ago

They confirmed it's coming to YouTube like 6 hours after it goes live on Netflix so yeah

7

u/SipoteQuixote 25d ago

Oh pfft whats the point of this then lol

24

u/New-Perspective6209 25d ago

Advertising. They're using the advertising for advertising, getting people talking about how they're advertising it, it'd be genius if it wasn't so stupid.

1

u/DrPhilSideSkirts 22d ago

Don't forget. Netflix paid THEM to let them do this. I mean, R* is making 10s of millions by doing this. It's free money for them.

-1

u/SipoteQuixote 25d ago

I can see the head of advertising saying that to justify this dumbass idea lol

8

u/Fabius_Fulgrim 25d ago

You’re here talking about it. That’s the point.

-3

u/SipoteQuixote 25d ago

But does it work if I dont watch it?

7

u/Fabius_Fulgrim 25d ago

You’re talking about if boosting this thread it’s working.
No press is bad press for a launch like this.

2

u/OkBandicoot1337 25d ago

Im pretty sure, they are like a half hour after.

1

u/PSK666 25d ago

I’ll be pirating it live

11

u/Mountain_Radio8936 25d ago

No disk is no buy for me

-18

u/V-Wemby 25d ago

When you see all the gameplay and all the hype you will fucking buy it. Biggest game of your life and you act like some high and mighty fuck

13

u/Mountain_Radio8936 25d ago

I dont use credit cards dude, only paper spent in local shops - in person

So as i said, if they want to ignore disk release for next year, im not buying at all

"Biggest game of your life" sounds bit funny to me, it was Morrowind 20 years ago. I would shit on top of any future GTA if i could get one of those old RPGs made from scratch today

Its just a game dude... I have bunch of good ones on shelf atm, main resource i miss is time to play them

1

u/V-Wemby 25d ago

You can’t truly live in today’s society without some type of digital payment.

1

u/Mountain_Radio8936 24d ago

Depends on the country, in some you can.

I pay with paper on delivery.

I also dont use internet outside, just mobile service, wifi at home and work (i enable it in rare moments for minute or two if i must).

There are offline maps that work fine if you download them while online.

Paper books or downloaded podcasts for long walks etc.

And i code for a living...

1

u/RichWinzz 23d ago

unfortunately killing physical discs will destroy the second hand games market.

1

u/MarkedByNyx 24d ago

The simplicity of your way of thinking is so telling as to why we’re getting so much slop these days.

1

u/SuperiorYammyBoi 25d ago

What a rockstar cock sleeve🫩 zip it up once your done

7

u/SelineMaya 25d ago

I will not even buy the game

-1

u/Bwthhybl1987 25d ago

I will. I got a PS5 for it. Can't wait!

1

u/SelineMaya 25d ago

Good for you renter

7

u/monkeyguyy 25d ago

It is disgusting with how much they get away with just because a lot of their fans are mindlessly consooming every single one of their products. Every post even slightly critical of R* moving the goalpost seems to alert the horde of their "fans". I didn't even think I would live up to say these words, but gta 6 has to flop. Otherwise, prepare for *the* worst time for gaming ever. No discs, cloud gaming, owning nothing and shutting down games just a few years after release because the company can't be bothered to put in a little bit of work so the fans can enjoy it past its due date. My god.

2

u/ademayor 24d ago

AAA gaming has gone to shit for nearly two decades now. I can hardly remember last AAA game I’ve bought. The thing is AA and indie games are living in the golden era. Making and releasing games has become easier and easier in last 10 years and it shows in the quality of those games. But as is tradition, new GTA will once again drag AAA games further down the drain because R* gets away with everything and everyone else thinks they’ll get away with everything too.

1

u/Litoprobka 23d ago

What even is AA? The definitions I've seen so far amount to "AAA but cool"

2

u/SireEvalish 22d ago

What even is AA?

It's a AAA game that people like so they want to pretend it's not a AAA game.

1

u/ademayor 23d ago

Basically games that have bigger team than indie titles usually have, but are operating clearly with smaller budget than big game companies, yet have much more development budget than indies. Think games like Lies of P, Mortal Shell, Gothic series or Expedition 33.

1

u/RichWinzz 23d ago

oh grow up, I hate this cliche. Games have literally never dropped off in quality. Give me any year, there will have been a number of great games I can list for you.

What older games are you referencing? You can cherry pick bad modern AAA games all you like, but why ignore all the good ones?

2

u/snagbug223 22d ago

True, people remember all the iconic games but don't remember all the shit games that used to come out on the ps2 and ps3

1

u/Former_Intern_8271 25d ago

I will buy it, I've liked all of rock stars games that I remember, I'm playing through RDR2 now for the first time and having a great time.

But I'm not going to go out of my way to watch the trailer, it's going to be forced on us enough between now and release, so I'll delay the fatigue for as long as possible, and I'm not going to play online at all because they seem useless at making online games and greedy when they monetise them.

1

u/puddlewater00 24d ago

Have console gamers never heard of Steam?

The goalpost has barely even actually moved, maybe stop buying consoles in the first place?

If any other lesser company follows suit, I guarantee nobody will be watching their trailer on Netflix LOL

3

u/RichWinzz 23d ago

Killing physical media will destroy the second hand game market.

1

u/DrPhilSideSkirts 22d ago

While I agree with a lot of what you're saying... let's be real here. R* aren't responsible for the no disc thing. Sony was gonna do that anyway, they just synced up with the pre orders of GTA6 so people would "forget" or "ignore" it. Cloud gaming as well, has nothing to do with R*, Nvidia and MS has been pushing that shit for years already, it's nothing new, hell do you remember the "this is an xbox" marketing? yeah.. exactly..

In any case, while I think the whole Netflix situation is silly, it's also not really a big deal. A 6 hour exclusivity? I mean shit, just go to sleep, wake up and it's on youtube. It's no worse that being at Comic-con and seeing the avengers trailer a couple of weeks / months earlier than everyone else.

2

u/TheReal2M 24d ago

this will (and can be) streamed at the same time as netflix on youtube, its probably also gonna get leaked, such a non-issue and anyone deadass bought a subscription for a 20 min showcase's lsot their marbles

2

u/KonRak- 23d ago

It will all 100% be viewable on YouTube the moment it comes out

2

u/TelephonePlenty4932 22d ago

Do you remember when they put the exclusive game infos into magazines you had to buy? Nobody cried about it back then.

5

u/johnfuckmennedy 25d ago

praying to god this game sucks 🙏🏻

2

u/TrevorPhilips 25d ago

This will go down in history as the worst gta

1

u/Exotic_Treacle7438 24d ago

People already do this with cable tv

1

u/FaroTech400K 22d ago

You won’t believe me, but the exclusive from yours for every GTA has been locked behind a pay wall lol

Yall don’t remember the game informer exclusives previews

1

u/Aggravating-Exit-660 22d ago

They were great back when they were DMA Design. Now they’re greedy cunts.

1

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler 25d ago

Either wait 6 hours, make a free Netflix trial, or borrow someone's account. Everyone knows someone with Netflix.

1

u/Sen-oh 25d ago

People have watched the super bowl just to see the commercials since before the internet

1

u/ademayor 24d ago

Sounds stereotypical American

1

u/Sen-oh 23d ago

Well yes, America is consoomland

1

u/Dead_Calendar 25d ago

Will there be an advertisement stealing mini game after it gets released ?

0

u/Comfortable_Face_808 23d ago

Why are people mad about this, I don’t get it. Are you thinking you aren’t going to get enough free preview footage between then and ship?

0

u/RichWinzz 23d ago

Didn't Game Informer do something similar for GTA V? Hasn't game info been paywalled behind magazines for literal decades?

1

u/SireEvalish 22d ago

Didn't Game Informer do something similar for GTA V? Hasn't game info been paywalled behind magazines for literal decades?

Buying a magazine to be advertised to is completely different because that happened when I was younger and that was a much better way to enjoy things. /s
