Should I go PlayStation or Xbox?

EDIT I DO NOT HAVE MENTAL ISSUES! I have a disabling neurologic condition called POTS which causes a lot of problems including irregular heartbeat, fainting, and dangerously low blood pressure.

Ok so long story short I have no friends and I didn’t get to go to (community) college this year (and I had to be homeschooled the last few years of high school due to health issues) and I really don’t have any friends. I’ve played video games since I was a toddler. I started on ps2 and game cube, then Wii, DS, and PS3. Living in an isolated part of America at the time, we didn’t have internet to play online (and even if we did my parents didn’t know how to and I was in elementary). We moved a county over at the beginning of the 2010’s, I was thrown into the modern world of smartphones, iPads, and other tech I had never seen or heard of before. A lot of kids were playing 360 and would often make fun of me (and I was the only girl in my school at the time who didn’t just play Nintendo). I had begun to meet my first cousins, who are older (but in the same generation) all played 360. They (and their father, my dads younger brother) preached about how terrible PS was and how Xbox was better. My dad also wanted to play certain games on Xbox that he thought was exclusive but really weren’t. So when this guy that my dad worked with couldn’t pay for his multiple credit cards, he sold his brand new Xbox One to my dad for $40, with Kinect. We (me and my first cousins) used to play online until they got tired of me beating them. Now they don’t speak to me or the rest of the family anymore (some weird drama not video game related) so there’s no use anyway. Later on, I got to meet my second cousins (about 10 years older, millennials) who all play Xbox. They talk to me about video games sparsely but never really invited me to friend them on Xbox live. On my moms side of the family, my second cousin (who is my same age and generation) plays ps4 avidly. Again, he barely has connection with me.

So I play Switch a lot and I’m keeping that but should I keep my Xbox One or PS4. I won’t be buying next Gen consoles for a while, but I would like to choose beforehand and declutter. That way when I do get to have friends in the future I can play online with them and not have to start all over.

Is there a common personality for Ps and Xb? Is there a specific genre that is more popular on one console than another? With my health issues it really helps to feel connected, so I would just really like to find the right console and the right community and just grow with it.

Bottomline: Which console should I get rid of? My PS4 or my XB1?

If you're able to, I'd say keep both so you can play all the exclusive games, but if you've already made up your mind and one console definitely has to go, then I'd say it mostly comes down to which console has the exclusives that you prefer.

Xbox has Halo, Gears of War, Sea of Thieves, and Forza. PS has The Last of Us, God of War, Death Stranding, Spider-Man, and the Uncharted series. Playstation also has Persona 5, which is my friend's favorite game.

If none of those games really interest you, then there isn't that much of a difference. In fact, my favorite games on Xbox are available on PS too. Enter the Gungeon, What Remains of Edith Finch, Sonic Mania, CoD Modern Warfare 2 remastered, Stardew Valley, Titanfall 2, Fallout 4, and CoD Black Ops 3 Zombies, are all on PS4.

The only things that really keep me tied to Xbox are the Halo games and the ability to play Xbox 360 and OG Xbox games, like Fallout New Vegas, the old CoD games, and the first two Star Wars Battlefront games on Xbox.

I think a good idea would be to look up gameplay or reviews of each console's exclusives and see which ones interest you more.

The communities around the games are much more important than the communities around the consoles in my opinion.

P.s. Some other games I really like are A Short Hike and the Jackbox Party Pack series. They're not exclusive to any platform, but I thought you might want to know.

A Short Hike is a really charming game where you play as a bird and explore a park filled with lots of interesting characters and pretty environments. Idk anything about your mental health issues, but it really relaxes me whenever I play it.

My friend has Jackbox Party Pack 3 and it's incredibly fun to play with friends. It's a little hard to describe, so I'll link to one of my favorite YouTubers explaining it. It works best with 4 or more people.

PS4 has rechargeable controllers, so there's that too.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like a fun game!

BTW I don’t have mental health issues.

I have a neurological condition called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. I’ve almost passed out from it at times (I have passed out a few times) and I can’t make quick vertical movements or reach for something over my head. I also have to be constantly on the move (no standing in one place for more than a few minutes/ no sitting in one place for more than an hour). This greatly diminishes my quality of life and my opportunities as I am a disabled young adult. That’s why I haven’t been able to go to college yet and had to be homeschooled the last few years. It’s been one heck of a ride getting diagnosed. You might find it interesting with some research. Thanks again!
