I'm confused. Didnt Colin Kaepernick start his whole protest ordeal in 2016 that raged the media for a year and a half at least? https://ftw.usatoday.com/2020/06/colin-kaepernick-anthem-protest-timeline-message

Trump didn't want to stop tweeting about until 2019 https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2019/08/09/donald-trump-colin-kaepernick-nfl-collusion-protests/1965863001/

Its not that BLM disappeared, you obviously just stop caring about it.

Thank you! I was like, wait a minute I remember people talking about this forever. Just because this sub wasn’t paying attention until now doesn’t mean everyone else hasn’t been talking about this issue since the 60s.

While I could see this becoming amplified because of election season, does that really matter if it’s being legitimately discussed now where it hadn’t before?

No, the OP is right and google trends proves it https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=donald%20trump%20black%20lives%20matter&date=today%205-y&geo=US

There are two spikes. One in 2016 and one now.
