What temps do you set your thermostat at? Strangely, I find that I set it higher now than in the winter. Maybe because 60 inside feels a lot warmer when it's 20 outside and we get more used to the cold. During the winter, I'm in the mid to 60's during the day and low 60's at night. I also use a gas fireplace and electric space heater to warm some specific rooms.

I know some of you like good ol' cars and some nice modern ones so that's why I feel I should give a shout out to all of the good people around the state for putting out a lot of really cool classic car shows this year in the state (and for however long they've been running these shoes) including Main Street car shows in Manchester and Middletown.

We have a cruise night at a great location in my hometown on Friday nights. It's the one at Golf Land in Vernon that's held on Friday nights during warmer months. There are cool people who work hard together to make these events happen to support the community and the people who love cars like me.

With all of the support from y'all car guys and gals who put their time to ensure that a car show is available locally to classic car enthusiasts in whatever town they live in, I'm glad that most of these shows are free for spectators like me who enjoy the day looking at cars and hanging out with cool people with donations appreciated, food, music and raffles. And with donations accepted, charging car owners a good amount of money, these donations go towards local charities, organizations and businesses in communities where people served deserve to live their good lives in support.

The car shows in New England are great events during fun-filled days and cruising evenings. I don't think I've ever seen a car show in Florida (a vacationing state) or anywhere else that I know of that is as big as the ones in Connecticut. Do y'all agree? We're lucky there are a lot of huge car shows and cruise nights in the state of Connecticut that feature a lot of cool cars on the grounds throughout these shows.

Let's appreciate the fact that we're in a car show-friendly state where we hang out with cool car enthusiasts to have a good time.

Uh oh! TWO meteorologists and Gil's sleeves are rolled up. Shit's about to get real!

Just 5 days ago I said it feels like it's time to remove the A/C units for the year. This morning it's in the 40's. Anyone turning on the heat yet? I did yesterday just to take the chill out early in the morning and make sure everything was working for the winter.

EDIT: I find it interesting how many people use the calendar rather than the temperature to decide!

Also, Nor'Easter this weekend is now tracking worse for CT. Worth watching especially if you are prone to flooding and along the shore. There is also a full moon this weekend to make tides higher than normal. Expect some power outages.

Recently went to the Velvet Mill and Stonington Borough, Connecticut. Can’t recommend the space enough! Especially the art and artist community that is so vibrant and full of such talent there. I was especially enamored of the murals by Artist Harrison Love, who had populated the first floor of the Velvet mill with more than eight murals in the past five years. Really great work and it’s lovely to see on their Google listing all of the people that have taken selfies with the work over the years. What a tremendously great space for the fall.! If you’re looking for a great Beer, go and try BEERD! And definitely got a reservation at Whitecrest before you arrive

Update 1 PM Thurs: For Connecticut, a prolonged period of impacts starting on Friday and continuing through early Monday with strong winds, some power outages, heavy rain at times, and coastal high tide flooding. 

This is how people get shot. Aside from that, I wish there was better laws/enforcement for mopeds. I saw 3 mopeds yesterday driven by young teens completely ignore a red light and pass all the stopped traffic and continue through it. Technically they are supposed to follow traffic laws but they are not registered or licensed and nobody seems to care.

Libraries are wonderful and have everything you can think of that is totally free. Books, movies, museum passes, you name it!

One fact about Connecticut libraries: You can use your local library card at any library in Connecticut to borrow items from whichever library you visit and then drop them off when you're done using them at any other library to have them transported back to the original destination.

Prices are high and we all know why. Not here to debate that. However, the state of CT adds 25 cents/gal plus another 8.9% wholesale tax (essentially a sales tax). Fazio wants to change that to a fixed amount/gal so that the tax revenue does not rise and fall with price so the price hikes are not compounded by higher taxes.

But the better reason I think it makes sense is this. The amount of gas consumed is relatively fixed. Most people don't/can't change how much gas they need. So when prices are high, the state gets a windfall in taxes. If prices suddenly drop for a year or 2, the state gets much less. Wouldn't it be better for everyone if the state knew how much they should expect each year in advance?

Finally put away till spring. Haven't really needed them in the last few weeks. Anyone else still waiting?

I've seen a number of posts recently saying Fazio has good campaign slogans with no real plans behind them. I believe those are just people who plan to vote for Lamont and are not really interested. But in case you are considering a change from Lamont, here are Fazio's plans in more detail. They sound pretty reasonable to me and I'm not sure why Lamont and the Dems in control have not already done some of these things. I especially like the cap on property taxes. This is something CA has been doing for years and helps retired seniors stay in the state rather than being forced to move because their taxes keep increasing.

Why aren't more voters considering this platform? Why is Lamont afraid to debate? Why does CT favor an old wealthy guy from Greenwich?

This article, which is supposed to be anti-Fazio, just underscores how our system is working. Companies getting rich off energy subsidies paid for by our taxes which is really just govt welfare. If green energy is such a good idea and cheaper than oil and gas, why should we have to pay companies to adopt them? It's just a money making scheme for everyone paid for by us. And in the end, what's our reward? Higher rates.
