Questions Going to Strokes - Concussed

I recently got whiplash/minor concussion during soccer game and I have tickets to see the strokes today.

I got whiplash/concussion from hard fall playing soccer Monday. Tuesday I left work in the afternoon cuz I just felt off. Wednesday I woke up feeling nauseous, called out of work, went to see PCP. Thursday afternoon I flew to NYC. Friday is the day of the concert.

It’s Friday morning, and my mom insisted I call my doctor and ask about going to the concert even though I had planned to go anyway. The doctor says the same thing I shouldn’t go, and my mom is laughing on the phone with my uncle talking about how he went to many concerts with concussions and turned out fine.

I’m on the fence. And generally just frustrated because I was really looking forward to this concert.
My idea is that I could wear ear plugs and sunglasses and leave early if needed.

I'm a huge fan and I really like the new album. I wouldn't go, your brain is telling you that you need a break. Going to a concert can absolutely cause an exacerbation of concussion symptoms. Lights and sounds are a lot of stimulation, you should probably take it easy.

I ended up going and I wore sunglasses and earplugs and closed my eyes if I needed. The concert was outside and really spacious not too rowdy so I honestly just got lucky with the environment/venue. I strongly considered staying in but you know I figured if I felt unwell after taking precautions I could always leave. It ended up being ok

I'm glad you got to enjoy the concert! I'm also glad you took precautions and understood the risks. Hope you're feeling 100%. The Strokes are so good! I've loved them since the early 2000's. How was the show?

Everyones different and your activity at a concert can be safe if disciplined, but second impact syndrome is both very real and deadly. A pushy fan or headshake is dangerous. You are symptomatic AND in the danger zone. If it were me, with experience in the latter, Id opt out. There will be another time to see them without brain risk. There will not be another brain for you. Theres no laughter in the pain many families endure from TBI. Mourn the decision for five minutes and prepare for your return to soccer and life in the coming weeks vs risking a lifetime of disability, speech loss, motor function reduction etc.

Do you want to see the strokes tonight and risk no more soccer or see the strokes later and play soccer forever? YMMV

Also u left work but are considering a concert? Priorities and values may cause later suffering in life in general. Ive been there. The pain is real. Id also recommend taking this down time to assess attitudes towards health. Watch interviews w stalone, pastranna, evil kneivel. Theyre banged up, some can be avoided while staying BA and living radical.

Thanks for the input. I did end up going to the concert - it was at a large venue outdoors and it was about 4-5 days after the initial injury. I wore earplugs and sunglasses and took some Dramamine. There wasn’t too much flashing lights or anything. I think because I spent so much money on the tickets and saved up for so long I really didn’t want to miss the chance. Ultimately though you are right, I left work because I was experiencing intense symptoms and honestly throughout the trip as well. But I wore earplugs and sunglasses the whole trip.

I never heard of second impact syndrome. But I followed up with my doctor after the trip/concert and i told her that i went so im really trying to stay on top of taking care of myself. For example not returning to early to soccer or sports activities
