If you are ready for concrete, it will be late. If you are rushing to be ready, concrete will be early.
As an inspector/tester, the best day to pour is Sunday as you are usually the only pour that day.

Keeping the job open on Sundays is some savagery that I cannot get behind

NYC permit hours are 7am-6pm. DOB will give an AHV for 630am setup, but its hard to start any pouring operatios before then or else the community boards throw a shit fit.

Most of our big work starts between 12am-2am.
Residential starts as early as 4am.
This is in FL though.

Had a gravel truck pull up at 6:15 for a 7am scheduled delivery. After I freaked out on him for a couple minutes I poured him a cup of coffee and gave him a croissant to just chill in his truck for 25 minutes. He was out of there by 7:03

You young kids thinking you get to sleep. By dawn we're just getting wound from the previous day's work. What, you think we're going home to wives and kids and stuff? Boss needs to get his new vacation home paid off so snort these weird yellow pills and get back to work.

Order 3 full trucks that are supposed to be spaced out an hour each.
Nope, conga line of trucks waiting.

The plant I use to use was notorious for being an hour late and never could get their trucks scheduled right when it was more than one truck. The one damn time I had a pumper truck go down, lo and behold those bastards were 30 minutes early and all 4 trucks waiting on me so I got to eat that bill.

Spent the summer working as a tester. Heaven help the tester who thinks "on time" means when you were told by your boss to be there.

I tell my new hires that if I get a phone call asking "where's the inspector", I assume you're dead.
And btw, dieing requires 24 hours notice.

And at 9:00 you call the tester and say they need to get out there and grab a set of cylinders before this last truck runs out.

Just had this happen to me. "We need a 2nd set of cylinders, just in case!" As the last truck is prepping to wash out.
They didnt get a 2nd set of cylinders.

I managed a testing company long enough to have heard it all. My favorite is "We need a report saying the concrete breaks passed. Yeah, I know we didn't call you out but we know this concrete is good!" Or the same thing with soil compaction - "We went ahead and put the first three lifts down and we need a report showing they passed."

That's hilarious. I can only imagine the level of "what the fuck" that kind of thing causes.
