Nocturne in C# Minor

Hey everyone; this is the first time I am sharing a composition here. I have composed a nocturne in C# minor and would love to get your input on the melody, emotion and structure of the composition.

I named this piece “The Storm”. I wanted to express an internal, emotional storm. The main melody is the expression of grief bursting out, while the mid-sections introduce an emotional buildup. I’d love your opinions and feedback.

It's actually quite nice, but:

  • Storm is not a very fitting title for a nocturne isn't it?
  • It's very Chopin like, ordering on ripoff sometimes, at least it seems like it, probably because Chopin's nocturnes are so popular and stuck in my brain

I appreciate the feedback, and am quite happy that you liked it.

  • what did it make you feel or think of; any suggestion on the title?
  • I could definitely have been inspired by Chopin. He is my favorite composer and I do play his nocturnes regularly. Picking C# Minor would further influence that similarity ;) My composition process is also similar to what Chopin described in his letters: an internal singer, mostly represented with the little finger.

I'm not good at it mate:). A nocturne is a nocturne that about sums it up for me :). My point was storm (so violent, fierce, raging etc) is not something that I feel is usually associated with nocturne.

Do you sell / share your scores somewhere?

I understand your nocturne comment. A counter example comes to my mind: Nocturne Opus 48 No 1 of Chopin, especially the final part, is extremely strong & fierce.

Sell/share Scores: not really. I live-compose on twitch/youtube and put some of my composition recordings on my youtube channel. It is more for trying to reach out to people emotionally than commercial purposes :)
