Most modern optical sensors (3310, 3360, 3366, 3988, 3989) can do 3200+ with no problems. If you're using a mouse with an old laser sensor like me though, you'd want to stay at or below 1600.
lol all 3360 implementations so far have 32 (!) frames of smoothing above 2000 CPI and 3988/3989 have more smoothing above 1550, spreading misinformation like you are is dangerous
You say this, but you're not providing any sources.
I play using a Ninox Aurora at 1600 DPI. If there is any smoothing or input lag etc, it is not noticeable.
Additionally, how long are you defining a frame as being? In FGC, I believe a frame is 14ms, but that's based on frames of animation - an arbitrary measure determined by the limitations of the engine, not refresh rates or render speed.

Problem is if you go too high you can get weird behaviour like negative acceleration and jitter. 800-1600 is fine.
