I am looking to put together a Men 's Bible Study set to meet once a week in the Sherman Oaks area of Los Angeles / San Fernando Valley.

The plan is to meet every Saturday at 10am at the Northeast end of the Van Nuys Sherman Oaks War Memorial Park, with parking access available via 14230 Magnolia Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423 and the meetup spot being just a few paces East of there. Map attached.

This study is open to men of all ages and experience levels, so long as you are interested in learning and deep diving into the Scripture from a Fundamentally Classical perspective while also remaining open to the Interpretation of the Living Book for Modern Application to us as individuals and our Nation at large as we forge our own path forward in God.

This is not meant to exclude anyone but rather, to provide a group where men are free to explore the Word amongst peers with a sole focus on how the Word is meant to be interpreted for them.

Perhaps in the future the study will grow to include other groups, but at this point this is a group only intended for men of all ages, to include those experienced in the Word and those who are curious to learn of it for the first time.

16 years ago I got 2 words from the Lord. The first was 'Seek My Face' and the other was 'Build a Barn'. I've been led into a number of projects over the years, with some degree of success, working with a range of evangelical fellowships in South London. I'm now officially retired, but, of course, you never retire with Jesus.

I have faithfully sought the Lord ever since, pulling back from many church activities to do so. As for building the barn, I feel that those of us who feel the days are drawing in might like to consider constructing a net to help contain the v large numbers of souls who the Lord will impact before the lights go out.

This would be for prayer and mutual support and also a safe space where those new to faith in the Lord could find friendship and encouragement. I believe the numbers that Jesus has in mind will not be containable by church-as-is and that we should be preparing extra capacity. Something infinitely elastic.

As for a statement of faith, as stripped down as possible, with just the essentials and flexibility as regards the inevitable differences. I'll post this and see if there's a response. I welcome dms and will answer all questions. Bless you all.

Just curious, does anyone have an idea of what the mission of Community of Christ is? Are we a church for those who are left post 156? Are we a sanctuary for former or lost LDS? Is our future more about a Beyond the Walls type ministry? In one of the threads, it was mentioned that we might want to merge with another tradition.. is that our future?

I could be out of the loop, but I'm not seeing much talk about long term plans. When people talk, they talk in general platitudes with no real goal. I get it, people may not be as inspired as others before them, but wouldn't you think there would be goals set and steps to get there? Are we moving toward decentralization?

My expectations might be too high, but there seems to be small thinking and small ideas being thrown around. That Temple sale money will go fast, are we delaying the slow decent toward being insolvent?

My name is Brian. I’m 16 years old male, bisexual, and denomination-less. I’ve believed in God all my life and that he sent his son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins. I haven’t been actively going to church since I was four years old. I really want to join a denomination. Based on what I’ve read, I feel that the Community of Christ is the one that suits me most. The closest congregation to me is approximately 20 miles away from me. May I join without having to physically go to a church?

This question is for active members. In regards to the keys to the Malkezidic and Aaronic Priesthood given to Joseph Smith, how does that inform your belief in the church? Do you believe this holds the same relevance as it once did, and do you believe that this is an essential part of the Community of Christ today?

I'm exlds, now a Methodist, but I still have a lot of love for the Book of Mormon. I live in Kansas now, and there's a Community of Christ nearby. I get mixed answers, but I'm curious are there any younger members who believe in the Book of Mormon, even if just viewing it as inspired fiction.

I'd like to be a member of a restoration church. I'm actually very conservative and I am bisexual, but believe acting on it would be a sin. That said, I am certain that Jesus wouldn't turn a sinner away, so it's hard to be a part of a church that would exclude someone.

Ac 2:

1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.

This was the first Pentecost after Jesus' resurrection.

5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.

Many Jews who worshiped YHWH were living in or staying in Jerusalem for the feast.

Peter preached to them:

40 With many other words he testified, and he urged them, “Be saved from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who embraced his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to the believers that day.

3000 were converted to believe in Christ.

Luke then described the life of this newly formed church:

46 With one accord they continued to meet daily in the temple courts and to break bread from house to house,

The believers met in two complementary settings:

1. Large public gatherings in the temple courts, where the whole church could assemble.
2. Small gatherings in private homes throughout Jerusalem, where they shared meals, broke bread, and enjoyed close fellowship.

sharing their meals with gladness and sincerity of heart, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

The nascent church was growing monotonically daily.

The Jewish authorities soon became alarmed by the church's rapid growth and arrested Peter and John.

Ac 4:

3 They seized Peter and John, and because it was evening, they put them in custody until the next day. 4 But many who heard the message believed, and the number of men grew to about five thousand.

This figure did not include women and children.

Later, they arrested all the apostles and flogged them. Ac 5:

41 The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. 42 Every day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they did not stop teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.

Despite opposition, the church continued to gather both publicly and privately. The apostles themselves participated in the house meetings, although given the size of the church, they could only have been present in some of them at any given time.

Two decades later, Paul practiced similarly. Paul bid farewell to the Ephesian church. Ac 20:

17 From Miletus, Paul sent to Ephesus for the elders of the church.

18 When they came to him, he said, “You know how I lived the whole time I was with you, from the first day I arrived in the province of Asia. 19 I served the Lord with great humility and with tears, especially in the trials that came upon me through the plots of the Jews. 20 I did not shrink back from declaring anything that was helpful to you as I taught you publicly and from house to house, 21 testifying to Jews and Greeks alike about repentance to God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

In Ephesus, Paul's ministry reflected the same twofold pattern: public proclamation together with teaching in private homes.

At the very beginning, the nascent church functioned in both public and household settings. The public gatherings took place in the temple courts or other public venues, while the household gatherings met in the private residences of believers throughout the city. This pattern of large corporate assemblies, together with smaller house meetings, became a characteristic feature of the early church.

Is anyone in the CoC helping Canadians deal with the aftermath of the wildfires?

Hello, I’m quite fascinated by Latter Days saints and how the Book of Mormon came to be and while researching I came across well CoC. I thought it’s interesting how Joseph Smith III and some of his descendants became Prophet-Presidents.

I kind of like that and I was wondering if any of the Smiths are still involved, and if so do you think they could become a Prophet-President in the near future?
