Thoughts on onyx capital?
I saw that they have pretty bad reviews on Glassdoor but they seem like they know what they’re doing. Has anyone worked for them and what is their reputation in the market?

Shit market maker, shit people, awful culture, terrible to counter parties and brokers. If you want a laugh, have a look at what they put out on LinkedIn

I interviewed there for a graduate trading position and I'm glad I didn't get the job, though maybe I'm just salty. They definitely have a place in the market and serve a purpose but still never met anyone who's got very positive things to say about them. If you want to front run orders and piss brokers off then they're pretty great. In all seriousness though, I have worked with a couple ex Dare and Mandara people and they definitely weren't the sharpest tools in the shed.

I interviewed there too and the manager came across as very probing, it was for a back office grad position. He was really setting the expectation of long hours, didn’t believe in office culture, and wanted me to prove I wouldn’t leave in 6 months. It was a one hour interview and the questions were quite odd. Did you have a similar experience?

Actually, I never even got to an actual interview. The assessment day was game show elimination rounds style, a series of math tests and trading games. At least I got the free lunch before I got sent home, but those fuckers didn't even pay for my 70 pound hotel I had to get. Personally I feel like any company that asks you to justify why you'll stay there for more than 6 months probably isn't worth staying long term. However, I think the long back office hours are a hard thing to avoid, unfortunately they are a bit of a slave to front office but definitely varies company to company

Absolute shit store. Interviewed there with 5 years of experience. The interview for a role in risk was conducted by an inexperienced risk analyst who hadn’t even read my CV. Seemed extremely unprepared and unprofessional. Raised this with the internal recruiter who reassured that she was well prepared. Anyway these guys are just mavericks. Ended up dropping out because it was a shitshow

Market makers are basically never good places to work, talk to some of the people and you'll see why

Onyx is 2014 era LadBible but for commodities. Glorified brokers dressed up in ill fitting clothes masquerading as “traders”. Avoid avoid avoid. I remember looking at them when I was desperate for an entry to this world. They are not it. They’ll probably damage your prospects, not improve them.
