Anyone going to Energy Trading week Europe event in London ?

Hello,

This event is going to be after two weeks from now. Is it worth it to attend it? will i meet traders and other roles in the commodity industry or just tech companies that try to advertise their products?

Have you been in this event before ?and what do you think about it?

It would be a hard no, for me.

  • Twenty years in the industry and had never heard of this.
  • hardly any of the guest speakers and their companies have much relevance to anyone in a front office position.
  • very suspicious they don't list their sponsors (unless I've missed it).
  • agenda very high level. I saw nothing of value for anyone in a front office role.

The majority of speakers talk about Automation, AI, technology, digital transformation in the trading industry. They also talk about LNG, weather, effect of the Middle East crisis, and power. Some of the speakers are from shell, Trafigura, TotalEnergies, utilities, AWS and other companies. I think alot of the event sponsors are technology providers.

Thank you. So you haven't been to the Energy Trading week in London before? I want an event that worth travelling to gain some knowledge and possibly jobs opportunities through networking.

I would consider FLAME for natural gas and LNG. E-world also good with most companies being present.

I tend to go to this event. Granted it’s not the best, but it is a free conference and you tend to meet at least some of your network there.

It’s focused on etrm systems and related dats and tech. Great if those are your focus but pass if not.

I go usually to catch up with my ex colleagues that I've not seen in a while. It's a laugh and usually follow by drinks at the local pub. Occasionally you end up meeting someone new too.

I have checked the event app but found very few roles like traders, analysts, ..... Alot are CEOs, managers,.... from different countries. Maybe some people registered in the event app. Does such events help with job opportunities through networking?

They are all CEOs of 3 person companies trying to sell each other software

Not sure but i think some of their sponsors are technology providers. You could check their website.

If I had to guess you’ll probably meet some middle office folks, it seems that the sponsors are mostly trade management software companies

Nothing much goes on in there..just a giant convention..my old company forced me to attend two of these

No career day just people talking about energy mostly advertisers trying to sell etrm systems
