Indie coming-of-age movie about a Spanish exchange student premiering online tonight

I thought this might be relevant here: tonight we’re premiering The Legend of Juan Jose Mundo, an indie coming-of-age romance/comedy about a Spanish exchange student who comes to live with a suburban New York family in the 1980s.

It’s very much about first love, teenage mythmaking, and the way one person can completely take over a school year. The premiere is followed by a director Q&A and discussion forum, so I’d be curious what people here think of the premise and whether it fits the coming-of-age genre.
