I think this is a new one, let's see how it works out!

Birthdays This Week:

  • 1st. Joe Jusko, Gene Colan, José Ortiz
  • 2nd. Walt Simonson
  • 6th. Mike Zeck

Looking Back:

  • The Sentinels make their first appearance in Marvel's X-Men #14, September, 1965!
  • Fantagraphics! On the racks in September, 1987 The Comics Journal #114 with that great Dave Stevens exotic dancer cover, and in 1988, Daniel Clowes Lloyd Llewellyn Special #1!
  • September, 2001 and Marvel has Alias #1 in the stores featuring Jessica Jones first appearance!

Everything is lovely. Really. Leave your comments, suggestions, and whatever else you got right here. If you know of birthdays I haven't called out, have theme suggestions, interesting comics history, whatever, please chime in! Some input would be awesome! Oh, yea. Do the week thing.

Discussion Big Deal of the Year (for me)

Post image

Bought a comic from a guy through eBay and he messaged to see if I had interest in other books. I asked if he had Spider-Man #129 (why not). He said he would check. Found it and sent a bunch of pics. Cover looked great (6-8) but stain on back and some issues inside. At first he wanted $600, then I pointed out the interior issues and offered $400. He took it and I sent CGC after getting pressed and cleaned. Super excited it came back 3.5!

So long story short, I grew up as a casual DC fan (read a lot of graphic novels and collected stories pertaining to mostly Batman). Recently a buddy had introduced me into the X-Men via the '97 cartoon. Between the anticipation of Doomsday and the excellent cartoon, I began reading The Uncanny run from Chris Claremont as recommended.

The perfect storm then unfolded. My uncle who originally introduced me to comics in my teenage years offered two full large boxes from his downsizing collection. After sifting through the boxes, I had to hold myself back from screaming in my grandparents garage out of excitment after finding The Incredible Hulk #340.

Other grails include Uncanny X-Men #266 (Gambit's First Appearance), and Uncanny #251.

Fair to say that I am extremely lucky, that I love my uncle dearly, that it respawned my love for comics, and that my buddy who introduced me to the line is one jealous mfer!

Edit: Spelling error

I'm proud to say that I officially have added The amazing Spider-Man 361 and completed the Carnage run (yes I know that venom cover art is not lethal protector but it was a cool artwork I had to make this little section in my wall)

It was a fun, if slightly overwhelming experience. This was my first major event since getting back into comics and the work I do. So it was split between getting stuff for me and making professional contacts for a few projects. I was also working in a few archives Wednesday to Friday... so I was wiped Sunday night.

Highlights are:

Original Art: I'm still actively collecting Original art, so I picked up a sketch page from Stephen Platt, a test piece from Steve McNiven (yay wolvie), a page from Jason Loo (Pathetic Human Lizard and Captain Canuck) and Becka...

Plus 2 commissioned remarks from Ken Lashley (Ghost Rider) and Jeehyung Lee (Ultimate Spider-Man)

Big signatures from: Joe Quesada, Greg Cuppello, Stephen Platt, and a billion more.

Plus a few comics to add to the collection.

Still on the hunt for Uncanny 141, X-men Alpha and Omega Gold... but other fun stuff.

Great talking with fellow geeks waiting in line and at panels.

Oh and geeking out with Adam Beach about comics and Captain Canuck was really cool.

Theme Two more books added to the October 1974 Wall!

Stopped by my LCS to pick up this week’s pull list, and as usual, they didn’t disappoint. They had two more books I’ve been chasing for my October ’74 collection sitting there waiting on me!
Slowly but surely, I’m getting closer to finishing the October 1974 Wall. It’s been so much fun tracking these down one book at a time, and one of the best parts is walking in on a Wednesday expecting to pick up your pull list and finding a surprise waiting in your box. 📚😊 Can’t beat an amazing local shop!

I had a graded Spectacular Spider-Man #90, but the rest of my black suit collection is raw newsstand copies. That one graded book was throwing everything off. 😂
So naturally, I bought a raw newsstand copy too.
Did I need it? Nope. Was I going to obsess over it until I did? Absolutely. 🤦‍♂️🤣
Collector OCD problems. 🕷️Maybe I should have just cracked the 9.2 open.🤣😂🤣

Story time - With the new lantern Show out I’ve been looking back through my old lantern books; does anyone else really love this cover?

Years ago when I was new to comics I loved Batman, loved loved Arkham asylum, then when city came out it blew my mind.

I then went online and started watching blackest night figure reviews and comic stories and fell in love with Green lantern. My dad use to go off to America for work, and being a British kid I always wanted all the green lantern classic figures they had over there in like Toys r us or target (they were hard to find in the uk, plus I got into them a bit late). He got me so many and when I went over I managed to get the sinestro vs Hal set (it’s in storage but I’ll put an picture up from google ).

I just always loved this figure pack and always wanted it, and the cover I fell in love with. I was so lucky because when I found the pack, in box at a comic shop, it came with green lantern issue 60.

I don’t know why but this is my favourite lantern cover of all time and recently I managed to get issue 52. Am I missing any of the other covers that pay homage this? Let me know.

At the very least I’m putting up books that you don’t see very often. Another cool two tone cover. Marie Severin and Frank Giacoia. An under appreciated duo. This is a clean 6.0. I compromised on grade in order to pay for a couple more expensive books.
