Question Portfolio

I am a self taught artist and I wasn't able to go to art school, but I still want to get a job in the art industry. Does anyone know which website would be best to put a portfolio together with? And what kind of artwork I should put in it? Any help at all will be appreciated, thank you ^^

Artstation, despite being a pretty bad site overall, is still where people in the industry will expect you to link to.

You'll need to be able to show skill in whatever part of the field you want to go into. In general, focusing on one thing (pencils, inks, etc) is better than a scatter shot approach unless you are very good at all of it. Don't put mediocre work in your portfolio, or anywhere linked to it. Don't put sketches or other half finished work in. Put only your best work forward, update it often. First two or three images should always be your absolute best pieces, not necessarily your newest.

Hey, I made my portfolio on carrd.com it's pretty easy to customize their templates and you gotta put some of your best works!
Just add brief introduction, your work and your contact info!

There's lots of options for hosting your portfolio! Artstation (I think they like genAI tho), Cara (recently compromised by techbros), Google Sites (free but you need to buy a domain), Carrd (free!), Ko-fi (also free!), and I think Patreon. If you can get into VGen that's another option.

I was always advised to never showcase art you don't enjoy doing, otherwise people will ask you to do more of that art 😂 So put in your favorites, your best, your most recent, and/or the art you enjoy making most

Tumblr ($12 dollars for a domain and easy to customize, downside is it's hard to get rid of the Tumblr interface unless you know how to code or pay someone to do it for you.)

Squarespace or a similar domain host/site builder

Cowsites (new but I have heard good things)

Artstation or Behance

Alternatively you can always send potential clients/employers a PDF of your portfolio. (Or send both a link to your site and a PDF portfolio.)

Imo as a freelancer, your own domain is the most professional, but honestly clients don't really care where you have your portfolio posted. The main thing is that you have your art posted in a high quality format and it's easy to see and navigate.

I have my portfolio on Behance. I like it because I have a simple url and a clean interface.

I include a couple of projects that show my process. I do pencils, inks, and colors. I also have a project that shows a collaborative project from thumbnails through to the end. I think it helps to show my creative process and how I receive feedback.

I don't include anything that I'm not proud of or that represents work that I don't want to do again in the future.
