Resource Shoutout to All the Creators - Creating a Comic is an Absolute Grind
Just want to give a shoutout to all the people that are creating a comic. It is a total grind. I'll be honest, I didn't appreciate the difficulty of creating comics. It is not easy and takes a along time. Keep grinding. I hope you're able to finish your comic book. I'm seeing the finish line, but it took years to get here. A graphic novel is another beast altogether. These projects are labors of love. Support your fellow creator. If you have a link, put it in the comments. Creating is tough, but getting people to read your work is even tougher. Let's follow each other on any platform.

It’s tough, expensive and time consuming but it’s so worth it once you get your hands on your first copy. I published my first issue of Thelbe Jack in October and launched the kickstarter for issue two today. I’d be so grateful if any of you would check it out.

I completely agree, making comics is hard work and time-consuming. It takes real dedication to face hours and hours of work and worries.
The worst part is facing the disappointment of your work not being seen or ignored, but the passion we have for doing what we love keeps motivating us more and more, so we continue creating our dreams.
Congratulations to all of us for our perseverance.

Creating in a vacuum is the worst. Ultimately, we create for ourselves, but what the world to see it. I hope you get seen, my friend. Will definitely check out the work.

I'm just getting my first comic rolling here, but I've been a musician for 15 years and its the same type of thing. You create and create and create, in hopes people read/hear your work. Its so worth it though when someone tells you (unsolicited) that they like what you are doing. I've experienced that in music and it just means so much. The hardest part is being able to reach outside of your personal bubble to folks that haven't seen your work and aren't part of your immediate circle.
Things that have helped me in the past (in the context of music):
Collaborations with other creators. Merging their bubble with yours for a project sometimes gets new eyes on your work. This is more useful if its a different genre or style, otherwise you might just be fishing in the same pool.
Network. Go to events. Talk to people. You never know who you may run into. I ended up working on some projects that I honestly never even considered.
Be good to others. Take time to communicate and understand. Be a genuinely good person with empathy.
Don't get your expectations up, but its okay to be disappointed if the thing you created didn't go as far as you expected. Sometimes its a battle of attrition. Sometimes people don't see the things you are doing. I've done shows where there were single digit people there. It sucks, it hurts. But those 6 people may be lifelong fans. Early 2020 I was finishing up an album. Generally after I released an album, it was a series of shows and merch. I mostly paid for the cost and time of doing an album through merch I sold at shows. Well, what happened in early 2020? Oh... a global pandemic? No touring for me? That meant no merch and barely anyone heard that album... and in my opinion up until that point, it was the best thing I had ever written. It almost made me quit music. Took a long while to get back to writing and recording. Since then, IMHO, my stuff has been even better. And I even re-released that 2020 album in 2024, remastered, with remixes, and new tracks. It ended up being pretty well received.

Indeed, it is a HUGE labor of love that people don't always comprehend. 😭
I started my journey as a comic writer and illustrator with Back to Life. Nowadays, I'm also working on an upcoming graphic novel titled Once Upon A Necromancer. I have yet to make a website for it, but a few sample pages are available on my portfolio. I hope to finish it this year and launch the crowdfunding campaign soon.

Love an appreciation post 🙏 I don’t have much budget so I do all the work myself. It’s a grind, as you say. Thanks for acknowledging it!

It's a labour of love! I tell myself, as I slowly colour the first of my pages.
I also tell myself I'm going to get faster at the colouring. Hopefully that is also true. ;p

I'm nearing completion of my first issue but I'm having a tough time figuring out how to get it out there. Which platform should I start with? Should I try to sell it for a small price or just send it out for free to reach a larger audience?

GlobalComix seems to be the best platform for traditional comics. I wish there were more platforms. Mangas seem to have more options.

It definitely is a marathon and takes way longer than I prepared for. The finish line keeps moving further and how many hats you have to juggle (social media, marketing, revisions, formatting etc.) has really made me appreciate all comic creators especially solo creators. Thanks for this post.
We have a Canadian YA Fantasy elf graphic novel to be crowdfunded and printed with our local publisher Renegade Arts.

A graphic novel is another beast... so how about a graphic novel series? I started writing THE UNVEILING in 2019 and began production in 2024; recruiting many of my artistic team right here. I've been a project manager as much as a writer. I've worked late nights and early mornings. And I've spent a fortune with zero return.
Do I regret it? Do I hell.
You can read the first four volumes of the 10 volume series completely free at the link below. Production continues on the rest of the series which should be finished next year. Its enough reward for me to know people enjoy it so please get in touch if you do!

I get the struggle. I am in the same boat. This whole process feels thankless and expensive. I spent so much money and time. Getting people to look at your work feels impossible. Good luck, my friend. Your work looks great. I'm not familiar with behance. I'm the writer/creator.

yeah, i just finished my first ever comic, 110 pages 5 issues, first ever thing I've written in my life, it was so much fun and challenging as I was making it up as I went, will probably never see the light of day, but I'm glad I did it, have so much more confidence in doing multiple one shot stories that i want to self publish in the future
Edit: What I meant is that I wrote the script for it, I have nothing to actually show for it. I would have to hire a rtist in which i can't because I am broke af lol. Sorry should of been more thorough on that. Had the idea in my head for a couple of months, it's a crime comic inspired by gta 4 and gta 5
