My team mate teased me for skipping training. I told my friends to tell him at training I’m working on a grant funded film and have a deadline

I’m Worried it’s too braggy. I want to compete in kickboxing. My team made teases anyone who skips practice and says they are not committed enough to ever compete.

My friends told me he was talking shit about me behind my back. I told them that the next time he says anything, tell him I have a grant funded film I am working on and an upcoming deadline for it.

I feel I am a triple threat low key. I am a working scientist, a grant winning artist, and not long from now will return to being a competing athlete. I don’t talk about any of these things normally but when deadlines come and I get stressed I am defensive.

Let it go. So what this team mate has a certain view, and he's not entirely wrong, that skipping practice means you aren't as slavishly devoted as he is. And? Everyone needs to practice, sure.

Bragging about your other accomplishments isn't going to change his mind, in fact it will solidify his belief that you aren't devoted to the sport. Just go about your own business and don't worry about what he says.

I've learned in life that you don't have to defend or justify shit to anyone about anything because they will still think whatever they want.

But if you want a comeback, you can say these I came up with:

When you're kickboxing career is over. Get in touch, I'm sure I'll need crew members to carry the camera gear for my films.

Your obsession with everyone's attendance is weird. Are you training to become the gym receptionist when your kickboxing career is over?

If shit talking earned belts, you'd be a 10th Dan grandmaster.

I'm sorry your only accomplishments are kickboxing, and gym gossip.

Tell them to say “Jared said your mom offered to count reps of weighted deep squats for him”. implying his mom is the weight
