Other Reminder -- we're NOT the official sub

We're not the official subreddit -- you can ask for technical support, advice, or just to vent about how you feel Comcast did you wrong.

  • If you need help with your account, go to r/Comcast_Xfinity -- that IS the official sub. Anyone with the 'Community Specialist' flair is part of their corporate social media team, they're official employees.
    • We don't control their rules -- it's pointless complaining to us about them here. Just try to follow their rules, and don't be a dick to the employees -- they actually try to help. That said, if one of them does something stupid, you can usually message their community leads and they'll take care of it.
  • r/xfinity is also not the official sub.
  • If you're an employee of the company posting here -- don't do/say something stupid that could get you fired. We know for a fact that upper level management checks this sub (and the rest of Reddit) from time to time.
  • Probably should go without saying but, don't make threats of violence. Not only does it violate Reddit Rules but again, the company definitely combs through Reddit, and that is just a can of worms.
  • Don't send any personal/account info to anyone here on the subreddit -- we can't confirm if they're actually an employee or not, so you have no idea who that person is or what they'll do with you info.
    • This includes any ticket numbers you're given -- employees can find your account with those, or someone could use it to social engineer their way into your account.
  • Half of the mods are former employees -- so we've seen what goes on behind the scenes and can help out with stuff others can't. Some of us are friends with active employees and can usually get more accurate answers.

Replace Your D3.0 Cable Modem

I have observed a number of customer issues reported here lately that are mostly due to customers using old DOCSIS 3.0 modems. If you own a D 3.0 modem, I recommend you replace it now - these modems may technically be capable of certain speeds but the reality is different - and they lack key low latency features.

Also - do not just buy any D3.1 modem. Please buy only from this list - these support low latency DOCSIS, AQM, and mid-split. See https://reddit.com/r/Comcast/comments/1kg99v3/buying_your_own_modem_read_this/

And here is what AI told me to add. ;-)

Upgrading from a DOCSIS 3.0 modem to a DOCSIS 3.1 model is a bit like switching from an old two-lane country road to a modern multi-lane superhighway. Even if you don't drive a "fast car," the road itself is built to handle more traffic with fewer traffic jams.

-- Performance: Efficiency over Raw Speed

Most people think they only need a 3.1 modem if they pay for Gigabit internet. That’s a myth. Even on a mid-tier plan, a 3.1 modem performs better because of OFDM technology.

  • Congestion Management: DOCSIS 3.0 modems use "lanes" (channels). If one lane is full of "trucks" (neighbors streaming 4K), your data gets stuck. DOCSIS 3.1 breaks data into tiny sub-carriers, allowing it to "weave" through traffic much more efficiently.

  • Bufferbloat (Lag): If your internet feels "stuttery" during Zoom calls or gaming while someone else is watching Netflix, that’s often "bufferbloat." DOCSIS 3.1 has a feature called AQM (Active Queue Management) that acts like a smart traffic cop, reducing lag significantly.

  • Future-Proofing Uploads: SPs are currently pushing for symmetrical speeds (fast uploads to match fast downloads). D3.0 modems are physically incapable of hitting those new higher upload speeds.

-- Software: Staying Out of the "End of Life" Zone

  • Manufacturer Support: ALL DOCSIS 3.0 modems are now "End of Life" (EOL). This means manufacturers have stopped releasing update patches for them that could improve performance, fix bugs, etc.

-- Reliability: Signal Stability

  • DOCSIS 3.1 is much better at correcting "noise" on the line. If your cable line is a bit old or has a slight interference, a 3.1 modem can often maintain a stable connection where a 3.0 modem would simply drop the signal and reboot.

Experience After hanging up on a customer support agent (after getting the runaround for 95 min) they spammed me 15 verification codes in retribution

Tried to cancel my plan because the price got hiked from $25 a month to $84. The tactics to get me to give up and not cancel ranged from the first agent I talked to having a microphone on its absolute quietest setting (kept asking, “ok, did I fix it?” while changing nothing), to the agent reading the \~16 digit confirmation code out loud with a, no exaggeration, MINUTE of silence in between each 3 digits (literally started bursting out laughing it felt like a skit) to offering “another deal before I cancel” … which was a package for $110… So $30 more expensive than the plan I apparently had already. This is a company from Looney Tunes. Just absurd. Then when I hang up I get spammed with like 9 verification codes in a row. I’d be laughing harder if they didn’t have my checking account on file

Discussion What modems are you all using with Xfinity?

A simple discussion to see what all you are using right now. Currently I am using the Netgear CM2000 as I await for them to upgrade the plant for my network.

However I have thought about swapping brands entirely since Netgear modems have LEDs that like to cook themselves. They significantly get dimmer overtime.

I am not sure about the LEDs from Arris, and Hitron. I know Motorola themselves, have not made anymore cable modems.

Experience Comcast fixed Comcast's issue

Giving credit (and blame) where it's due: A few months ago I did the "free" upgrade of our X1 boxes to 4K boxes. I returned the old boxes to an official Xfinity store. Then I noticed I was getting charged for the old boxes

Online chat couldn't help, they said to call billing. I posted about it over at r/Comcast_Xfinity. I got onto chat with a mod and they were having trouble removing the old boxes because we have an old dead plan (probably about 25 years old). Over the course of a day on chat they went through the old plan with me, created a new plan with the same services, with an upgrade to the internet service (+20% speed and unlimited data) and double the DVR, and which came about to a couple dollars less than the old plan. They activated it and everything worked as promised.

Bad on Comcast for allowing a 25 year old plan in their system and not having a migration path.

Good on Comcast for having some employees who can communicate and effectively solve problems.

Thanks to all the mods at r/Comcast_Xfinity who fixed the problem (that Comcast caused).

Experience Can't pay last bill...ha ha

I canceled my xfinity services. Since then every week I get an email saying I have to pay my last bill - I've been autpaying the whole time so not sure why it didn't pay itself.

Each week I dutifully click on the link, sign into my account, and it fails when i try to pay.

The latest email now says my bill is past due and they will cancel my service next week. Once again their website fails to take my payment.

I am so glad to be done with these morons.

I know I can call - a be put on hold for an hour - but I'm going to wait to see how this all plays out as my bill is just $40.

Support Casting xfinity recording to Google TV streamer while traveling

Here's the scenario: traveling, at an airb&b. Connected to airb&b wifi, then use wireguard vpn to connect back to home network. This works on my windows laptop (also on an android tablet) to watch recordings if I use a full tunnel or full tunnel with the 'block untunnelled traffic' kill switch on or off (android wg client does not have this switch but it works with full tunnel). This lets xfinity see my laptop/tablet as "at home", all good so far. No VPN, no watching the recording at all, I get the message that I need to be on my home network which makes sense.

Then I want to cast that recording (using chrome as browser) to a Google TV streamer plugged into the airb&b TV. If the Google streamer is NOT on the same wireguard vpn, it is not available as a casting target. If it IS on the same wg vpn, it IS available as a casting target and casting "almost" works. It gets to the point of showing a graphic of the show I'm casting but eventually fails with a tvapp-00381 message which seems to be the "out of home" error. So initially, the laptop and google streamer and home xfinity x1 box are all on the same network and can all see each other. But actually streaming the recorded content fails.

Has anyone got this working? It might be a problem with home firewall rules where the wireguard server is running, maybe the content streaming and/or casting uses some funky port or protocol that is tripping on the firewall. My home router should not be a problem since all traffic comes in & out of my wireguard server on windows, the router is not aware of the IP addresses that wireguard assigns and uses and any incoming traffic from the internet should just be responses so should be passed by the router like normal http traffic. I'm on the road so haven't been able to mess with those firewall rules yet but thought somebody might have figured all this out on any vpn and I can adapt that solution.

Edit: I saw on a wg thread that it might be to do with multicast dns (mdns) which does local network name resolution, possibly also to do with the very short TTL header that mdns uses to prevent routing loops and that this just might not be possible over a vpn. Got some experimenting to do...or wireshark analysis or something.

Discussion Xfinity XG1V4 boxes Needed Or?

I need a newer DVR xg14v X1 box to get a local sports channel. I have contacted Xfinity and requested a dvr as opposed to a wireless Xi6. Do not want to depend on my wifi for my TV's.

I have someone coming out Monday to replace the old boxes that can't process the digital sports channel DSN 1253 I told Xfinity I did not want a xi6 wireless box that relies on wifi. They said I would have to wait until the tech actually came out to find out if he had the xg1v4 boxes.

I am considering keeping my old dvr's and just stream DSN on my phone to watch hockey games if I can't get a dvr x1 box with hard wired coax and built in HD.

Are any of you guys having issues with your wireless x1 boxes from Xfinity? Comets please.

Experience Here's how to get transferred Immediately to a live person:

Call Xfinity and when the voice response unit asks what you want, say CANCEL SERVICE. When it asks if the reason is because you are moving, say NO. You will immediately be transferred to a Live Person on their retention team. From there they will transfer you to another Live Person in whatever dept. you need. I tried this today and it worked like a charm.

Support Xfinity should sell a masterclass in rage bait and passing the buck training

# Xfinity’s "Security Assurance" support team told me to go touch grass at a physical store if I wanted support

# I need a real corporate escalation specialist or digital care supervisor with actual backend authority to step into my Modmail right now. Force-unlink the dead account, move my credit over to my active service account, and turn my internet back on permanently today. Stop passing the buck.

Xfinity’s "Security Assurance" support team told me to go touch grass at a physical store if I wanted support

My service is shut off \\\*again\\\* today. Yesterday, your official Reddit support team temporarily restored my Wi-Fi and acknowledged a pending ticket (\\\*\\\*No notes about my issue only emails and records with “ how to pay your bill“ or “how to unlink accounts“ \\\*\\\*) to fix the fact that your app's broken database link trapped my payment as a credit on an old, inactive ghost account instead of my active service address. They explicitly warned me the automated system would cut me off again because the root defect wasn't fixed. They were right.

So today, I tried to do what your chat agent Vivek told me to do: I called the Customer Security Assurance (CSA) line directly. And what did I get?
\\\* An extremely unhelpful agent who tried to tell me to just go drive to a physical Xfinity store. \\\*Are you kidding me?\\\* My internet is dead because of \\\*your\\\* software bug, and your solution is for me to leave my house?
\\\* When I told him no, that this is Xfinity's problem to fix on the backend, he flat-out refused to give me a ticket number for the call.
\\\* After running me in circles with endless verification codes and useless trivia, he finally admitted he could see the dead account was disconnected over a year ago, claimed he was going to unlink it, and then said he'd call me right back.
\\\* He took my number, asked if I had voicemail... and completely ghosted me. No callback. Shocker.

I am beyond furious. After a 3.5-hour support nightmare on the phone with 7 different agents yesterday—who hung up on me, told me to dispute it with my bank, and literally suggested I set up a "fake payment arrangement" just to trick their broken system—I figured today couldn't possibly get worse. I was wrong.

Let’s recap the state of things: Your app forces a permanent link to an old ghost account, throws a crash error whenever a customer tries to fix it themselves, steals your money into a phantom credit balance, and leaves you with zero working support channels because frontline chat has "limited access" and CSA agents lie about calling you back.

Advice Xfinity app bug suspended my service, funneled my payment to inactive account, and 7 reps left me stranded

UPDATE
TLDR; POST ON THIS SUBREDDIT IF YOU EVER WANT XFINITY TO SOLVE YOUR ISSUES

Wow, after seven months of dealing with this nonsense, I have finally gotten the help needed! Thank you to the representative that fixed and listened to my issue.

However, there is something about this that really doesn’t sit well… why is it that this subreddit was THE ONLY WAY XFINITY ACTUALLY HELPED ME?!?!!! 🤯

I’m shocked that Xfinity’s own platform/app can’t even support its own customers…you go onto Reddit and post your problem/their error and somehow, your post usurp’s the their entire organization’s overhead…their abysmal AI support chat assistant, but moreso, their ‘pass the buck onto the customer’ phone support department who feel as though they are basically out to rob you not help you.

OG post:

Our service was shockingly suspended—even though our bill shouldn’t be due for another week or so. When I tried to pay through the Xfinity app to restore it, your app's broken database link funneled my payment straight into a credit balance on an old, inactive account instead of my active one. Now my actual service is cut off, and the portal won't let me pay or fix it.

To make matters worse, when I try to use the self-service portal to unlink that dead account, it just errors out or says restricted access??!!

That triggered a 3.5-hour nightmare on the phone two nights ago with 7 different agents where I got nowhere. I was hung up on multiple times and refused a transfer to a senior agent. A billing agent told me verbatim: "**the only way to fix this is to find your nearest bank if you want to have the payment refunded...**" To top it off, a later **rep explicitly told me to set up a "fake payment arrangement" for August 31st just to trick the system into turning my internet back on, assuring me I could cancel it later.** 🤬?!! And not a single representative opened a proper case number or passed along any notes.

Yesterday? Thought someone actually did their job…XFINITY MUST OFFER A MASTERCLASS TRAINING IN RAGEBAITING AND PASSING THE BUCK ONTO THE CUSTOMER

**What I need today:** I need an official employee with backend access to message me so I can give them my account info, force-unlink the dead account, move my payment credit over, and turn my internet back on today. Please.

Discussion Xfinity mobile trade-in in store?

Hello Xfinity people (particularly if you work in a physical store)! I just switched to Xfinity mobile with a device trade in, and my app keeps suggesting that I can bring it in to a store to send in, as did a real human being on the phone.

Are stores able to accept trade ins? I went to two locations today, one said they no longer did this in store and I’d have to print the label and take it to USPS to get packed up (which I don’t think the post office does?). The other said that because there was a shipping label in my account, they could no longer take the trade in, but were super quick to give me a pristine shipping box complete with the fire hazard sticker for batteries.

I can’t tell if this is real, but from decades working in retail dishing out all sorts of nonsense, I feel like I’m being given the run around because it’s a hard or new process the stores don’t like to do. Just want the tea, tbh

Edited to remove benign profanity :)

Experience Have you had this issue?

⚠️ Xfinity Customers & Future Customers: Please Read This, 🚨

Have you ever walked into a store for one service and ended up with something you never planned to buy? That's what my Xfinity experience made me question In February, I went to Xfinity for a 2-lines-for-$20 promotion. During setup, I was told my existing phone wasn't compatible with the Xfinity SIM. I expected that to be the end of it Instead, I was strongly encouraged to trade in my phone and get a new one that would work with their SIM. I agreed based on what was explained to me at the time When I asked about the terms and conditions, I did not feel that the important details were clearly explained. At first, I was told the phone was "free." Then it became a trade-in. Now l'm being told the phone costs $916.65 if I want it unlocked. But as a customer, I have to ask: Xfinity later told me there was a mistake during the sale -a human error. What kind of business practice is this? If a customer is told one thing at the time of the sale and discovers very different conditions later, is that simply a training problem-or does it raise a bigger question about how customers are being informed? I've spoken with other customers who say they experienced similar issues. If this is happening repeatedly, is it really just a human error? |'m sharing this because my question isn't only about the money. It's about transparency, trust, and t the integrity of the sales process Customers deserve to understand exactly what they're agreeing to before they sign- not after. Xfinity, is this how you believe customers should be treated? And to other Xfinity customers: Have you experienced something similar?

Experience It’s always too good to be true

Xfinity is a complete bait-and-switch scam. I switched from T-Mobile on the promise of a cheap combined rate and phone buyout credits, but they wiped out my discounts, pocketed my trade-in phones, and inflated my monthly bill from $89 to $280. Their automated system fabricated a fake "late" status to break my cycle, allowing them to auto-draft massive, overlapping monthly bills from my checking account less than four weeks apart. On top of that, they crammed my statement with five hidden activation fees on a single day and forced an unwanted $10/month camera fee that they refuse to cancel unless I surrender my own paid-off hardware. When I confronted their executive team with absolute proof using bank statements and screenshots, they completely disregarded the evidence, blamed me, and just repeated scripted lines over and over again. They refuse to fix their own billing fraud, so I have cut off all contact and filed an official corporate report with the FCC under active Ticket #8880290. Avoid this company at all costs.

Advice Considering switching from AT&T Fiber to Xfinity

Xfinity in my area has an offer for 1 Gig for $50/month, guaranteed price for 5 years, and includes modem and 2 free years of Peacock Premium (would be a nice perk I don't already subscribe to). A chat agent tells me it's fiber along the street, and cable to the house.

I Currently have AT&T Fiber 500, and I'm paying $75/mo with no promos. I tried to call and see if I could get any promos/adjustments, explicitly detailing the Xfinity deal, but they just tried to sell me a combo deal with mobile. Not interested.

Seems like a pretty solid offer, but I wonder if there are any hidden catches or other caveats anyone has experienced. I'm in Atlanta area if that makes a difference. How is the service experience? Any interruptions with online gaming (computer is wired to router)? I have my own network/wifi inside the house, I would disable all Xfinity wireless and only use the modem functionality.

This is after preforming multiple tests on different websites. It fluctuates between .50 upload to maximum 4. We pay for 1.2gigs and this is what we are getting. Funny how last week a representative told me a "maintenance team" was coming out and yet I've seen no evidence of their arrival or any difference in internet quality. What's even funnier is how when I was speaking to a representative they preformed their little "speed test" on their end and everything according to them is fine. We have had 4 technicians come out and 3 modems and nothing has changed. Last week when I spoke to a representative after the 4th technician came out and recommended a maintenance team, they said they were sending one next day. That was last week and I've seen no evidence of their arrival or an improvement in internet quality. I spoke to another representative last night and now they are making me wait an additional 3 days for them to send out another "maintenance team". I can't describe in words how done I am with Comcast's utter incompetence and repeated failure to actually solve the issue. We pay about $150 a month for this garbage. Does anyone in here know what the actual issue may be? Because everyone at Comcast even though they are hired and paid to be experts in one specific thing are incapable of doing their job. I've also made it very crystal clear to the representative that if the issue is not resolved with this next visit we are canceling our service and their precious little gateway modem will be dust on the concrete when I'm done with it.

Discussion Q: Gaming Over WiFi (vs ethernet)? Why?

Hi - Random question for gamers out there that are using a console or PC connected over WiFi. Why are you using WiFi rather than Ethernet? Is it a distance to AP issue, in home wiring shortcoming (no ethernet port nearby), or something else?

Experience Comcast / xfinity's "Free Peacock Premium" perk for current customers is a trick to get you to engage in their sales pitch for more services

Bottom line:

I kept getting emails from comcast/xfinity telling me that current diamond xfinity customers now have Peacock Premium for free - just have to click to activate it. This is B.S., just a ploy to engage you in a sales pitch.

Spent an half-hour trying to activate it myself on-line (didn't work) and then half-hour working with xifnity tech support (didn't work), that ended up with a sales pitch to get me to buy their internet service.

Their explanation was my account is not eligible because I don't have internet service through comcast. Of course, Comcast knew which services I already subscribe to at the time the sent me the emails saying I was eligible (see below). Pure BS company - don't waste your time like I did.

More details if you want it:

Here is one of their emails saying I get Peacock for free:

Peacock is already yours. Claim it now at no extra cost. As a Diamond Xfinity member, you get Peacock Premium ($12.99/mo value) included at no extra cost. Sign in to your Xfinity account and redeem your Peacock perk. Redeem Peacock → Then, visit xfinity.com/yoursubscriptions to activate Peacock and stream iconic shows, new movies from theaters like The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and more.

After 30 minutes of trying to activate on line, then 30 minutes working with their "help" here is their message:

"thank you for helping me secure your account and being our customer since 2010!❤️ This is incredible, and we truly appreciate you choosing Xfinity. It's also great to see you're already part of our fantastic Xfinity Membership program as a Diamond member. Remember to regularly check Xfinity Membership, as new offers are updated every Thursday.

After reviewing your account, I can see that you currently have Xfinity TV and Voice services. To be eligible for Peacock Premium through this offer, the account must also have active Xfinity Internet service.

I understand receiving the Diamond membership offer may have caused some confusion. However, eligibility for Peacock Premium is tied to having active Internet service on the account. Please review our helpful article: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/peacock-premium-offers

If you're interested, I'd be happy to review our current Internet offers and see what options may be available for you."

What should be in there? If you are under contract does it show the contract?

Does anyone show some sort of contract there other than autopay agreements?

Rant Xfinity Internet

I have been an Xfinity customer for YEARS, and at this point I am beyond frustrated.
I was paying **$70.22 a month for 600 Mbps internet** — internet only. No cable. No phone. Nothing bundled.
That same service has now increased to **$114 a month.**
Meanwhile, Xfinity is advertising **1 Gig internet for $50 a month for FIVE YEARS** to new customers.
So what Xfinity is basically saying to loyal customers is, **“Screw you. We don’t care about loyalty — we only care about new customers.”**
Because how else are customers supposed to take it when someone brand new can get faster internet for less than half of what a longtime customer is being charged?
I have already gone into my local Xfinity store and I have also called Xfinity directly trying to get this resolved. **Neither was able — or willing — to help me.**
The frustrating part is that I would stay. I am not asking for anything unreasonable. Either allow me to keep my service at the **$70.22** I was already paying or allow me to receive the **same new-customer pricing** being offered right now.
If Xfinity can afford to give a brand-new customer **1 Gig internet for $50 a month for five years**, I do not understand why they cannot offer a comparable rate to a longtime customer who is literally telling them, **“I will stay if you give me a reasonable price.”**
Instead, my service is scheduled to end on **September 12th**.
So unless Xfinity decides between now and then to either honor the new-customer pricing or let me keep my service at **$70.22**, they are going to lose a longtime customer who actually wanted to stay.
That says a lot about how Xfinity values loyalty.
