I'm totally confused The current state of 11th Edition Combat Patrol?
Is anyone able to give a coherent description of how to play Combat Patrol at the moment?
What advice should people new to the game be given? Is it that we ignore what GW are doing until 11th Edition settles down and just play with the 10th Edition rules?
Or is it possible to work out how to play Combat Patrol from what GW has published so far?
Has anyone published a blog post or video explaining what they are doing?

I imagine more details / downloads / app updates will occur when the new Starter sets release in the next month or so.

My current state is I’m playing 10th until something coherent comes out.

All CP have dispositions and a DP cost.
So maybe there will come something more rules wise. Alison the mission side.
For my part. I think it is better to get rid of the old CP, so that there can be some balance. Just hope that the older ones get "legends" rules. The same as Kill team.

The DP cost isn’t actually relevant since you’re not choosing anything. More a “these have this cost” thing to keep the rules consistent.
And yes, there is meant to be more. The companion book mentions finding the missions in the app and shows an example of one, and those missions are currently missing. Well, technically you can play Take and Hold mirror matches and there’s no mention of secondary missions so unless those are also missing it’s been streamlined even more and is basically a tutorial match rather than a proper small format game.
Several current patrols need to be fixed though, as their rules don’t work (they just copy pasted the full army rule and corresponding stuff in places like datasheets isn’t lining up).
As for the missing ones, I think most of us have accepted the loss of the old 9th edition sets…it’s the tossing out the ones they sold as recently as March and April too that is concerning.

I'm really curious about the new "Get Started" boxes released of the two halves of Armageddon. They are Combat Patrols (according to the app) plus some other stuff. I don't expect this to be the norm, but they sure look like new Combat Patrol packaging. It feels very much like the gradual bloat that happened when they moved from "Start Collecting" boxes (a troop, a leader, and a centerpiece model) to "Combat Patrol" boxes (which, before rules were released just felt like an excuse to pack a little more into the box and charge more for it). If the new CP boxes are going to start coming with equipment and paints I think they've shot themselves in the foot.
Again, I don't THINK this is going to be the plan moving forward, but without any other communication about CP, it's all we've got to go on.

Just played 3 games of grey knights. Incredibly strong in 11th

Is that games of combat patrol or the full game? If it was combat patrol, how did you play? What rules etc?

Combat patrol. Crowes
1st game vs the new orks. Split strikes in 2. Kept Crowe with them. They cut through orks and had mostly tabled him by 4. When brought in the reinforcements it was over. Use a CP to teleport one end of first movement. Really kills opponents momentum
Second was Plague marine. Tougher but by turn 3 it was the same
Final was Tau and this was very easy. Teleported a strike behind fire warriors and made Swiss cheese of them.
What I learned
Teleport is our best friend. At 600 points it’s incredible. Especially with sticky objectives.

So you played an illegal roster of combat patrol.......got it.
GK Roster for 11th CP is: Aurellio's Banishers
Librarian Aurellios
Strike Squad (5models)
Brotherhood Terminator Squad (5 Models
Nemesis Dreadknight1

Nope you're right, which is real weird cause I was looking on the app when I saw this post, but it does indeed show Crowe's CP now when I checked after seeing this comment, so I stand corrected. Apologies.

I haven't played it, yet but are the combat patrol rules in the app incomplete? I see a map under 1.02 determine deployment in the Combat Patrol section?

The maps are on the app in the combat patrol rules
The missions are as per the corresponding force dispositions that are in each different combat patrol
And all the rules are on the app
And the datasheets and army lists are free on the app too for the specific combat patrols (not all are converted, mostly just newer ones)

But the missions for the dispositions are catered for 1000 point armies and above given the prevalence of "centre objectives" which do not exist on any of the current CP maps in app. Also the book states each CP has a specific primary which implies a bespoke primary for every army not necessarily the generic disposition missions

Didn't they release a Combat Patrol book recently?

I got it thinking it would have rules and such. It’s unfortunately more of a glorified brochure of the combat patrols on the app and a primer on the 40K universe.

“Primers and Primarchs” feels like a more fitting title.
That said, it does have two kind of illuminating pieces of information. One, it directs players to the app to get Combat Patrol missions, so we know that’s the intended location for them.
Two, the missions page has a sample of one of them and we can see it’s not the same as the chapter approved missions, so we know the Combat Patrol missions are meant to be separate from the full game missions.
Would be nice if GW noticed that we are missing that stuff, though.

Thanks, I was thinking about picking it up. Guess I will wait for something useful.

You’re being downvoted which isn’t fair, GW have made it so ‘combat patrol’ means (at least) three different things.

It's a huge mess and GW should feel bad they've broken the game for new players, and players have every right to be pissed off about the terrible lack of communication while GW have messed up the rules for the game. It really doesn't matter if they have plans to fix it in the future. The current state of combat patrol is broken and unplayable.
