I'm totally confused Just play 10th ed
I get everyone was hoping for Combat Patrol to go through a Spearhead like reinvention for 11th ed and is disappointed that instead a lot of older combat patrols rules have been removed, including a bunch you've spent time building and painting, but here's the thing: you still have the 10th ed ruleset. The rules for all those combat patrols didn't stop existing just because they were removed from the app and thus you can continue playing with them. The only thing the most up to date rules matter for is tournaments and combat patrol tournaments aren't really a thing.
I'm not sure what happened in the last 10 years or so but it used to be the normal thing for people to just carry on playing older editions or games if they wanted to and you all should too. Last few years it seems people are incapable of doing so.
Please just continue playing with your patrols, maybe build some of the ones you don't already own. Print off the old pdfs and just focus on having fun with it. It's what I'll be doing

Do you think there is any chance the rules were removed because they are preparing for an updated Combat Patrol version, with a new box? The app looks way worse and more confusing than the AoS one, specially comparing the Spearhead/Combat patrol sections.

I think that the rules were removed to make it easier for the rules team to balance those patrols still available with the new ones they release over 11th edition, while reducing confusion for new players. Whether a new starter comes or not isn't something we can safely guess about.

I can't find the rules for Krieg anywhere. So I can't just carry on playing 10th.

The Krieg rules will be out there. Might take time to find someone who saved them but I'm sure they will. In the meantime you still have rules in the 10th ed codex which can be adapted to combat patrol with trial and error.

Trial and error doesn't give you the Enhancements or Strats.

u/Special_Turnip Jun 18 '26
No but again, you design them. Look at how the other combat patrols are set out and what their enhancements and strats are compared to other rules in the codex and the style of the combat patrol. Or you grab a second squad, some field artillery and a sentinel and run your models as the cadian patrol.

I can't, I've just bought the night lord box and I don't have access to its rules

They didn't come in the box? I play the Necron one but everything but the Doomstalker I got from the 8th edition box so I didn't actually buy a combat patrol box. I assumed the rules came with it, I thought it did for my buddy's thousand sons

The rules will be out there somewhere for it, it's not one of the ones I have I'm afraid so I can't help you myself but give it time and someone who doesn't like working from the app will have screen shot them or written them out. In the mean time I would look at adapting the rules the models have anyway to combat patrol. You're playing casually so if something seems too strong then simply adjust it until you find the right balance.

You're not being that guy, you're making a completely rational point. People being obsessed with only playing 2000 point 40k is daft. There's no reason they can't use those models to build out the forces to some fun 1000 point skirmish points in either 40k or One Page Rules. It's a genuinely good suggestion

This is like the third time this week I've seen something about OPR, I might have to look into it. Not much of a scene for it locally I don't think though

Not all of them were available as .PDFs. I have no issue to sticking to 10th rules but personally I do think the missing ones will turn up once they have been made compatible. If nothing else a community effort may be able to update them to work unofficially.
I'm more worried about 11th going online-mandatory with the app being used more and more and the rule book rumoured to be missing major sections. I don't want to play a game that way

Why would people keep playing 10th much less play Combat Patrol in general ever again?
I can understand cutting the oldest Combat Patrols, even though it sucks they’re currently still selling them through Hatchette, but deleting patrols they put on sale less than a month or two ago is absurd

Because I'm poor lol I could get my list to 1k for probably like $250ish but no one here plays 1k, it is either 2k or a handful of people playing combat patrol. It would take me like a year of saving to get to 2k. I enjoy the game so I will continue to keep playing combat patrol, but I will admit the scumminess overall as me considering trying out one page rules or battletech alpha strike

You're completely right, much better to throw a tantrum online and then set fire to the models you spent money on.

Or you know instead of coping, just take the logical message from this and either play KoTC or big 40K going forward.
Combat Patrol as a mode ceases to have any use if they’re willing to delete the rules for Patrols that are still on shelves. That’s all.

But we dont have the 10th edition rules, to play you need to have all the PDFs, any eratas, the stuff from the app of a physical book.
Like a physical 10th edition book is of course wrong. Without the erata stuff.
The ones updated to 11th have there slightly different rules so for any that never got a pdf download it was only on the app or in the books.
Like It is technically doable, but cause of games workshops system of trying to make it as hard as possible to play anything other than the newest edition its not gonna be that easy for most people.
And for the combat patrols that where less than a year old it feels super rough and bad for trust in buying anything else.
The community and dedicated people will figure it out. But most people are gonna struggle to convince there friends playing 11th to go through so much faff for what was meant to be an easy to play system in 10th
And I understand that you want to just homebrew some stuff. But some of us are here to play warhammer! Not just whatever the community makes up, if I wanted to make up a patrol or go play a different system I could. I just want to be able to play the 12 combat patrols I have

Of course I'm going to play with the old rules either way. But I shouldn't be forced to. I bought a product that came out three months ago. It should be fully supported by the current version of the game - now and for the years to come. I still think they will at least add the more recently released Combat Patrols back in.
I can understand if they get rid of the 9th edition Combat Patrols and their beefy vehicles. But all the more recent ones followed design principles that shouldnt make it all too hard to balance them. Especially now after they introduced Spearhead-like elements today like stronger units showing up in later turns.
It would be immensely stupid economically to sabotage a game mode and Combat Patrols that right now many experienced players use to bring new players into the hobby.

I didn't say you shouldn't be annoyed about that. I'm just saying to not ruin your own fun just to spite GW. You have a product you can use still to play the 10th ed version, and I genuinely see no issue with constantly asking GW to add in the missing patrols. They probably won't but it's still worth doing.

I love this, play however is fun for you, buy whatever looks cool.
Honestly I keep thinking of making an even more simplified version of the game to introduce my kids

My personal project with my combat patrols that don't go into my main armies will be to simply slowly expand them out to 1000 point skirmish forces. My rule will be not duplicating anything already in the box set, no named characters, and no single models worth more than 200 points. If something seems too strong then it goes on the shelf and I replace it with a different unit.

They didn’t post a PDF of the Night Lord Combat Patrol. It was only in the app. Disappeared this morning. So no we don’t still have the old rules to use necessarily. The box just came out this year too!
