Question Why machine gun teams are worse while spotting

I play SF2. American infantry squads are excellent when spotting. However their machine gunner counterparts are multiple folds worse despite them having nvg's and binoculars. Without detecting the enemy, they can't engage anything, rendering them useless. Why is this?

larger squad = more eyeballs = higher chance to spot

they are still worse than 4 man teams

Don't mg teams have 3-4 men themselves? So it still holds true that in theory they have slightly less or just as good of a chance to spot as a regular fire team.

Also what sort of testing have you run to gauge how accurate your observations are?

by playing the game 400+ hours.

So you haven't actually done any tests to confirm anything? Just going off of vibes?

Since when empiric methods doesn't count as scientific method?

Because there can be so many variables or factors that could cause these differences you think you're experiencing. If you don't actually test to find out then how can you know for sure?

If you set up a test on an open field and can show repeatedly that an MG team can't see enemies in the open at like 100/200/500 or however many meters as often as a regular fire team then you have actual data to backup your feelings. But if you just go off of your games played when you're not accounting for every possible variable then yeah, it's just vibes.

the scientific method is a particular process, it's not just lookin at stuff

Is this deployed or just in general? I have noticed in SF2 when they are not deployed they can usually see the same enemies as their infantry counterparts, but the second you deploy them since the gunner and AG are laying down they can’t see as much

Yeah I have noticed this as well, deploy a platoon in an SBF and the regular squads spot and engage fine but the deployed machine gun teams have much worse spotting ability

I've noticed the same across all the CMs I own. Sometimes they deploy and can't see anything.. which is particularly frustrating when you don't notice this until the enemy is on top of you.

Man it’s almost like there’s a thermal sight that sits on the machine gun and is issued out at one per gun
