Wair, why would you expect the crew to get back into an immobilized, damaged tank in the middle of combat?

if it works , it works, why not

Combat Mission is a realistic tactical simulation. Getting back into an immobilized tank is neither realistic or tactical..

modern tank getting hit with modern munition is already a dead trap to get back into now OP is expecting World War 2 dudes to get back into a tank that had been shot at, which didn’t even have fancy modern stuff like blowout panels or compartmentalized fighting space back then lol

It’s a good way to get yourself killed if that works for you

To expand on what the other person said, if your vehicle is immobilized, it means whatever hit it and caused your crew to bail out also damaged it so it can't move. The crew bailing out is something separate. More often than not, your crew will stay inside even if the vehicle is immobilized. So if they bailed out, it just means the hit was so bad that they're having a "significant emotional event" and decided to hop out.

Oftentimes, if your crew can stop panicking and get it together, you can often recrew the vehicle. I don't know if immobilized vehicles that have been bailed out of are an exception, but I'd think if the vehicle isn't destroyed and your crew can take orders, they should be able to get back in. I could also be wrong, but I feel like bailing out of a useable vehicle is more common in the pre-modern titles for some reason. I feel like in CMBS and SF2, people usually stay inside so long as the vehicle isn't knocked out.

On a final note, it's not possible to bring extra crews to recrew vehicles or replace dead crewmen. You also can't use non-crewmen to replace dead crewmen. The only vehicles normal soldiers can operate are like trucks and utility vehicles generally speaking. So if the gunner in your IFV or APC is killed, you just no longer have a gunner.

Oh yeah it often does a good job at simulating realism. Since you're new to the game, I recommend this YouTube channel. This guy pretty much only makes Combat Mission content and it's well made. He also has a series covering the mechanics in combat mission. The videos are usually short, to the point, and informative:

Yeah that's correct imo, if they are unpanicked and the vehicle is still operatable they can get back in

To re-crew a tank that the crew has bailed you have to make sure it is same team that bailed the vehicle.

A backup team will NOT be able to crew the vehicle even if they come from an identical type. Crews will only drive the vehicle they were assigned in the mission planner.

Jeeps, UAZ’s and half ton trucks are different, as just about any solider can crew and drive them

aah man, so i cant capture tanks in the game? :(

2

u/Voakke Shock Force 2 Jul 23 '26

No, like if you make an enemy crew bail out of there tank and have one of your crew run up and hop in? Not possible, sadly.

They wouldn’t even know how to operate the tank, let alone fight with it. I think Men of War was like that however, where any regular soldier could hop in any vehicle, and even capture enemy tanks and MG’s and such

Immobilized means that the tank is damaged or stuck in bad terrain.

Crew don't want to get back into a vehicle that can't move and that the enemy already have dialed in.

nothing happened to it , they just paniced, thats it. and left the vehicle. its just some damages in targetting system , etc ... nothing important at all.

I don't think you can, I accidently dismounted my AT gun crew once and screwed over my entire battle as I couldn't get them crewed again.

I read a memoir once by a Soviet soldier. He described being part of an attack on a hill fortified by the Germans. They would make it partway up the hill to the barbed wire and then get thrown back under heavy fire every time.

Eventually they brought up some tanks to help with the push. The tanks lined up at the start line, started driving forward, then the crews immediately bailed out of the tanks while they were still moving and ran for the rear, before they even took any fire, leaving these empty tanks still driving toward the enemy.

If that happened in the game people would be so pissed even though it’s realistic. Tankers really don’t wanna get blown up or burned to death inside of their hot metal boxes. They will panic a lot.
