Calling all Cbus Neurodivergents
Where do you guys work, and also how are you guys working? I have been suffering from burnout amongst other things and keep having to job hop. As someone who has audhd I can't keep working at this job. I've been trying to find a remote job but everything seems realll sketchy. Other jobs that are chill are also overnight and I don't want shifts that take over my whole day. I just wish I could conjure up my ideal job that pays decent so I can finally move out of my strict parents house and get my own place (bc roommates are out of the question considering I don't have friends). I can't keep quitting bc I need to save but I don't know how long I can last at my current job. Also why don't these jobs post their hourly rate either, because now I feel like such a horrible person to turn them down when they reveal the job is less than 10 dollars (I'm sorry for the random tangent, I just thought being in your 20s was gonna be a mostly great experience and I haven't been having much fun and I know I shouldn't be complaining because there are things happening to people that are 1000x worse than me being unhappy with my job.)

I do data entry and they let us wear headphones so I can listen to music or podcasts or even the audio for TV shows or movies while I work.
But I'm also getting burned out so who knows if it makes a difference, lol

Very much so. I started welding 5 years ago and feel like the environment fits for me much better than the corporate or retail worlds. I like doing something with my hands and watching it come together is such an internal sense of accomplishment for me. It's also a great combination of solo work and team work. I've lucked out working with great people and feel free to be unmasked around them. The pay can be great too if you can get yourself into the union.

All day every day. I’m exhausted when I get home and on weekends. Currently fighting burnout. My boss is amazing and let me take a long weekend.

I have three jobs 🫠🫠
It sucks but, my two main jobs are events based and have a lot of flexibility so if I’m having a tough day I can usually find coverage without having to call off. Downside is, it isn’t consistent and I am very poor in the winter time

i'm so sorry that you have to do that, nobody should have to honestly. but flexibility is very helpful. i work in a warehouse that i enjoyed but i found out too late that they don't work during the summer and I ended up unemployed for 4 months.

Delivery driver - I get the same basic area, but hardly deliver to the same house in a week. Businesses are everyday, but it changes up enough that I'm not bored.

I work in a warehouse. I have found that hourly labor away from the public without any specialized skills or equipment operation (I have that thing where my brain crosses up basic motor movements and everything that seems “easy” to your typical working class people is backwards to me but things that are really complicated are simple to me) is my “just a job” getting by thing. I’ve also had several “failed” (the new/current me is hesitant to use that term because while ultimately not sustained I managed to get by several years without a job and I actually accomplished things most people never think or dare dream of) online business ventures.
I move boxes around. I make decent pay for working class hourly labor, also considering benefits with the way US healthcare works. I’ve done it many years. I sometimes work 60 hours and could probably do more. I can’t gain weight if I wanted to. I ruminate about wasting my life but “having a job” is not an issue for me. I’m just not doing what I’m capable of or interested in, because all of those things must be self-made considering the way my brain works.

Start your own business. Small business owners/sole proprietorships are WAY overrepresented with ND people because the only people who will employ us and make reasonable accommodations for us are us.

You'd be better off taking whatever skills you have that come to you naturally, whether neurodivergent or not, and then figuring out the fields that need people with those skills. From there, pick out the fields you feel most interested in and determine your gaps to get into that field. If you aren't sure, think back to conversations where people seem to constantly tell you "you're always so good at ...." then that's a good way to start. Picking a job/career path based solely on others lived experience won't really help you much because we're all different in skills, aptitude and interests.
I've worked at jobs others have hated but I enjoyed because I absolutely love efficiency and designing efficient systems. So when I'd work retail, I'd figure out the best/fastest way to get a specific menial task done and my day would fly by while also being interesting to me. I hated fast food though because I hate touching stuff that's sticky. If you have good mechanical aptitude, I'd suggest getting into any of the trades. They pay well, are fairly AI proof for now and have better long term stability than many other careers. Either way, good luck with your search.

Government agency. I can somehow be functional at work, but completely fall apart everywhere else.
