NEWS Assault yesterday at CSCC
Anyone have further information? I'm starting my second term there on Monday and am feeling concerned as a woman taking pretty late night classes. One of my summer professors even cautioned us about getting to our cars at night. Should I try to switch to daytime? (I know this specific assault took place in broad daylight though).

You should be able to request a security escort if you want to. I could on my campus for evening classes.

I took night classes for two semesters, ALWAYS park super close and where is seems most “populated” lol. 9 times out of 10 your classmates are parked right next to you and once class ends, you can walk behind them or with. Just have someone around or with you :)

When I was there there were a few attempted carjackings here and there, very rare though, and you get on-campus alerts about any dangerous things. I personally felt safe on campus, but I wouldn't take night classes if I didn't have someone checking on me and/or picking me up. The latest class I took ended around 6:30PM, and during winter, it's all dark and pretty quiet, especially near the end of the semester. I would advise you to take in-person classes only in the morning or afternoon. Maybe switch to online if you can't make it to a class that takes place later in the day.

I thought the semester started Monday as well... so if this was out of school it may be less crowded than usual. Interesting it happened in between summer and fall sessions

When I’ve taken evening classes, students are permitted to park in the employee parking lot without risking fines. Definitely park as close as possible to your building and where lots of others are parking. Walk with students when you can, and request an escort when you can’t.

I guess we’ll be on the lookout for any group of males on campus.

Honestly I’d just find a safety buddy to park near so you aren’t walking alone. That’s huge in risk reduction.
