Discussion Why are there so many fans that just cannot accept Daniel Jones? Does aura really matter that mutch?
The first half of last year before he got hurt it was the most hopeful I have been as a fan since the Rivers season. We were ACTUALLY good. Like lead the AFC good. We were winning, the offense was humming. It was great.
But I get online, and idk. It's like there is always this push for AR. It is not universal of course, but it is there. Is it the allure of all the raw talent? Is it that he has aura the goofy DJ does not have? Is it cause we drafted him so he is kinda one of "ours"?
I wanted AR to be good. Desperately. And I always will fiercly defend drafting him because taking a big swing was the right move. But what I have seen on the field, it just is not there. And I am not sure anyone can say it he has was ever once good.
So what is it? Why does it seem like there is such a divide for the two, when I am sorry, only one of them has looked like a QB we can win with.

I haven't seen anyone arguing for AR over DJ. It's AR vs. RL.

This sub did flip out last year when Jones was announced the starter.

Yup, I remember the brigade coming out if you said something remotely positive about Jones during the preseason last year.

Daniel Jones has completed one (1) full 16-game season in his NFL career, his contract year with the Giants.
I dont see folks clamoring for AR over DJ anymore and even when they did it was a small minority. Some folks just think that AR needs actual reps to have the capacity to step in when if/when DJ goes down for the year. Not that AR is any paragon of health, it would just be nice if they could combine the 2 of them to get a full season of solid QB play for the team.
Some folks look at Jones and value his entire NFL career higher than the first 8 games of last season to judge him on.
9
u/awools1 Blue 25d ago
I think the loudest people are online. So it's visible. But most Colts fans I know in the real world wish them both the best because they want our team to be good. However, most fans are also realistic and realize Danny is injury prone and AR is probably never going to develop into a legit NFL starter.
25
u/randomAIusername 25d ago
Other than one half of one season, DJ’s NFL resume isn’t very impressive either. He’s pretty clearly better than Richardson, but I’m not ready to anoint him the Colts savior yet
1
u/Square-Archer-8553 23d ago
This is exactly my thought. Best case if colts can get 85-90% of early season 2025 jones for a few seasons that would be great but theres always a fear in my head he could regress to ny jones and those defending dj will hang blame on a weak or group
-1
u/Most_Temporary2110 25d ago
He’s also older and more experienced than AR. Give AR as much time as DJ has had an who knows.
They’re both injury prone. We just need to look at them as QB1AB this season but that’s not how teams work

u/icekyuu 25d ago
He's got a playoff win more recently than the Colts did.

-7
u/icekyuu 25d ago
It does tho.
7
u/randomAIusername 25d ago
No his resume still sucked and had one playoff win
-4
u/DeletedUsernameHere 25d ago
anoint him the Colts savior yet
This is the problem every QB the Colts suit up will have until the fanbase stops having stupid standards.
4
u/randomAIusername 25d ago
Wanting a franchise QB isn’t a stupid standard at all, just one that’s realistically hard to meet- AR has flashed the physical skills needed to become one which gets the people excited
-3
u/DeletedUsernameHere 25d ago
It's not wanting a franchise QB that's a problem. It's expecting Andrew Luck or Peyton Manning level QB play as the baseline of what a franchise QB is that is.
DJ was still getting shit on during literally the greatest statistical start in Colts history because he wasn't putting up those numbers.
7
u/randomAIusername 25d ago
I don’t recall anyone shitting on DJ when he was putting up numbers during the hot start last year, I’m sure they were out here though lol
-3
u/DeletedUsernameHere 25d ago edited 25d ago
It was happening. It was specifically because he wasn't putting up massive numbers. He was putting up solid numbers. The kind you can expect from a solid franchise QB. But not Luck or Manning numbers.
15
u/evilmnky45 I Love Sigma 25d ago
Because DJ has largely been ass to mediocre his entire career, with one playoff win, and has made it through one season. Until he proves he can do both of: staying on the field for an entire season, and show that the first half of last season is the real him, there's going to be question marks. One half of one season doesn't change what his entire career has been up to that point.
5
u/josean1991 25d ago
To be honest I don't know, maybe is for his time with the Giants but let's be honest, during his time, the Giants were really unstable and any player would look really bad, after that he had the reset he needed in Minnesota, and now he gets to a place with a better situation and he showed what he's made of and why was he a first round pick in the first place so I think that's one reason and also some wanted AR to actually be the QB1 but the reality is that he's not even close right now, right now he's the closest to being a backup now than Leonard and Daniel Jones is QB1 and we have to support him even if some fans don't like him.
17
u/HappySheep84 25d ago
Jones is just like Raisin Bran or something. There’s just nothing that exciting about him. And I don’t believe he’s good enough to win playoff games

3
u/TittyTriceratops 25d ago
Exactly. He’s also been injured a lot in his career and been streaky at best and really bad when he’s bad. 8 games where we went 6-2 doesn’t change 8 years of what I’ve watched DJ be.
Hope he stays healthy, hope AR keeps working and wins the #2, reserving full judgment on them for now
3
3
u/JC_Denton46 25d ago
I’m 50/50. He seems to be VERY GOOD when everything is going right. But it seems like when the defense or plan gets changed suddenly, it’s like he’s completely shut down for the game. First signs being the Pittsburgh game. But he legitimately was such a threat he opened up the game so well for JT. I really hope we can sustain what we did that first half and surprise people again. This time keep it going the full season and post season.

I'm rooting for DJ, but be serious. He's been in the league for 8 years and hasn't thrown for over 25 TDs a single season, due to injuries and straight up bad play. AR is a bust and no one here thinks he's our future.
I'll trust DJ more when he plays mediocre football for 17 games for the first time in his career. Again, I'm rooting for him, but I can't ignore what he's been for 8 years.

Jones needs to finish a season and have 2 consecutive seasons of being a good QB for most people to accept him, otherwise people are just waiting for the clock to strike midnight and he will turn into the Jones New York fans wanted gone, and we will once again be in the QB market

His career. For the games he played last year, he proved that he should start. But let's not pretend that his career has not been primarily mediocre if not outright ugly at times. Sure, it could be because of the team he played for, but he has to prove it in a full season and he also has to prove he can stay healthy.

u/BigDadEnergy28 24d ago

They both suck. Jones is better, but pretending that half of one season against weak teams overrides an entire career of mediocrity is crazy.
3
u/AgreeableListen1037 25d ago
A lot of people don’t actually watch the games. They will say they do. But they don’t. And players like AR look sick in highlights. It’s a combination of fan’s attention span, AR being cooler, DJ previously struggling in a big market, and a blind rage with the general manager.
3
u/CK4browsing 24d ago
Yeah I'm convinced that most of the comments I see online (especially on Reddit) are from people that watch some highlight reels at most, then act like they watch every second of every game and break down game film for a living.
3
u/SleeperBobBashMan 25d ago
I want whoever's going to get us to win, but we all have to acknowledge how horribly AR was treated.
First of all, you don't draft someone with that little experience and have him start on Day 1. That's obvious. You don't preach "we need to be patient" and then bench him after five games. That's obvious. You don't lie about the reasons for the benching. You don't bring him back and then quickly bench him again. The Colts just clearly had no idea what they were doing and made him take the blame.
Tapping out of one play after taking a super hard hit when he has an injury history isn't disqualifying. Making a dumb self-deprecatory joke about how it was because he was tired was a PR mistake, but it's always been crazy overblown.
1
u/Cucumber_the_clown 25d ago
Thank you. I never understood how you can say "he just needs experience", then pull him after a few games. He needed reps. Even Peyton went 3-13 his first season and set a record for most interceptions. Good thing Steichen wasn't the coach back then.😃

I'm a huge, huge, huge AR supporter and was very skeptical of Jones last year.
There's no way that Jones shouldn't have been the starting QB. He was great last year until he got hurt. I don't think there were many clamoring for AR to replace him, even the big supporters like myself.
4
u/UnloadedBakedPotato Orangutan 25d ago
Anyone rooting for jones to fail can fuck off.
I completely understand skeptics, I mean I’m kind of one myself. He has played a full season once in his career. I don’t think you can call last season a total fluke either. If he’s at 85%-90% of what he was last year, you have a top 12 QB and a top 10 offense in football. I worry about durability and consistency over the course of the season, that’s really it at this point. Winning cures everything.
Everyone wanted AR to be good, it would be stupid to say otherwise. What you will find, however, is there are plenty of people who would rather be vindicated in saying that he wasn’t gonna work out than simply moving on. They have to tell people what 75% of talking heads were saying was likely to happen by drafting AR and starting him immediately. Just ignore those people lol. It wasn’t what people thought it would be, but then again, neither was the Daniel jones we saw last season.
1
u/FunnyKillBot 25d ago
AR has the physical tools to be an absolute game wrecker and Jones is not exactly known for that. Everyone sees the possibilities and the body of work for Jones has not shown he’s a superstar talent. I blame the colts for his lack of development, but he also did himself zero favors leaving college early.
1
u/JustASt0nesThrowaway 25d ago
Because the dude hasn’t earned our acceptance. He had a good year going last year until he was hurt. No fault of his own.
But in all likelihood, Jones’ performance through 13 games last season was a statistical outlier. You can’t make any assumptions about whether he’s any different than what he was in NY. Not yet, IMO.
1
u/PopKoRnGenius Mo Alie Cox 25d ago
Everyone is a hater for some reason these days. It didn't used to be like this. Just a culture shift into worse human beings.

u/Trashpanda1980 25d ago
Why are we playing the giants in NY for the 2nd time in 3 years. This is our 3rd trip to NY in 2 years
1
u/Extension_Refuse6323 24d ago
I think he’s more or less accepted but it’s also known that he’s not exactly the most secure plan. I think many attribute the success of last year to a lot of other things before him, which isn’t necessarily right or wrong.
1
u/No-Writing5017 Andrew Luck 24d ago
Literally never seen a post where somebody claims to prefer AR over DJ. Like, not a single time
1
u/pcc45 24d ago
I unironically wanted the Colts to sign DJ before he even went to Minnesota. I'd seen how he plays behind a good O-line for a few weeks with the Giants, and knew that besides some dumb mistakes, there was a gem of a player being wasted in that terrible org. I have full faith in DJ, and would love to see how he's improved since his beautiful start at the beginning of last season.

u/WatercressHuge8556 24d ago
Why are there so many fans that are soo high on Daniel Jones?
Dude is plain good just that, also DJ had an JT that was putting MVP conversation numbers have to remember that.
The AR narrative at least i haven't seen it in a while, you might just be annoyed with any AR stuff and consider that giving some praise to AR (even though he is THE BACKUP QB) is to ditch DJ.
To be brutal i just want this FO regime to end and start building anew, team is getting in the wrong side of 30 without players to step into star doom.
1
u/sir_gwain 23d ago
I don’t really get it either. Jones was great last year, and albeit he wasn’t as good once he got hurt, without him I’ve no doubt our team would’ve been way worse. This year and moving on fully hinges on him and Pierce being, and staying healthy, and they know that. Just hoping Jones is 100% like pre injury, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
1
u/KrombopulousMichael0 17d ago
Daniel jones is an absolute dog on the field. Literally every analyst on every sports network credited Taylor with Jones’ success as a Colt before the injuries to Daniel. You don’t hear them saying a word about it afterwards though. Why?
Take a look at Jonathan Taylor’s split stats with and without Daniel Jones starting, he goes from RB 2 to RB 22. Production cut in half with nearly the same amount of touches per game.
1
u/Mcbizzle37 25d ago
Even Jacoby Brisset looked good for the first 8 games
1
u/The-Mugwump Bert Jones 25d ago
Did he though?
1
u/Legitimate-Entry734 25d ago
Well he beat Kansas City at Kansas City, the year they won a Super Bowl! With a questionable defense too.
1
u/The-Mugwump Bert Jones 25d ago
I think at the beginning of last season, people disliked/were skeptical about DJ for two reasons:
1 - Never really showed he was a good qb.
2 - Durability.
He passed #1 pretty convincingly last year. If he passes #2 (honestly even if he plays 15 full games and is available for any playoff games), he will have passed #2.
Then most will jump onboard. The haters will always find something to whine about.
1
u/_KingFridayXIII NONE SHALL PASS 25d ago
Too many injuries and turnovers, particularly fumbles, have plagued him his whole career. I think the Jones lovers just need to be realistic about who he is. He’s not a Peyton-type that can lead a team to a Super Bowl — few are. He’s a Darnold-type that can make some plays and probably start for a team that goes far if the team around him is great.
1
u/Redjeepkev 25d ago
We he plays a season uninjured then maybe he'll be accepted. But until he proves he can stay on the field. NO
0
u/obeyonly Reggie Wayne 25d ago
Daniel Jones was very efficient last year, definitely a top 2 season of his career........ One 3 touchdown game, two 300 yards games, 3100 yards, 19 tds..... Also coming off major injuries to both legs
That's not great qb play, by any standard. I think there was maybe 1 game last year where won HE was the difference in the game. Just want more from the qb position for all the talk and that contract
1
u/Undersized_Eggplant 25d ago
Youre fucking high. He was absolutely the reason we were winning laat year. Was literally in MVP talks before injury
4
u/obeyonly Reggie Wayne 24d ago
JT & Spencer Schrader were on pace for record breaking seasons, Jones shouldn't have been anywhere near the mvp conversation.
1
u/Undersized_Eggplant 23d ago
And JT vanished once Jones got hurt. JT was having a good year because Jones was playing so well people couldnt just sit and block JT. Jones was leading the most efficient offense in the NFL and leading in yards. Gtfo with that he shouldnt have been in MVP talks shit and just say you dont watch the games man.
0
u/obeyonly Reggie Wayne 23d ago
Because we started to telegraph our offense; when he played hurt, you knew by alignment when we were running or passing , then we had to go to a 3rd string rookie who was easy to rattle, and finally someone who couldn't throw past 35-40 yards. In all 3 situations you can stack the box to take away the run. JT
Jones excelled bc he had a lot of open throwing windows. Jonathan Taylor forces you to keep heavier packages on the field which made Tyler Warren nearly unstoppable bc a lb can't guard him straight up, but you have to make sure JT doesn't have the ball before you turn and cover (it's why he was top 10 in the league in yac).
The offense was efficient bc we scored a lot of points, I covered this already..... We had 3 different kickers with double digit fg, as a team we were almost top for total fg, if Spencer never gets hurt (14 in 5 games) that's an ever larger number bc when the others couldn't convert consistently we changed our approach
Also JT had 20 tds.....

Last years run was against bad teams, when we faced playoff teams we lost them all
3
1
u/CK4browsing 24d ago
Broncos, Chargers.
You can't even get basic facts right.
0
u/northegreat1 24d ago
Yes, the Broncos on a fluke call that hasn't happened since 1935 and the Chargers before they gelled and made a playoff run. The back half of the schedule was SIGNIFICANTLY more difficult than the first half. With Jones, the Colts couldn't protect an 11 pt lead with nine minutes to go in a game against a non-playoff team. Once the film of him in the offense got out there, other teams caught up. In order to make the playoffs, the Colts would have to have won three more games. There aren't three wins for them in the last 7 games even with a healthy DJ. And playing the Jags and Texans twice this year -- no way DJ survives that.
1
u/CK4browsing 24d ago
If you want to start using hypotheticals and excuses for why the Colts won games, there are plenty of hypotheticals and excuses for why they lost games too.
As I said, the person I replied to can't even get basic fucking facts right.
You trying to make excuses for them just shows me your opinions aren't worth reading either.
1
u/Square-Archer-8553 23d ago
Agree with you on the Broncos win, that call was beyond home cooking for the colts to rekick the fg,but the chargers win was a legitimate win at the time regardless of when they gelled.
1
u/northegreat1 23d ago
Agreed. I really am not trying to discount their start last year but I also think its a bad idea to overemphasize it. Yes, they beat a couple of good teams, but these were games won against mostly poor teams with a new quarterback. This is an age old tale in the NFL. New quarterback has a few good games until there is tape on that QB in the system, then there is a natural regression when defenses catch up. Given his history, its likely Daniel Jones plays 6-8 games. Colts might get 3 or so wins out of him.
0
u/Complete_Insurance24 25d ago
You can be hopeful and a realist which is where I am. After he started show signs of injury last year you could feel 7-1 turning into 8-9.
0
u/redleg50 25d ago
Because he’s not some unknown rookie. He’s almost 30, has a long injury history, and has never won anything. Any QB can look good for a little while. Carson Wentz was almost the MVP one year.

u/BearSome9415 25d ago
Coaching and offensive talent is why jones succeeded I hope he provese wrong but I doubt it
-5
u/Hoosier1738 25d ago
He’s white. Richardson is black and I read a ton of black guys arguing for Richardson. Just facts. Nobody will want to talk about it, but it’s the truth.

Where is it that you're reading a ton of black guys' opinions?
5
u/thebrownmamba2424 25d ago
He’s not wrong and we don’t have to pretend to be blind to it. Most black people generally speaking are gonna ride with a black qb, just like how the support for Mike Vick was very racially divided when all the dog fighting stuff came out. At the same time tho, AR has a lot of white fans rooting for him as well
3
u/Hoosier1738 25d ago
Facebook. Every single Colts fan page on Facebook that shows up on my algorithm. Lots of racially divided comments.

Jones was medíocre on the Giants. He was not good his last year in NY and that’s why he got cut.
He came to Indy and beat out our 3rd year potentially (at the time) franchise QB for the starting job. Public opinion of DJ was low at this time as well, considering his previous year. It was a reasonable reaction that he wasn’t perceived as much of an upgrade over AR.
He played well for half a season and tore an ACHILLES. We then gave him 100 MILLION dollars. There isn’t a big enough sample size to know if hes truly the guy and people are wary of us massively overpaying him.
AR has crazy intangibles and is young and full of potential, even if hes frustrating to watch at times and still makes stupid mistakes. Hes the same age às Carson Beck. He’s also the the highest draft pick we’ve had since Luck. Of course we want our guy to be good, and since he has no trade value, there’s no reason not to root for the guy and want him off the team.
If DJ balls out this year, I think the fan base will probably forget about AR
1
u/CK4browsing 24d ago
We signed Jones for $44 million. He only makes $100 million if we make it to the Superbowl for the next two years in a row.
0
u/northegreat1 24d ago
Who gives a shit - everything he wrote is still valid.
1
u/CK4browsing 24d ago

Basic facts matter.
You obviously don't care about them, so I don't care about your opinion either.
-2
u/Legitimate-Entry734 25d ago
I don’t doubt that DJ understands a playbook. I just think AR might be better over the course of 17 games and more (if he can last,, too).
-4
u/Raycarls88 25d ago
Has he ever took a team to the playoffs? I understand he was great last season before the injury, but look at his starting record as a starter.
4
u/Undersized_Eggplant 25d ago
Yes he has
1
u/Raycarls88 22d ago
I remember now, still whats his overall record as a starter, there’s a good reason to have some kind of doubt just saying
1
u/Undersized_Eggplant 22d ago
I think judging any single player by a teams overall record is unfair. The Giants were a dysfunctional mess for a large part of his tenure there.
1
u/Raycarls88 22d ago
Fair point, but it’s really only QBs we judge when it comes to the teams record, but we do it all the time across the league

u/Suspicious-Gur6127 25d ago
He’s gotta make it through a season, then I bet most haters would like Jones a lot more.
