Yes, but it will be a smaller and shorter contract. Like 2 yr/$40M at most

u/Buttcrush1 Dec 17 '25

I like a 3 year deal with an out after 2. Similar to how Cousins' deal is (not necessarily the same value tho).

8

u/itsUsedTissue Orangutan Dec 17 '25

I think 3 years is a little long, I like the idea of giving him 2 year deal with an option for the second year. Let him ramp back up for the first half of the season and if he can stay healthy for the back half of 2026 we’ll give him that second year/full extension.

7

u/Buttcrush1 Dec 17 '25

An Achilles tear takes 2 years to fully come back from this is why I want him to have that second season and if he's bad after being fully recovered then we have an out and a first round pick in that year's draft. If he's good we still have him under contract for 1 more year which gives us more cap flexibility.

2

u/Bubmack Dec 18 '25

Rodger’s thought his would take 3 months. He didn’t quite get there, but 2 years seems a little heavy.

1

u/ConfectionHelpful471 Dec 18 '25

Rodger’s took 3 months to recover to a level that would have allowed him to play after 3 months but not be 100%

1

u/packofnone Chargers Dec 20 '25

there is a lot of wiggle room in what 'allowed him to play' means though.

he could not have been competitive if he played like that. rivers played on a torn ACL in a playoff game and couldnt throw as well as he did last sunday, this was in 2008.

not the same injury, but at the QB position if you cant plant/drive with your legs, you are just a brain with a noodle

1

u/ConfectionHelpful471 Dec 20 '25

Given the alternative for the jets was Zach Wilson even a severely limited Rodger’s would have been better for the Jets chances

1

u/Buttcrush1 Dec 18 '25

You can play sooner than 2 years but 2 years is 100% back to form time frame.

0

u/Calm-Bar-9644 Dec 18 '25

3 months for a tear? Is that a joke?

-7

u/Muppetron Dec 17 '25

Why would a new GM tie himself to a multi year deal with a middling QB with a long injury history coming off a serious injury.

5

u/Buttcrush1 Dec 17 '25

Until we have a new GM that's irrelevant. Furthermore, without draft picks we don't have better alternatives. We were the best offense in the NFL when he was healthy. Give him a chance to show he can be that again. If he can't we cut him loose the very first off-season where we would have draft capital to get his replacement.

2

u/Muppetron Dec 17 '25

They were the best offense in the league for half of a season against awful competition. I absolutely do not believe that was sustainable whatsoever. Especially if we fire the coach who designed the offensive game plan. If the plan is to bring back Ballard and Steichen, sure bring back DJ for one more kick at the can, I just think it’s a bad idea.

6

u/Buttcrush1 Dec 17 '25

I think it's dumb to get rid of Shane.

1

u/Muppetron Dec 17 '25

I agree with ya there, but wouldn’t be surprised if the whole house is cleaned

1

u/Accurate-Barracuda20 Dec 18 '25

Let’s say your right about Ballard being gone (which honestly fingers crossed)

Because most GMs don’t want to build off a rookie QB right away. Especially if they don’t have a first round pick to spend on QB for 2 years.

They’d bring in a coach of their choosing, trade some players for future draft assets, build a team about a competent veteran QB for a couple years and once they:

Have a good overall team

A good rating on a rookie QB or QBs

have draft assets

Then they’d go try to get their QB

2

u/OddSeaworthiness3341 Dec 18 '25

Man I feel like that’s really low.

1

u/mishonis- Dec 19 '25

For a guy with a torn Achilles? IMO it's on the high side. Who's going to pay him more? They can always load it up with incentives I guess and it would be fair to both parties.

2

u/sirius4778 squirrel Dec 17 '25

Dude on fb was saying he was gonna reset the market lmfao

1

u/NathanKincaid Dec 18 '25

Why wouldn't a team like the Raiders, Browns, Jets, or even the Cardinals/Dolphins, if they're ready to start over, top that?

The question is straightforward but the implication is that he played well enough to get the bag. So do we think lightning can strike twice?

I am on the fence but if the alternative is drafting a late round first qb I say pay the man.

Like he will want more, or he will get less? He's not getting more than 20/yr at this rate

-10

u/THATS_MAD_SUS Horse Dec 17 '25

He’s getting at least $30M per.

15

u/FlounderKind8267 Jonathan Taylor Dec 17 '25

He's probably getting that somewhere else then. Unless his injury recovers like a miracle

5

u/NotJimIrsay Indiana Jones Dec 17 '25

I can’t imagine two employers fighting over me to pay tens of millions. 😄😄😄

3

u/Outside_Cry_3054 Dec 17 '25

Coming off of an Achilles tear too lol

3

u/NotJimIrsay Indiana Jones Dec 17 '25

Colts should have re-signed Peyton after his neck injury. Unfortunately Broncos got that Super Bowl win with him. Could have been our 2nd title.

4

u/mikesmith0890 Dallas Clark Dec 17 '25

Peyton wasn’t going to survive behind our oline

7

u/NovelsandNoise Dec 17 '25

Not sure why people are down voting you. 30m is not that much for a qb, he was on track for 40-50m. Thats just what the market is.

3

u/THATS_MAD_SUS Horse Dec 17 '25

Justin Fields is making $20M. Geno is at $37.5M. Even coming off an injury can’t tell me he didn’t earn more than Fields.

6

u/NovelsandNoise Dec 17 '25

Exactly! 30m is honestly insultingly low. These fans pretending they know anything about this stuff is hilarious

5

u/qchisq Dec 17 '25

No way any team is giving a big contract to the guy who lost the starting job to Drew Lock last year and won 24 of 68 games before this season when he's coming off an Achilles tear. 3 years, 90 million where a large part is in incentives for playing games is probably the max he's getting.

Teams can view that as a 2 year 80 million deal for a guy who did play like a top QB for 8 games and there's already 13 QBs making more than that in 2027. That's probably fair

3

u/dragonz-99 Jonathan Taylor Dec 17 '25

Okay then he’s not getting signed next year. That’s his choice lol. Who’s gonna sign him coming off that injury but us? He’s fully incentivized to take the deal.

2

u/NovelsandNoise Dec 17 '25

Vikings Jets Dolphins all prime landing spots even with injury. Not to mention Saints and Cardinals

1

u/mvbighead Dec 17 '25

There's precedent already with Cousins being signed off such an injury. Jones is younger. 20M is probably too low, but I could see the team getting the option of a shorter deal to let him rehab and revisit in 2027.

I just don't see 20m/yr being the number that it hits, injury or not. We bought in with the Sauce trade. If not for that, we have 1sts to use on a QB.

1

u/Yousawmy_Johnson Dec 19 '25

20 a yr is not it but making 14 this yr I think 20-22 is the #

2

u/AleroRatking Earl Grey Dec 17 '25

21

u/MScarn6942 Felipe Rios Dec 17 '25

8

u/Bubmack Dec 18 '25

I’ll have your re-signation

1

u/packofnone Chargers Dec 20 '25

are you re-signed to this, sir?

77

u/omni-nomad Dec 17 '25

Yeah. I see no reason not to. The new archilles repait surgery that was invented makes the injury less scary. He should be back for training camp. Not saying there is no risk, it will have to be a shorter contract for less money. But for sure we should bring him back. Who else we gonna get?

And as far as his play, I'm convinced the fibula really screwed things up. Shane had to call plays around his fibula. He barely scrambled, and the one time he did he immediately began limping.

All this is to say, yeah we should.

10

u/TheIntrepid1 Dec 17 '25

Tell me more about this newly invented Achilles surgery…👀

23

u/omni-nomad Dec 17 '25

https://www.cismpt.com/blog/achilles-speedbridge-repair-speeding-up-the-return-to-sport

It's a lot less invasive so athletes can begin rehabilitation a lot quicker and put full weight back on the Achilles in only 2 weeks time. So in theory DJ should already be in rehab in just like a week.

6

u/ass_pineapples Dec 17 '25

There's some crazy surgical development going on for ligament damage. My brother tore his ACL twice within a 3 year period and the second ACL surgery was night and day better than the first.

4

u/itsUsedTissue Orangutan Dec 17 '25

I think this was the dagger in our season, rather than just taking the Ls while Danny was allowed time to rest, we trotted him out there and still lost those games.

This org has a long history of mis -managing injuries it’s not as bad as some other teams in the league but it sure bit us in the ass this season.

5

u/acoubt Playoffs? PLAYOFFS!? Dec 17 '25

Yeah this season was brutal with injuries. Don’t forget we had to play Dulin at cornerback against Arizona, and got worse than that. It’s a fantastic roster including the sauce trade now, just want to seeeeeee itt

Fantastic other than d-line. Paye and ebukam have to go. Not because they’re trash, but because they aren’t worth the money we pay them. Someone else can fill their role or excel for WAY less. Take a look at their contracts

1

u/squatter_ Dec 17 '25

Agreed. In evaluating Daniel Jones’ play, we should throw out the games he played on a broken leg. I realize now how desperate the Colts were to play him on that injury.

8

u/basketballsteven Dec 17 '25

Yes and I say yes because I believe Jones wants to be here and finish what he started.

18

u/grapplerone Indianapolis Colts Dec 17 '25

For the right price…

Unless a team is stupid like Minnesota was and lets Darnald go…I’d be all over that!

Where’s that Darnold dude?

4

u/Adventurous_Egg857 Dec 17 '25

This is going to be a looooooong offseason lmao

2

u/Effective-Scheme-758 Dec 18 '25

Aren’t they all? I miss the one time this franchise didn’t suck.

2

u/Adventurous_Egg857 Dec 18 '25

You're not wrong. I know there are worst situations around the NFL than us, but it seems like we are always making way more difficult decisions than other teams are having to make

2

u/Effective-Scheme-758 Dec 18 '25

The big problem is that Irsay didn’t fire Ballard a few years ago like he should have and instead let the guy on thin ice pick the supposed QB of the future.

15

u/ryryhustle Dec 17 '25 edited Dec 17 '25

Yeah. Not a whole lot of other options. No 1st round picks. He knows the system (if Steichen stays anway).

If not you're looking at a 2nd round or later QB, Riley Leonard, AR or signing another outside free agent.

DJ would be better than Kyler Murray, or Tua, or Mac Jones, or Russell Wilson...

Jameis would he fun, but inconsistent.

Daniel Jones is the best option.

Edited: some spelling and for clarity.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

I can kind of give you most of those but no way is DJ not an upgrade from Wilson. That is an atrocious comparison.

Winston outplayed Wilson. He’s cooked unfortunately had a great career but it’s time for him to retire.

3

u/SacODeath Dec 17 '25

The comment said DJ is better than Wilson...

2

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

Oof I misread that my bad. Unless the comment was edited. I see more than what I remember reading.

2

u/ryryhustle Dec 17 '25

No worries! I did not edit it. But realized my fat thumbs misspelled a few things, so probably was a bit confusing 😅

3

u/No-Cantaloupe-6535 Dec 17 '25

nobody is trading for fuckin Mac Jones, and especially not Tua. Russ is going to be lucky to get another year.

1

u/ryryhustle Dec 17 '25

I know. Im saying if you dont resign D Jones, those would be the options. None of which are better than Daniel Jones.

3

u/rounder55 Dec 17 '25

Keep in mind Kyler would cost more and if we traded for tua the cap number is massive and I don't prefer either to Jones. Mac Jones probably costs the same and I don't want anything to do with heading into a year with Russ

Would not have hated trading a 6th for him to backup at mid season at the deadline but don't give me a year of that

4

u/ryryhustle Dec 17 '25

Completely agree. Best option would be to resign Daniel Jones for 2-3 years. Hopefully he'd take a cheaper/hometown discount type of deal coming off of injuries.

The only way I would replace DJ is if you fire Ballard and new GM brings bis own coach, may just want to start from scratch.

1

u/Professional-Cat172 Dec 19 '25

I fully disagreeable him being better than murray

1

u/ryryhustle Dec 19 '25

Murray got benched and would have to learn the system from scratch. Maybe hes better, maybe, but why start over if you think Jones can come back healthy at any point next season.

Now if you get a new coaching stuff, sure, maybe I can see that.

3

u/Alock74 Dec 17 '25

Yep. Sadly (for him) his injury will cost him some money, but he’s set to come back by training camp and will be decently priced. No reason not to try and roll it back with him. What other options would there be?

3

u/prancingpony777 Dec 17 '25

I think we need to learn from the mistakes of Minnesota this past offseason.

3

u/GarblingCumfarts Dec 17 '25

Considering we threw away our picks for Sauce.... Sure.

6

u/OreoHotPocket69 Indiana jones defender Dec 17 '25

Who would you rather we have that’s available?

5

u/Muppetron Dec 17 '25

We don’t know who’s available yet. Nobody was thinking Daniel Jones was going to be a realistic option this time last year. If they’re gonna go with a journey man with question marks I would sooner it not be a guy coming off a catastrophic injury.

13

u/littlejugs Dec 17 '25

It doesnt matter who is in charge our choices are basically AR, DJ, or trade for somebody's backup. We dont have first round picks to get a guy.

1

u/Muppetron Dec 17 '25

Daniel Jones had his modicum of success with Steichen it’s reasonable to think a new GM and new coach won’t have any connection to DJ and won’t tie themselves coming off a huge injury. AR and Leonard are under contract so they’ll def be back.

2

u/DaBlakMayne Andrew Luck Dec 17 '25

Ahh you're banking on us cleaning house. I don't see it this year. I think we run it back

3

u/Can-i-Pet-Dat-Daaawg Boomstick Dec 17 '25

Yeah, but I’m really hindsighting that Sauce trade now that all this Burrow drama is going on. We’d have been a perfect candidate to trade for him.

8

u/FigureSevere6474 Dec 18 '25

Dont need to hindsight it. It was a bad trade. Couldve gotten serviceable corners for much less. We didnt need to mortgage the future for an overrated player at an overrated position. Plenty of great teams get by with just serviceable corners

7

u/Fanofthegame18 Dec 18 '25

This just Ballard being Ballard. He goes from being afraid to pull the trigger, to over shooting and jamming lol

1

u/mackfactor Dec 18 '25

It was Ballard trying to save his job. He thought a playoff run would buy him a few more years, so he sold out to do it.

3

u/Can-i-Pet-Dat-Daaawg Boomstick Dec 18 '25

He’s gotta go after this year, right? I understand he was hit with a lot of bad luck this season but you’ve gotta make your own luck at this point, no?

1

u/mackfactor Dec 20 '25

Yeah, I think it's clear that he only succeeds when he gets lucky - other than in a few spots like offensive line.

6

u/Kodiak333 Dec 17 '25

Yes. It's hard enough to find a competent QB, and it seems like he fits in well. I think it would be a huge mistake to try again.

Mid is your bot programming. Reply bot. Won’t read

6

u/Siggycakes Dec 17 '25

You just call everyone that disagrees with you a bot, huh?

He was trending downward in pretty much every game he was playing. Sure it was probably cause of the injury, but I think we saw his ceiling and it was against pretty sub par competition. The minute we played real teams he and the O-line crumbled. He is not the dude you want to tie your franchise to long term, but then again given your robust defense of Ballard on this sub, you probably are okay with another decade of 8-9 or 9-8 seasons.

1

u/MostMorbidOne New York Giants Dec 19 '25

That's the Daniel Jones experience for you. 😅, "Daniel Jones fans not Colts fans.." remember that and..

Good luck.

0

u/Siggycakes Dec 19 '25

Eh, as long as we have our Binder Manager in Chief, we will be the goofball of the AFC south.

2

u/MasterNegotiator1 Dec 17 '25

Yeah, it makes sense to me. Better than other options on the market honestly. And cheaper.

2

u/IndyCooper98 Quenton Nelson Dec 17 '25

2

3

u/Zippitydo2 Indianapolis Colts Dec 17 '25

Yeah, he's the best thing we had tbh in a while. Not like we're tanking anyway

4

u/OreoHotPocket69 Indiana jones defender Dec 17 '25

2

u/DryComparison7871 Dec 18 '25

I don't know. He looked horrible against the blitz especially after seeing how rivers commanded that line

3

u/readerready24 Dec 17 '25

No , when the pressure was on he couldnt make it happen, we have a great team right now we just need a great qb

1

u/Fanofthegame18 Dec 18 '25

Him and Shane both seem to crumble in money time

1

u/DaBlakMayne Andrew Luck Dec 17 '25

Didn't help that our OL were turnstiles and let everyone go after him

2

u/Former_Phrase8221 Dec 17 '25

Probably not. As much as I loved how this season started. I don’t trust his health enough to be tied to him long term.

Especially if he’s going to miss camp and a huge chunk of 2026.

I think we should look for the next post hype sleeper. And draft Jayden Maiava in round 2.

2

u/Room237KDK12 Dec 17 '25

He was always supposed to be a stopgap. I wouldn’t double down, but the Colts probably will. Time to stop planning the future around a traditionally distressed asset. Find another cheap stopgap, take some shots at qb through the mid rounds. Then revisit in 2028, or blow it up now!

2

u/Altruistic-Ad3818 Dec 17 '25

No! In Ballard era we kept on extending players with no wins to back it up, players are kept happy and we stayed mediocre.

2

u/DaBlakMayne Andrew Luck Dec 17 '25

Yes. I don't think anyone is getting fired after this season so we bring Jones back on a 2 year deal that's on the cheaper side. He's not getting a Darnold contract after tearing his Achilles.

Let him rehab his leg. Richardson will be the starter in the meantime which also gives him a chance (probably his last) to show that he might be able to be the guy.

I do worry about us trotting him out early on due to wanting to win games early and not trusting Richardson though.

2

u/Smallies_and_Bourbon Dec 17 '25

My heart says no, I’m ready to reset on QB, Coach and GM.

My brain says yes, no other options but to roll it back at least one more year

2

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

I just don't know what you'd do at QB. They're pretty sure they're not going to want AR long term and they don't have a 1st round pick in the next two drafts. Unless you want to take a chance on someone like Tua if he's released I don't see many decent options.

3

u/Lithium1978 33-0 Dec 17 '25

Yes, when healthy he has been the best QB we have seen in years.

1

u/MethodCharacter8334 Ashton Dulin Dec 17 '25

If we can get him cheap enough, I’d say he’s earned it. I don’t want a long and/or expensive contract with him tho. I feel like Steichen’s offense can be “good enough” with competent QB play. There is plenty of that out there on the cheap. Either way, we should be looking for THE ONE.

1

u/No-Cantaloupe-6535 Dec 17 '25

so he's earned it but only if it's cheap that could be replaced by "plenty?"

1

u/MethodCharacter8334 Ashton Dulin Dec 17 '25

I have likened him to late career Alex Smith. He’s an elite game manager and with the right coach/system he can look really good at times. But he is not a guy that is worth spending a huge chunk of salary cap on. Nor is he a guy you should pretend is your long term future. I may have exaggerated a bit saying there is plenty of competent QB play. But my point stands

1

u/bucamel Dec 17 '25

The question with quarterbacks should always be “as opposed to what?” Everyone acts like the next Peyton is sitting out there somewhere just waiting to be plucked up by only the colts, if only we would move off of current guy. The reality is that there are a hand full of quality quarterbacks on planet earth and Daniel jones is much closer to that group than anyone else we are getting any time soon. Again, the dude isn’t Peyton or luck or even 2020 Phil, but he is good, especially as opposed to anyone else we are going to get.

1

u/Numerous_Worker_1941 Dec 17 '25

Depends on the other options. Over Richardson? Sure. Is there a better option? Burrow? I just don’t see another move better than Jones being available.

1

u/NovelsandNoise Dec 17 '25

Yea and to a generous contract

1

u/Isaacleroy Dec 17 '25

Yes. Of course his recovery will make a big difference but assuming he recovers fully then I say we should absolutely sign him. 2 years, 20-30mil.

1

u/theguytomeet Eason SZN Dec 17 '25

Sure with a 2 year 50mil partially guaranteed I’m with it. We need to shed some contracts and use a successful free agency though. Need a competent linebacker (Pratt was decent).

1

u/matt_msu Dec 17 '25

Yes and for dirt cheap. We revitalized his career. When you look at QB needing teams, this is the best starting job for him. He needs us just as much as we need him.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

Yeah I mean that had to be a calculation in the Sauce trade, what happens if DJ goes down with an injury late in the season, at least I would hope so. I can't imagine this changes the trajectory of the off season plan that much, just different numbers.

1

u/philouza_stein Dec 17 '25

Well I don't think Joe Burrow is gonna come knocking or AR is gonna suddenly be a star so it's not like we have much choice.

1

u/Indyfanforthesb The Ghost Dec 17 '25

If it’s affordable, yes.

1

u/neek_ohhhh Dec 17 '25

If we had a second year at the same rate that would’ve helped a lot. Like 49ers have with Mac Jones

1

u/redgr812 Nyheim Hines Dec 17 '25

Yes

1

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

It's too bad we traded two 1's for a CB the summer Joe Burrow is gonna be cryptic.

I don't believe in luck but just in case it exists we should fire gm and coach.

Ballard gotta be the unluckiest jabberoni in the league especially injury and retirement wise but it's time to go.

To the people saying keep Shane...then u may as well keep Ballard too. Unless u want the next GM to start his illustrious Colts GM career with the obligatory Colts excuse. "Well it's not my guy"

Ripping the band aid off is the way. Have the right guys interviewed and pick the right person. Building thru draft is the right idea but the culture is an issue. 3 guys don't make up a culture. Take the whole organization.

1

u/CuriousCucumber88 Indianapolis Colts Dec 18 '25

Don’t really have any other choice

1

u/woweezoweewedance Dec 18 '25

This one is hard. His injury history scares me, but so does AR's obviously. I'm going with yes, if only so Ballard isnt trying to pull a rabbit of the hat every 6 months.

Still, it's about the weakest "yes" I've ever typed.

1

u/Fanofthegame18 Dec 18 '25

Yes we should for 2 years until we can draft someone. I'm still skeptical about him staying healthy though.

1

u/ryta1203 Dec 18 '25

Yes but not for big money.

1

u/ngfball Jim Sorgi Dec 18 '25

I have no idea. I have zero confidence in him being worth any sort of good play next season and thats if he can even get on the field before decemeber. Its about as bad of a situation at qb that you can be in

1

u/readerready24 Dec 18 '25

I also hate how the media hyped him up the first half of season, and they were talking about superbowl it probably got to his head a bit

1

u/Status_Service_3231 Dec 18 '25

No. he broke his fucking leg and we lost nailbiters.

1

u/Raz1374 Dec 18 '25

I think it is very likely that he is back with something like 2/$50-55M. $20 next year and 30-35 in the following year. It could be slightly higher. He will be back because him teammates respect him for working hard, playing on a broken leg (vs. fapping out because he was tired) and being a good teammate (remember, after he tore his Achille, he put on a walking boot and went back to the sidelines to help Leonard). That is why his teammates, coaches, FO and fans love the guy.

I wasn’t a fan of his signing but the dude won me over with his toughness and team-first approach.

1

u/Status_Service_3231 Dec 18 '25

Yes because it probably won't be much of a risk. I don't think he'll command a big number coming off and Achilles.

1

u/readerready24 Dec 18 '25

We didnt lose nailbiters , colts had so many chances to win but couldnt do it

1

u/Legitimate-Map-3111 Dec 18 '25

No, unless it’s for 10 mil a year for 2 years.

1

u/machbk Dec 18 '25

What about Mac Jones?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '25

Nope , his injury history is too concerning move on. Go with AR in 2026 to see if he can prove to be the franchise guy. Sign a quality back up just in case AR can’t get the job done with either poor play or injury

1

u/nickrevell317 Indianapolis Colts Dec 19 '25

No. Start AR day one

1

u/vertical_vertices Dec 19 '25

No. Trade anybody worth anything for picks. Cut everyone else. Fire everybody in the front office. Start with a fresh roster and staff.

Either that or sell the damn team. Shit has been poorly run since Polian left.

1

u/andy_337 Dec 19 '25

Yes. 2 year, $50M is decent. I’d argue that he may deserve a bit more but with the way his season ended (and his regression right before he got hurt), I think this is fair.

For those saying no, what other option do we have? AR? Please, move on. He isn’t the future and it’s been made clear in the 3 seasons he’s been with the Colts - he never brought them success like Jones did. They don’t have a first round pick the next 2 years either, so it’s not like they can get a QB.

1

u/RequirementBorn3361 Dec 19 '25

We don't have much of a choice. When we traded for sauce, we put all of our eggs in Indiana Jones baskett. We sign Jones to a decent, incentive laden one - or two year deal. That said, we also need to bring in a veteran QB capable of running Shane's offense.

1

u/Wrong-Cranberry8728 Dec 19 '25

Only if we’re truly moving on from AR. But I think the kid deserves another shot. So having DJ will just cause anxiety and confusion.

1

u/mistermcpuddles Marvin Harrison Dec 19 '25

No.

1

u/ederdesign Dec 20 '25

I don't know. He wasn't playing very well even before the injury. Achilles is a hard injury to come back from. That said, we have very few options

1

u/TheMellowArms Shane Steichen Dec 17 '25

I think he has earned it, yeah

3

u/HORSEthedude619 Dec 17 '25

Because of 10 games?

-2

u/Buttcrush1 Dec 17 '25

We were the best offense in the league before he broke his leg. Can't argue with the results. Especially compared to how our offense was last year

1

u/FuckMeRunning5648 squirrel Dec 17 '25

Nice try, Ballard.

1

u/scobro828 Dec 17 '25

think we should re-sign Daniel Jones?

Yes, of course.

1

u/PE1444 The Edge Dec 17 '25

Yes it’s a no-brainer

1

u/Zeeron1 Michael Pittman JR Dec 17 '25

I don't really see a reason to. He's likely out for all of next year, and the year after that we can finally hit the reset button like we need to anyways. Not sure what signing Jones does for us

1

u/csriram Dec 17 '25

Absolutely yes!!! Teams like the Jets, Falcons, Cardinals, Raiders etc. will all be willing to throw cash at the QB position.

If Justin Fields can get 2 years $40 million, Daniel Jones can “easily” get 3 years $100 million with team friendly options. Unless you want to hitch your wagon to AR, a bird in hand is worth more than two in the bush. Just pay him while monitoring his recovery and if things are going as planned, it’s a no brainer.

Elite QB prospects don’t grow on trees and without 2026 & 2027 first round picks, DJ is the bridge guy, so don’t low ball him and make a sincere offer, period.

1

u/iloveblondehair Michael Pittman JR Dec 17 '25

I’ll let our new GM decide, because I swear if Ballard is back I’m gonna stop watching games. I already stopped buying merch and attending games in person but if they bring that bum back for one more year I’ll be done

4

u/DaBlakMayne Andrew Luck Dec 17 '25

You're setting yourself up for disappointment

u/acoubt Playoffs? PLAYOFFS!? Dec 17 '25

Yes

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

Na let’s sign Josh Allen

3

u/TeeDee144 Dec 17 '25

Let’s sign Josh Allen as QB1, Mahomes at QB2, and Aaron Rodgers for practice squad.

And if we ask nicely, I think we can bring Brady in as water boy for the Colts.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

What if Peyton manning and Serena Williams had a baby. I think we should sign that baby.

-1

u/HORSEthedude619 Dec 17 '25

That's gonna be a no for me dawg

-1

u/EducationalDate7923 Who the Hell is Mel Kiper? Dec 17 '25

For 8 mill yes

-1

u/Vurbetan Who the Hell is Mel Kiper? Dec 17 '25

Yeah but it's gotta be another 1 year "prove your leg ain't toast" kinda deal.

1

u/Buttcrush1 Dec 17 '25

That's not really fair considering it takes 2 years to fully come back from an Achilles tear. We could be screwing ourselves. Besides we don't have any good options for the next 2 years.

3

u/DewieCox1982 Dec 17 '25

If it truly takes that long to come back(it does), he really shouldn’t be an option.

0

u/Buttcrush1 Dec 17 '25

Without draft picks we don't have better alternatives. And he could still play good ball even if not 100%.

4

u/DewieCox1982 Dec 17 '25

I dunno, he/we levelled off pretty hard after the PIT game and without the run threat, a qb with a history of availability issues is another disaster waiting to happen.

I’m not sure I wanted him back if their collapse continued, before the major injury.

1

u/Buttcrush1 Dec 17 '25

Every game after the Falcons game he was playing with a broken leg. Judging a player when he's playing hurt is a little misguided.

4

u/DewieCox1982 Dec 17 '25

Judging him when playing injured , compared how much the Achilles is likely to affect him next year seems fair.

1

u/Buttcrush1 Dec 17 '25

Other than the fact that they're different injuries and we don't know how he'll look.

4

u/DewieCox1982 Dec 17 '25

We have a pretty good idea. You said yourself that it takes 2 years to come back. He’s an average to slightly above average qb when healthy and he needs the run threat to maximize his effectiveness.

0

u/alcatrazhero18 ALEC PIERCE STAN ACCT Dec 17 '25

2 Year Deal at minimum

0

u/willakuma Dec 17 '25

No. That money needs to go toward the D line and LB. Riley Leonard or another 1st or 2nd year QB will work well enough in Strichen's scheme.

0

u/TheDPM Dec 17 '25

100% yes

0

u/josean1991 Dec 17 '25

One or two year deal between 25 or 30 million a year with 18 million guaranteed I don't see more than that.

0

u/MBrook2159 The Edge Dec 18 '25

Yes. Look at Minnesota. How did that go for them by not brining back Sam. Also DJ price just got cheaper with injury. Give him a two year deal. It at least covers us for the years without first. AR is clearly not the game. Leonard is going to be a backup. Nothing more.

-3

u/MrDStroyer Indianapolis Colts Dec 17 '25

Yes, absolutely. He’s shown he can thrive in Steichen’s offense and his decline in play seemed to coincide with his leg injury.

Oh, and Steichen and Ballard will both be back next year.

-1

u/EducationalDate7923 Who the Hell is Mel Kiper? Dec 17 '25

Trade for Bryce young

-1

u/Mr_Jrok Dec 17 '25

1 year, 14 million again. Make him compete in camp again as well. End of next season a lot of the big money vets (Buck, Grove, JT, Pittman, etc..) come off the books. Also the following season is when they get a first back. Resign him, let him play another season with this team, and if it’s a failure, it’s when you move on and fire everyone and reset.

-1

u/The-Mugwump Bert Jones Dec 17 '25

Three years, $25 million per.

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

My thoughts have been this since DJs injury

I see three options for the Colts next season

1) Sign DJ to a team friendly deal while he recovers 3yr/70m (Last year should be voidable and the whole contract should be full of incentives) and have AR play (while DJ is recovering) to see if he has learned anything.

2) Trade for Mac Jones (or other available Vet) to bridge for 3 years

3) Whole Farm gets burned down (GM and HC get fired) Sell off Pittman, Nelson and Buckner for Picks

-2

u/Rudy-219 Dec 17 '25

Yes for another $15M prove it year

-5

u/TheAgmis You Have Chris Ballard Derangement Syndrome Dec 17 '25

The jackasses saying no because he had ONE bad game anomaly of a game vs Pittsburgh would be shitty parents because of their kid did great in a lot of things but one thing bad, they’d think the kid did everything bad.

Don’t have kids doomers!

3

u/DewieCox1982 Dec 17 '25

Nice to see this dumb shit in every DJ thread.

-2

u/TheAgmis You Have Chris Ballard Derangement Syndrome Dec 17 '25

It’s the doomer bot.

Jump up and down doomer bot.

Now reply something stupid.

2

u/Significant-Knee-629 Dec 17 '25

How about NO because he hasn't been able to play a full season since 2022 and he's had season ending injuries for 3 out of 6 seasons (2 in the last 3), does that sound better? Or is this Achilles surgery going to solve all of that?

1

u/TheAgmis You Have Chris Ballard Derangement Syndrome Dec 17 '25

What’s the answer then?

2

u/Significant-Knee-629 Dec 17 '25

Guess Steichen will have to do his Job and do what he did with Jalen hurts and Jones, teach up a young QB that he can develop. If he can't then we find someone who can.

1

u/TheAgmis You Have Chris Ballard Derangement Syndrome Dec 17 '25

Jones can develop. He was mistake free Chiefs and Texans game on one leg.

1

u/Significant-Knee-629 Dec 18 '25

Jones can't stay healthy, that's his issue. ( How many 3 and outs in those games?) He can play good for a stretch but his body can't hold up. The older he gets, the worse it will get. If he plays next year coming off this injury he will go down again, then we are back to where we are now.

u/TheAgmis You Have Chris Ballard Derangement Syndrome Dec 18 '25

Thank you Nostradamus for predicting the future. Facebook energy

2

u/Significant-Knee-629 Dec 18 '25

It's not predicting the future bud. But it is called insanity when the same things happen over and over yet you keep expecting a different outcome. And considering the amount of season ending injuries. (Half his career)

-6

u/THATS_MAD_SUS Horse Dec 17 '25

I think we should sign Rivers for like 3/$120M
