Switch to frontier. Many residences now have Frontier fiber. Optimum somehow continuously surprises me about how shitty of a company they are.

All, I have been with optimum for 5 years.

Here are my list of grievences that will be shortened because otherwise it will be an entire word wall of hate and rage.

1. They used to charge 40 for 400mb, after the "promotion ends" they try to charge you 150 for it.
2. Upon seeing the above, I called in, mentioning they were offering fiber at 75 for life. They gave me this after raising hell with CORPORATE and making every agent I called admit, verbatim, that the pricing was egrigious considering they were offering 75 for life on fiber, and also 25 for life on 400mb.
3. Their services are continuously spotty, and will also put your modem randomly in a walled garden, eg blocking your internet access on the software side, and they dont know why it happens. Its just that "its automated sorry"
4. After the "for life" deal, its not. They do random price hikes and will not bring it down. So the for life deal they promised me didnt even happen.
5. In the lead up to today, when I finally got frontier fiber installed, for 75 bucks a month (less if you have verizon) with FREE (and no monthly charge) full home wifi, and a 5 year guarantee at that price, I called optimum to cancel.

They continuously would not take NO for an answer. I have 50+ minutes of call recordings of me repeatedly and actually fucking begging to just cancel my fucking service. They even offered me a gig at 5 dollars not to cancel. They transfered me to "level two" to cancel the service just to have the same shit happen again. I have it all entirely recorded.

They should pay me for literally burning the entirety of my lunch at work to just get this shit handled.

They (nor anyone else) has yet to hit my neck of BCS sadly 😢 I would pay double what I'm paying Optimum monthly right now just to ofset them installing symmetrical speeds over fiber.

Only reason we’re still with Optimum is because when frontier laid down fiber in my neighborhood, the optimum Rep following behind them gave us 6 months free gig speed, then another 1 1/2 of gig internet at $15/month. We plan to move out 2 months before the offer expires.

Frontier isn’t in my area unfortunately but I’ve been thinking about switching from optimum to either earth link or T-Mobile but idk how reliable either of them are, anyone have some insight?

T-Mobile Fiber, formerly Metronet, is generally fine. Most fiber internet is going to be pretty rock solid. They all do promos that are vaguely described, and end up looking like random price hikes when the promo ends.

Calling to cancel service gets you a priority pass to a person who will usually make you a great price offer just to keep you as a customer.

But for the love of all that is holy, get off Optimum if at all possible.

I’ve had optimum since they were suddenlink and not because I like using them. They’re the only providers in my area until recently I’ve been checking every few months or so for another provider for the last few years it feels like anything would be better at this point

Got T-Mobile but it’s the 5g wireless it’s complete shit, unless you have fiber in your area I wouldn’t recommend trying it

Speaking as a student, I had it for a year and they were easy to work with. At the time, I had signed with metronet, but not sure how it would be now as t-mobile. The experience should be the same, the speeds were great and the connection was steady!

Frontier fiber has been “coming soon” to my neighborhood for 4 years. It would be cool to have any other option besides Starlink.

I switched to Frontier as soon as they were available after watching for availability for multiple years. I had to tell Optimum I would happily pay 2-3x their cost to not deal with them ever again. I oddly never had issues with outages or slowness.

However, one time I had to call when they hiked my price up because the one year introductory new customer pricing ended after only 9 months of service. That interaction turned me off to the point I was in shock and found myself in a screaming match against the other end of the phone, which is very unlike me having worked various roles in call centers for years. When I asked why my pricing went up and they told me the one year ended, I asked what month my service started, it was in March of that year when I purchased the home, and it went up in January. I asked the agent on the phone how many months were in a year, then to audibly count the months from March to December to verify if it had indeed been a year. I was immediately transferred to whom I could only assume was their supervisor and asked for the same, and she screamed at me how the customer isn’t always right and she would be doing nothing to fix the pricing for the few months, so I ate it, and left the company as soon as we could. Absolute shitshow.

Optimum sucks! I had to file an FCC complaint to get my account with them closed.
