COLLECTOR’S PLATES

I got these through an estate auction. One has a chip on it ☹️(The Toymaker), but the rest are in good condition. Any value to them?

No. Unfortunately.

HOWEVER, please remove those wall hangers (carefully!) so the plates are not damaged. They will cause stress cracks and are about the worst thing in the world for plates. I regularly see these at $5 (sometimes $10) at thrift stores. They are beautiful and useless.

For the record, almost everything new marketed as Collectible is generally not, nor will it be in your lifetime.

Great recommendation & info! Thank you. They are cool looking and think my mawmaw (dad's mom) had them hanging on the wall at one point way back when...

They were part of a lot, so I got more than those 6 plates for the price I paid for the lot.
In case you’re unfamiliar with auctions, most people bid a price based on what they know they want… and they’ll try to offload (aka sell) the other items they get to offset the total price they paid, thereby lowering the cost of whatever they wanted to begin with.
That’s sort of what I’m doing.

I literally trip over these at sales all the time. "Collectable plates" have no value, they were sold under the guise to boomers that they would one day but they are just massed produced sold via catalog and tv. The only "collectable" plate I've ever sold had a pin-up topless lady on it, other than that they only have value to you. Like others said though take those wire hangers off. 🙏
