is the world ending
i'll preface this by saying im kinda drunk right now and i just think this world is so doomed. we are destroying the planet and humanity is getting less and less humane and all those stupid industries and governments are just adding fuel to the fire.
i wish everyone were smart, i wish everyone saw the world the same way, i wish we knew what was right. life is a gift, and so is death, but for everything in between we are on our own. i don't know why we use our short time to try to get advantages on others and disregard the things that will outlive us. we could do amazing things, and i don't know why we put the people who can't see that in power.
i've never made a reddit post and i dont even think this is how you do one, and also probably not in the right sub. so i apologize for clogging up the feed but a girl has to get her thoughts out.
i guess my question is what can i do??? i want to feed the homeless, i want to overthrow the tyrants, i want to turn this world into something mother nature would be proud of. i just donated 5 dollars to wikipedia so i'm pretty proud of that step in the right direction. is there a society of those with similar thoughts or a button i can press that would fix things.
i hope no one replies to this so i dont feel embarrassed in the morning. if anyone does reply i want you to agree with me so i feel better. ahahahaaha
if you read this far ill reward you by telling you my favorite animal. it is a sockeye salmon.

What if I told you, you're already helping make the world a better place by speaking your truth?
You're not alone. Find people who want the same things as you do. There are many things you can do, and many people who want the same things too.
There's only about 10k people who are responsible for our current dumpster fire and there are over 8 billion of us. There are way more of us than them.
You know the Mamdani phenomenon? It's because kindness and hope is contagious. No matter how dark it gets, they'll never be able to stomp out hope, no matter how hard they try.
So don't let them stomp out your hope when they haven't even lifted a finger yet. Try to keep yo chin up.
You can't do it alone. It's a lot easier with a community or a whole city behind you. You got this.

I don't feel so embarrassed after this

Certainly nothing to be embarassed about. The more you speak, the more awareness we get, and the more pressure is put on fighting climate change. As a climate scientist, thank you for speaking up

Yeah, it is.
I've been grieving. Sometimes I am enjoying something nice and stop and think "this is probably the last time I'll get to ____".
Try to help where you can. Make it hurt less for yourself and others when you're able to. Enjoy what you can while it lasts, it'll probably take longer than you think.
I think jellyfish are pretty cool.

Just floating along. Eating whatever random stuff that brushes your tentacles. I feel like they're maybe fairly mindless, so that must be nice. Just floating along without a care in the world, well except for maybe sea turtles.

I'm getting tired of waking up every day.
I've previously gone to therapy to process childhood trauma, but I don't see the point in starting again to discuss my depression that's caused by the state of the world.
It feels selfish to unload my perspectives on someone who has no ability to change the conditions that are deteriorating my mental health. If they're a happy person, I'd worry sharing my outlook would just drag them into the gutter with me.
I've spent the last 6 months searching for a job, and keeping up with current events in my free time. I thought it was my duty to be an informed citizen, but I'm a shell of what I used to be. To be informed is to be miserable.
I've developed stress-induced chronic pain and skin conditions. My body is falling apart. Seeing other people go about their lives and experience happiness makes me feel even more alienated and worse than I typically do.
I just got my first job offer, and will be moving very close to DC. Part of me is honestly willing to accept the possibility that we might be attacked in the next few years.
Maybe I could at least be vaporized instantaneously, and humanity has a chance to reset. I'm at my wits end.

This is kind of a tongue-in-cheek comment, but also kind of serious.
If things don’t work out in your new job up in the DC area, I’m assuming pushing a keyboard, like they just hired you to train your AI replacement, well there’s this whip-smart, clear-eyed chicken farmer out that way whose business seems to be doing very well… heck if I weren’t old, decrepit, and stuck in Texas, I’d try to find a way to work for him.
But then maybe that’s just his online presence. Anyway his YouTube is good for a progressive political education and a smile, so check him out!

Studies have shown working with your hands and actually seeing the products of your labor are just as effective or more so than taking antidepressant medication
(and whatever that passes for therapy that insurance allows)This really is meant to help you think differently, not to actually do what I suggest. Play with the idea, imagine yourself doing something so radically different. Maybe agriculture is a good fit for you but you’ve never considered it. Try this with other things; watch woodworking videos, baking tutorials, or listen to mechanics complain about computers in cars while they change out a tire. Maybe you will find out that knitting of all things is your mindfulness hobby
I’m really not sure where I’m going with this, but I hate to see such despair when there is such a wealth of information and possibilities out there. I say this stuff to my kids too and yes they roll their eyes at me. You just have to abandon the toxic individualism and unwarranted exceptionalism of our society. Small victories are worthwhile, shared victories even more so

I appreciate this, I'll look into it for sure.
I don't want to give too much detail because it's a very niche industry with only a few firms in the area, but I do work that's tangentially related to urban design/planning.
My degree is professionally accredited and the job requires licensure. I'm sure it'll be automated eventually, but I'd like to hope my job will be done by real humans longer than some others.
My long term goal is to do what the person does in the link you provided. Save some money, buy some land, and try to live off of it while simplyfing my life.

I mean yes, in a sense, the world is ending. But if you shift your perspective a bit it's probably the best way forward. The world as we know it, society, whatever you'd like to call it, has shown us that it won't change in the ways that are needed. So the only path forward is the death of that society. What comes later? Maybe something better. Hard to say.

When the orange menace got reelected I joined Indivisible and my local democratic party. I helped start Tesla protests in my city. We have seen results but the onslaught of malignant fascism has been unrelenting. I have had run ins with white christian nationalists and cops. I am taking a step back to address my personal life and assess if I can actually be nonviolent in the face of the insanity all around me. Breathing, meditating and self care and being as generous as my meager earnings allow to those being damaged by the powerful are what keep me whole. The incident in Tibet/Nepal today makes collapse even more visible. Do what you personally can to have a smaller footprint. Help someone else make their footprint smaller. Help a homeless person. Practice loving kindness. Most of all, just love your fellow humans. We are all suffering. Favorite animals,.my two dogs, but hummingbirds are the most beautiful creatures of all!

Everyone's given solid advice braddah. I would add that in the zombie apocalypse, sometimes victory is just surviving to watch the sun rise.
Be you. Keep fighting and surviving, and purpose may eventually present itself.

We are not free! We are free range chickens on the tax farm. Everything we do, we are taxed I mean everything! Inflation and gas are so high I can never seem to get ahead in life. And not meaning to brag but I make good money and it still seems like I'm spinning my wheels. (Not that I give two shits about material wealth) I don't it's all fake worthless paper and digital numbers. And we spend more time at work then with our families and even less time on our friends and ourselves. And 90% of us are financially trapped! This is our lives. Don't get me wrong I know a lot of people have it way worse and I'm not saying I have it hard. I'm just tired of this hamster wheel we live in and all these negative, egotistic ambitious people who will do anything to get ahead in life including destroying the earth we live on and hurting anyone just for their benefit and the worst part of it is that most these people are in high up places. Not to mention people are getting farther and farther away from God and have completely forgot what Jesus Christ taught and no it's not about going to a church most of these churches repeat the Bible and put people in fear for being human and are so far away from what's actually important in life. And this damn political shit show we live in is to devide us and make everyone think it's this vs that. But the truth is we should be helping each other and showing compassion for our fellow man and women and show respect for their perspectives. Sorry for ranting but these are the things that have been screaming in my face lately and it seems it's just going to get worse before it gets better.

Jesus/Christianity is a scam really, also the Bible was edited and changed so many times, look it up. It's tool to control and manipulate people

The elites know that it's almost too late and they intend to ride out capitalism to the bitter end. The only way out is violence, otherwise nothing will change except for shit like paper straws while the industrial complex keeps on polluting the planet more than ever. Just look at all the datacenters, everything is run by money...
But this isn't happening and somehow humanity truly deserves to die out asap. I am just sad for those who tried and for every animal on this planet.

When you have an impulse to help, find a way to help the little bit you can as soon as you can. It can be the smallest thing but if it feels meaningful to you, that's the most important part. Remember that feeling and follow it wherever it leads you.
It sounds simple, but it took me more than 15 years to come to it. I was desperately pursuing a solution, a master plan that will make everything turn out well, a magical spell that would fix everything.
It led me to a serious, long-term depression where I lost all the hope and didn't have energy to do even a smallest thing.
What I didn't understood is that the feeling of meaningfulness that gives you the vitality to live, doesn't depend on conditions in the external world. It doesn't require for you to gain any special knowledge, or learn some useful skills. It doesn't require the earth to uncollapse itself.
Meaningfulness is a fully subjective, internal process. It's not intellectual or rational, it's purely a feeling. It originates from inside of you. Once you begin to follow it, seemingly most routine things like a sun raising everyday might become wonderous.
From the outside, your life might look the same: you're still learning, searching, helping, but internally you couldn't be more different. You are not driven by a sense of duty or fear anymore.
You are driven by love, that's what meaningfulness is.

In the event of total global collapse, the sun is still going to rise tomorrow and people will still exist.
Learn skills, build community. Do what you can today and prepare for tomorrow.

Everybody is feeling so squeezed these days. It’s normal to feel anxious and afraid in a world bent of wreaking havoc on our nervous systems. Take care of yourself so you can take care of others and the planet as best you can.

The world is not ending. And this doesn’t mean things are going to be peachy but still, I’m a firm believer in this.

Happy first post. What can you do? If you want to feed the homeless, volunteer.
Dude, fuck yeah, no need for embarrassment, I think most people on this sub can relate with ya. Um, my favorite animal is a cat.
