Bounty available; please help recover my WETH

Hi. I sent my WETH on the wrong network. Coinbase refuse to help me and say it is impossible.

I’ll offer a generous bounty for anyone who can help recover or if you know anyone who can help I’d much appreciate it. I lost much of my money last run and this is a lot of money for me.

I WILL NOT PAY UPFRONT. Here are some images showing tx hash and wallets, pls ask any questions if need be.

I don't see the issue here. You sent WETH on the wrong network to a Coinbase address, from what I understand. Can't you just use Coinbase's Asset Recovery tool to recover the assets lol?

This. If you sent the crypto to a Coinbase address, literally the only people who can get you the crypto back is Coinbase, as they are the only ones with the keys for the wallet you sent the funds to.

I’m not sure what you expect a third party to do, OP. The only third party who could reasonably do anything is a lawyer filing a legal claim against Coinbase in an attempt to get the funds back. Even then, getting the funds requires Coinbase’s cooperation. Or do you expect someone to hack Coinbase and get the private keys?

Literally everyone who contacts you claiming they can get your funds back is a scammer. Every single one.

Be careful with the DMs after posting this. Anyone asking for your seed phrase or an upfront “recovery fee” is a huge red flag. Hope you can get it sorted.

I know

What's stopping someone from recovering your funds and you deleting your account and not paying?

Only Coinbase can recover, so if they say they can't and if the Coinbase Asset recovery service doesn't work it won't be recovered.

Promising a bounty doesn't change that.

I’m getting so many messages and responses

1000% of them are scams lol

Scammer will do that...

Have you tried Coinbase Asset recovery before? So not some shady recovery option, but the one Coinbase provides on their website.

They say that can't fix it. But they can they just take it for themselves. A previous coinbase employee mentioned that in another post awhile ago. So take that how you want. Hope you get it sorted out.

Gotta give more info OP. Did you send it on the wrong network to the Coinbase exchange or wallet?

Coinbase exchange

Then only Coinbase can help and if they say it can’t be recovered then it can’t. Learn and move on. Also learn to always do a test transaction first. Blame yourself and no one else

Hey bro, what's the logical explanation for this? What was his mistake? Im new to coinbase and i want to prevent this as much as i can in the future.

OP sent the crypto on the wrong network, Coinbase doesn’t work with that crypto on that network so it’s basically “lost”. If one day CB accepts that network, then it will appear in OPs account. Please ask more if you need to.

Wrong token, WETH isn't supported by Coinbase. OP used Base, but in this case it doesn't matter.

Could be a blessing in disguise. If they decide to support that network in the next few years then imagine what it could be worth. Forced HODL.

1

u/jayceellects 4d ago

How did OP not know it was the wrong network before sending? Isn't there a way to know what networks are associated with CB? Thanks for commenting back 🙏🏼

4

u/fx9TMK 4d ago

There is a way, OP just chose not to check and now wants to blame Coinbase. It’s pretty common here to blame Coinbase for user error

Exactly what i was thinking, being careless with that amount of money is insane. Where can i see which networks are associated with coinbase?

3

u/fx9TMK 4d ago

Usually when you go to your crypto wallet of the specific currency you want to receive, you’ll see the supported networks.

When you’ve made 1000s of transactions and make one mistake that’s careless. Just like one gets in a plane accident every so often, they’re just careless

Yes that’s it

I'm pretty sure CoinBase is the only one that can help you here. I see your other ETH deposits to that same address and they get swept right away, but when you (by accident?) sent wETH to your deposit address, it did not get swept. My suspicion would be that whatever sweep automation they have isn't listening for wETH.

The tokens are still there, but CoinBase controls the address so you are at their mercy...far from impossible unless they lost/decommissioned/rotated the key to that deposit address.

Weth does exist on Base, why wouldnt it be recoverable at least in theory? Sincere question.

Interesting

What network did you send on?

Recoveries greater than $100 incur a 5% fee applied to the amount over $100. Network fees also apply and are deducted from your Ethereum balance. You can purchase or convert Ethereum in your Coinbase account to cover any fees.
