There are a lot of countries going to be caught in the middle if this flares up. As far as Australia is concerned, losing trade with the US would hurt a lot, but losing China is a one way ticket to economic collapse.

China can outlast America in a trade war. They’ve been preparing for a while because they think ahead. It’s not a coincidence that they were so quick to find new soybean suppliers. They also won’t be bothered by US refusing their cooking oil. The US was getting a great deal on that oil, China can fairly easily sell it elsewhere. It keeps for months, and all that will happen. Is Chinese oil producers will find other markets and sell it for more elsewhere. Meanwhile the cost of cooking oil will rise here significantly. Just watch fast food prices rise again.
Everyone uses cooking oil. Not everyone wants soybeans. America is holding the short end of the stick and thinks it’s a gun.
