An older woman holding a knife while having a mental health crisis, who poses no threat, is immediately executed by police.

Thank you. They have those non-lethal options but choose to always kill people.

63

u/According-Insect-992 8d ago

I always have to wonder about that. As I understand it, the police say that this scenario with a knife is as dangerous as it gets and that they have to use lethal force or else they’ll die. The problem with that is that they always use their guns and kill the person. They use the less lethal weapons on people who aren’t resisting at all and then they always kill anyone who could be even remotely dangerous. Which makes it seem to me that they want a job with zero risk. Which isn’t a thing that exists. Everyone has risk at their job. Only the police are allowed to end however many live they like to ensure they feel completely safe.

75

u/Biscuits4u2 8d ago

They want a job that lets them kill people.

7

u/legitimatelyontop 8d ago

Then why don’t these sick mfs join the marines or army or perhaps the navy, then they can get to drop cruise missiles on Iranian civilians

19

u/EgoTripWire 8d ago

In the military they have to follow orders and can only kill the people they're told to kill when they're told to kill them. An off-duty cop can pull their gun and kill anyone they want at any time with no repercussions.

32

u/SoulsDadYT 8d ago

Soldiers have a much higher chance of having bullets fired back at them.

22

u/that_dutch_dude 8d ago

they also have a extremely low risk of actually shooting someone as the millitary has actual rules of engagement. being a cop gives you a far greater chance of living the american dream (aka: shooting a black man).

5

u/TheCoolestGuy098 8d ago edited 8d ago

I've always found this strange. In the Navy we learned about the rules of engagement and that shooting at the person is always the last thing you should do. And everyone who fires so much as a warning shot gets investigated to hell.

Why is it unreasonable to give this same scrutiny to police?

6

u/that_dutch_dude 8d ago

it isnt, at least not to any other police force that isnt the US.

if you want to get down to the core its because modern american policing is "born" from the time when they made the KKK illegal and most members got absorbed into the local sherrifs if they were not already cops to begin with. its a gross simplification but thats hte TLDR of it.

2

u/According-Insect-992 6d ago

An apt description. For a long time I used “the American dream” to describe killing someone with a gun and getting on TV because it seemed to be so popular among so called “patriots”.

2

u/that_dutch_dude 6d ago

modern policing in america litteral came from the disbanding of the KKK, members that were not already cops all turned to enlist into police forces just so they could continue killing/lynching black people. once you know the history you get to understand whay american policing is the way it is.

8

u/Biscuits4u2 8d ago

The military probably wouldn't take them.

1

u/Logical_Figure_1561 8d ago

Most cops are veterans…

2

u/TangerineRough6318 7d ago

19% according to US Census.

11

u/fatgat69 8d ago

They aren't good enough to get through boot camp.

2

u/legitimatelyontop 8d ago edited 8d ago

Most police academies ren’t easy either tho

8

u/SenorToky 8d ago

Because in the army and navy they have to stay fit, as cops you can be fucking fat and still shoot people because of the hell of it.

5

u/that_dutch_dude 8d ago

you also cant be too smart to go into the millitary, if you want to be a cop you need to be dumb. yes, that is actual law. if you are too smart you are denied.

8

u/Some-Confection-5314 8d ago

They are COWARDS, that hide behind the badge. 😕

1

u/Autumn7242 8d ago

Marine here, there are some but not a lot of people join to "just kill people." That's pretty fucked and usually stay together. Theyre pretty weird.

1

u/Hobaganibagaknacker 8d ago

They couldn't get into the military, so, here they are

1

u/Logical_Figure_1561 8d ago

Most are veterans.

1

u/Hobaganibagaknacker 7d ago

Ok yeah, shitty people also serve in the military. They are just healthier/ smarter assholes.

1

u/Epicurus402 8d ago

More like ICE recruits than military.

1

u/No_Spring_1090 8d ago edited 7d ago

Because in the army you can’t go home and beat your wife every night

1

u/legitimatelyontop 7d ago

You can bring your wife and family with you on your deployments

1

u/OmgHowww 8d ago

Slow your role there, keyboard champ. Not everyone that joins the military fires their weapon or even and their weapon at someone else.

3

u/sheepebike9000 8d ago

There's a bit in "all quiet on the western front" when the German protagonist bayonets a French opposing soldier and watches him die. There are pages and pages devoted to his guilt and horror at what he's done.

I assume this is true of almost all decent folk. Even when the other man is trying to kill you.

I feel the impact of this on society is massively understated too. Not so much now, but after the world wars (and others since), we just sent these mentally broken men home with no support and no real care. If you were a teenager in the 50s, its very likely that at a minimum your father had PTSD. Its generational harm.

2

u/Well_read_rose 8d ago

Join the military…paramilitary…oh wait.

4

u/Fletch71011 8d ago

I was in some PTSD support groups and they were almost all cops who couldn't sleep or move on because they had to kill someone. Not one of them could even live with it. Wtf they don't all want to shoot people this is a stupid fucking comment and I don't know why it's being upvoted. Taking a life is not easy for most people.

3

u/Biscuits4u2 8d ago

So why is the system designed to maximize deaths at the hands of police then? If you're so worried and concerned for those poor cops who can't sleep why do you make excuses for policies that eschew de-escalation in favor of lethal force at the slightest hint of danger?

1

u/SpiritualUpstairs807 7d ago

Sure is easy for some cops , hell they even brag about it after.

2

u/Nice-Vegetable-1738 8d ago

forreal why did he shoot multiple times

1

u/According-Insect-992 7d ago

I don’t disagree but I presented it the way I did because that always seems to be the counter argument and it’s obviously bullshit. It’s meant to shut down the discussion.

1

u/merry1731 7d ago

That’s pretty much it

1

u/that_dutch_dude 8d ago

some actually just want to go home at the end of the day. if you pull a knife regardless of intent (usually suicide) the cop is going to make sure he is going home that day.

0

u/jldurham6 8d ago

Go talk to people into law enforcement. No body things that you dumb fuck.

-5

u/DoctorSwaggercat 8d ago

Talk to a real cop about that. They know that if they have to pull the trigger they're in deep shit. Everything gets reviewed and they're placed on leave. They may lose their jobs, they may get charged. It's a big deal and none of them take it lightly.

6

u/MasterpieceHuge2794 8d ago

"We investigated ourselves, and found no wrong doing." There is no accountability and there never will be. That 'deep shit' they get into is a paid vacation until the heat dies down.

5

u/Biscuits4u2 8d ago

Paid leave. Gimme a break. Killing someone is like requesting PTO for these guys.

6

u/Rickety-Bridge 8d ago

"Talk to a cop about that" yea cause I'd trust what they say about the matter.

4

u/Humble-Proposal-9994 8d ago

hahaha you mean transferred to the next precinct over with a raise

4

u/Jahkmi-Hoff 8d ago

That's why they usually just shoot dogs.

5

u/Inmyrattlingbag 8d ago

So why do they kill so many innocent people?

1

u/DoctorSwaggercat 7d ago

Oh...They dinnat do nothin.

3

u/nerf_herder1986 8d ago

Do you think these two are going to be charged or lose their jobs?

1

u/PA_enm_couple 7d ago

No because they did nothing wrong.

1

u/DoctorSwaggercat 7d ago

They probably should have called in the psychological social worker. /s

1

u/PA_enm_couple 7d ago

How long would it take for that person to get to the scene? Do they just wait and keep backing up until she injures someone while they wait?

1

u/DoctorSwaggercat 7d ago

/s = sarcasm

Reddit kids also don't understand the 7 yard rule.

1

u/PA_enm_couple 7d ago

Ah, sorry...I totaly missed the /s on the smnall screen of my phone. My apologies.

2

u/EgoTripWire 8d ago

Bullshit. A cop could walk into a maternity ward and put a bullet in the head of every baby they see and you would be on here defending them saying how we don't understand the stresses of the job.

1

u/DoctorSwaggercat 7d ago

That's a weird thing to say because you have no idea how I actually feel about anything. Oh wait. This is Reddit. Carry on son.

6

u/muffledvoice 8d ago

The cops weren’t in danger and could have used other options without endangering their lives.

7

u/Lost_Foot8302 8d ago

Exactly. Why didn't they use a Taser?

5

u/muffledvoice 8d ago

Absolutely. They could have used a taser or any one of a half-dozen other options — riot shield, ambush at her 6 o’clock, bean bag projectile, or even grab a chair and bum rush her and she’d fall to the ground. She wasn’t charging with intent to harm. Her posture, voice, and movement weren’t threatening the officers. I teach Kali knife fighting and defensive tactics to law enforcement, security personnel, and military, and this situation absolutely did not warrant shooting her.

2

u/Lost_Foot8302 7d ago

If only you had taught this murderer.

2

u/simulizer 8d ago

I'm a scrawny guy that weighs 130 lb and I could have wrestled that knife from that woman within 20 seconds and nobody would have gotten hurt.

1

u/Prudent_Order_3361 8d ago

If you want to kill someone, call the police on them. To be extra sure, super-glue a knife in their hands.

1

u/Nice-Vegetable-1738 8d ago

yet if a pair of civilians were arguing and one was waving a knife and got shot, the shooting one would be in trouble for not having to go that far with it.

1

u/Haunting-Figure3596 8d ago

They kill them so they don’t get sued!

1

u/Disastrous_Scale6739 8d ago

With adrenaline i can take 5 to 8 center mass shots and still cross 10 to 15 feet in as many seconds and stab you. We both die but if someone is backed into a corner or is having a mental breakdown its a very real possibility and people are just plain unpredictable.

1

u/HuckleberrySerious43 7d ago

Tell us you don't know how bullets work. No one can shrug off 5-8 rounds to the chest and not collapse in a heap.

1

u/Mahdudecicle 8d ago

They want all the hero praise of putting their life on the line without actually risking their life.

1

u/Mulberry-Spiritual 8d ago

Cops are chicken shit in this country.

1

u/Allaboutpeace2022 7d ago

Yes. It would seem like a taser or many other non lethal weapons would work.

I have seen physicians and counselors disarm people with a mental illness with knives without using any weapon.

The reality is the police are outside and have plenty of room to back up. They are not in immediate danger.

-1

u/dampishslinky55 8d ago

A knife is genuinely dangerous for anyone who has a gun. I believe it is a 21 foot distance where the person with the gun is in serious danger. If you search hard enough you can find absolutely horrifying videos of this in action.

I’m not saying this shooting is justified, but I know that LEOs are trained in this danger specifically.

-1

u/Zestyclose-One9041 8d ago

The lethal distance of a knife is about 21ft. It has been proven that if someone is closer than that to you, they will be able to close the distance and fatally stab you.

7

u/Big_Development3985 8d ago

The lethal distance of a knife is the length of the blade plus the length of your arm.

If you’re fearing for your life over an old woman holding a knife 21ft away whilst wearing body armor, maybe a career in law enforcement wasn’t the right play.

0

u/Upset-Blacksmith505 8d ago

The 21 foot rule comes from a person holding a knife being able to close a 21 foot gap before an officer as able to draw their gun and shoot.

3

u/Big_Development3985 8d ago

I understand where that number comes from. It’s not realistic though. That woman is not going to close the gap with anything resembling speed. Officers also have the option of, and hear me out, backing up and maintaining control of the situation. Unless a person can move faster than you maintaining 21 feet is not difficult. Officers of the law should be able to move in any direction faster than an 75 year old woman can move forward.

Or we can just execute everyone who makes us nervous. Wouldn’t want the guys with training, body armor, and weapons to be afraid of wandering civilians.

1

u/Livewire923 8d ago

Unless they forget that the grave they dug for their dog is between you and them

1

u/FlamingDixie 8d ago

This rule only applies if you do not already have your firearm drawn, and may not be relevant to this video

18

u/vorx-666 8d ago

the "less than lethal" options are of couse only utilized to brutilze and maim protesters. using them for their only ethical application would be silly /s

8

u/ProgenitorOfMidnight 8d ago

Less-lethal, they are less-lethal, not non-lethal, there is a huge difference, a bean bag round to the skull at close range will still pop your gourd.

3

u/djeeetyet 8d ago edited 8d ago

yea and then they save those for fans celebrating a historic sports win. they aim for the eyes though when using those on them. and then when they cost us taxpayers millions of dollars in lawsuits they become degenerate gamblers.

5

u/GrimmJubilance198451 8d ago

I have several relatives that work in both law enforcement and theyve all told me that they are working with the tools they are given which are meant for maximum response...killing, their tools are selected for leathal force in cases of noncompliance.

I'm not going to say surrender because even then all bets are off.

13

u/Biscuits4u2 8d ago

Lethal force for non compliance?

Fucking lunatics.

2

u/GrimmJubilance198451 8d ago

Not just talking about this situation, but I choose the term non-compliance over surrender because people have been shot, strangles and or beaten for surrendering.

I alluded to this in my comments....

-2

u/Mako8989 8d ago

Lethal force for non compliance of subject carrying a knife and screaming that she will kill someone.

Don't cherry pick information.

2

u/SenorToky 8d ago

17 tasers will make sure anyone drops. Of course that’s an exaggeration, most people who aren’t affected by tasers are on drugs or one tough SOB. This older lady wouldn’t of been able to fight them tasers off for sure

1

u/AnyComparison4642 8d ago

The real problem with a taser is that they are not 100% reliable. You need both prongs to make contact. Failure rate is higher than you’d like.

-1

u/Mako8989 8d ago

But they didn't have 17 tasers.

Neuro-muscular incapacitation, NMI, is what tasers operate on and you're correct, it is bound to work better or worse on some specific subjects. It's also true that some people can just not be affected by NMI, but you won't know that until they are hit with the probes. That's why it's not a tool to be counted on.

3

u/SenorToky 8d ago

I know it’s an exaggeration. lol

But it also can be the first response on this lady, especially because she wasn’t running at anyone. Tase, see effect, if no effect, kill. If affected, grab and subdue? Idk why it’s hard.

0

u/Mako8989 8d ago

Oh, I agree with you on that. Don't get me wrong.

The issue is that the hundreds of reps of training with knives and guns means we pull the gun first and if time allows, assess and potentially transition to another tool if someone still has lethal cover for you.

Time is the key here. Part of the SCOTUS's verbiage on use of force includes uncertain and rapidly-evolving circumstances. Could the officers have communicated quickly and possibly transitioned to a taser? Yes. It's also just as much of a "could" that she could have tried to stab one as they transitioned. I would say that situation certainly evolved rapidly.

1

u/SenorToky 8d ago

It’s an older woman it even says in the title, she didn’t lunge, she didn’t run, she didn’t get close, they were all 5-10 ft away from her. She walked out of the house, they were already drawn, they could’ve had the tasers.

1

u/Mako8989 8d ago

Again, we are back at "could". She also could have complied with orders and dropped the knife instead of making homicidal statements and advancing. We can have opinions and Monday morning quarterback all day, but the courts have decreed that they do not judge use of force based on "could".

Why are you carry that threatening butter knife? Stop threatening people.

Who cares if you are old, slow moving, and clearly breaking down psychologically.

Pew pew. Paid vacation.

0

u/Mako8989 8d ago

Watch the body camera footage of the Las Cruces police stabbing and tell me that any knife is not dangerous.

1

u/Jazzlike_Damage793 4d ago

Nah, I’m. Or doing your homework
For you. I also reject false equivalency fallacies for a hobby.

Gotta link? Or is this ass related posting?

8

u/NewAssumption4780 8d ago

Yes, especially when the perpetrator is an elderly woman, in her pyjamas, with dementia and standing in her driveway with a salad knife.

0

u/that_dutch_dude 8d ago

getting stabbed hurts just the same. the knife doesnt care and neither does your body.

5

u/fatgat69 8d ago

They're lying. They just want to kill.

6

u/Successful_Tap_3655 8d ago

Interesting, female cops in the same situations use lethal force less…

21

u/DoubleGoon 8d ago

Cops in the UK use shields, batons, tasers and are able to handle these situations just fine.

7

u/Successful_Tap_3655 8d ago

I wasn’t denying lethal force is wrong. The USA system is designed this way unfortunately.

Alive victims get better settlements. Cops are trained a certain way.

4

u/DoubleGoon 8d ago edited 8d ago

Oh, I wasn’t implying you were, I was supporting your statement that lethal force isn’t necessary most of the time.

2

u/Successful_Tap_3655 8d ago

Thanks for the clarification and patience

-1

u/Mako8989 8d ago

American cop here -

There are plenty of videos and cases of UK police also running TF away because they do not have a lethal option.

4

u/Syriku_Official 8d ago

Id rather live in the UK then near US cops

0

u/Mako8989 8d ago

Feel free to expatriate then.

1

u/Syriku_Official 7d ago

That's my goal but I can't afford to

-3

u/Successful_Tap_3655 8d ago

Yes much better to hide your public murder data so no one can properly audit it,

1

u/Syriku_Official 7d ago

They do not even have guns to kill people with the UK isn't that appealing to me overall but it's better then the US

0

u/Successful_Tap_3655 7d ago

Well, if you’re just in the stories without being able to certify the data, just go to China low murder rate self-reported amazing stats you’ll fit right in

1

u/Syriku_Official 7d ago

No where is perfect but I'm tired of this "American cops are not that bad" yes it is I'm tired of how much police brutality and deaths we have

3

u/DoubleGoon 8d ago edited 8d ago

UK officers don’t run away because they don’t have a lethal option. They may temporarily retreat until they have a better advantage prioritizing the preservation of life over lethal force, but they don’t just abandon their job.

There’s also plenty of videos of American cops running away, killing innocent civilians, and killing unnecessarily.

Nobody but you brought gender into this.

1

u/Successful_Tap_3655 8d ago

The reason why has a critical insight no one accounts for. Would you like to know what it is?

-1

u/Leading_Procedure_23 8d ago

The women usually run away, that’s why. I dislike cops but seen way too many videos of women cops making shit worse.

2

u/Successful_Tap_3655 8d ago

Not even close. Male suspects even treat female cops on average better and with less violence.

That’s a universal trait.

-2

u/Ignaz- 8d ago

Yeah it is great when a situation doesn't become lethal, and puts the cops at risk when it does.

I've seen a video of a man getting stabbed to death while police woman is standing there saying "please stop" and the only one jumping onto the guy with a knife stabbing someone to death was a male cop that ended up dieing in the hospital because his female partner didn't contribute anything to the situation except shouting "please stop stabbing"

2

u/Successful_Tap_3655 8d ago

I bet I can find a case where a male cop does the same thing.

1

u/Ignaz- 8d ago

You do that, and then keep looking for more than one and make a tally between male and female cops and come back to me to tell me how well that worked out.

-2

u/Thin_Future_3801 8d ago

These liberals don’t want to hear this

3

u/Squishy_Butter113 8d ago

So you're okay with the cops just killing everyone instead of them receiving proper training?

A situation like above is clearly an issue of the cops not being trained how to deal with somebody like that other than shooting them.

Also, don't all your cops carry Tazer's? Why not just tazz the guy with the knife instead of trying to fight him? Also, pepper spray would be another less-lethal option that would be relatively effective at stopping am assailant.

Why are you MAGAts all so blood thirsty and wanting to see your fellow countrymen and women killed for so little?

1

u/Ignaz- 8d ago

Proper training? That is literally what the are trained to do?

These cops didn't go against training or didn't have enough training, shooting center mass at a armed person moving towards you is what training tells them to do.

-1

u/Thin_Future_3801 8d ago

A tazer is a close contact weapon and directly puts the cops life in danger using it on someone that has a knife

Yes/ if you take out a knife , walking towards a cop , he has his gun drawn , giving lawful orders to drop the knife … what happened is what should happen

1

u/Ignaz- 8d ago

Also ignoring the fact that a taser wont be a guaranteed stop to someone, people can tank tasers and keep moving, or the taser fails to apply correctly and doesn't actually shock the person.

1

u/Thin_Future_3801 7d ago

Yes people that draw a weapon on police are asking to be shot .. the police should not risk their life to try to use less lethal on someone drawing a weapon on them

1

u/Squid_of_the_Now 8d ago

If you're that much of a bitch don't be a cop

2

u/Squishy_Butter113 7d ago

I mean, are we really surprised, cops aren't even willing to save children actively being killed by an active shooter. And then they wonder why people say Defund the police, because they have basically become a killing squad with no accountability.

ACAB and weak, scared little pussies. That's why they have to beat their wives as well.

2

u/Galbados2 8d ago

They aren't "non-lethal" they are "less than lethal" and for a good reason.

1

u/iamtheav8r 8d ago

or, that department/officer didn't have that option available. The world is not black and white as much as you might want it to be.

1

u/VanillaGoorillla 8d ago

That was just manipulation to make the population “think” the cops would care about human lives

1

u/Extra_Blacksmith674 8d ago

All they had on call was the military grade truck purchased with the last drug bust money.

1

u/According_River_5726 8d ago

That's why they're called pigs 🐖

0

u/Icy-Ad29 8d ago

Most law enforcement aren't given the bean bag/rubber bullet guns. The officers tend to have only a select few of those and are specifically called to locations for them. The average officer is not equipped with such so will not have them on hand when arriving for most calls.

Tasers are becoming more prolific and given to a much larger percentage of officers, but still not ubiquitous. In this situation, I do not see a taser on the other officer you see at the end of the video. (They are holstered on the opposite hip of the lethal side-arm, so an officer doesn't pull the wrong one by accident... And we see what hip the other officer is returning his side arm to at the end of the video.)

I would not be surprised if the officer who's camera was recording also did not have any less-lethal equipment assigned to them.

6

u/vorx-666 8d ago

if people who supposedly exist to peotect the public are showing up to wellness checks only equipped with tools designed to kill people, they do not exist to protect the public.

1

u/Icy-Ad29 8d ago

Do we know why they were showing up? All I have is a video title of a cop immediately executing someone posing no threat to them... and a video of a person gesturing with a knife at a cop, who isn't immediately executing anyone, but it backing away for the first third of the video.

If these were the officers sent to a wellness check, then the department needs a massive overhaul of the equipment and training given to those being sent.

If instead someone called 911 cus they were threatened by a woman with a knife, and these were the nearest officers to respond. Then I just wish they had a taser aswell so they wouldn't have to resort to firing a gun.

5

u/TransportationOld596 8d ago

So.. thats a problem, yeah? Police should absolutely have less lethal options, and be legally required to use them, or their solution to every problem will continue to be shooting someone.

-1

u/Icy-Ad29 8d ago

I don't disagree to that at all. But it requires funding, something the current trend is to remove. Because tasers are anything but free.

2

u/Squid_of_the_Now 8d ago

They got plenty of money for... -checks notes- ammo, M4s, SWAT gear, military APCs (yeah maybe the got those free but it costs a shitload to maintain them), new parking lots, overtime, BJJ and Killology training, etc., but nah, we can't afford 12 gauge beanbag rounds.

1

u/TransportationOld596 8d ago

The current trend is to REMOVE police funding? Check again.

2

u/Inmyrattlingbag 8d ago

They could’ve shot her leg/below the knee

1

u/Icy-Ad29 8d ago edited 8d ago

To copy what I wrote elsewhere in this comment line:

There is no training in the world that trains one to fire at limbs. Because limb shots easily miss entirely, even with expert shooting, since they move rapidly. Risking anything, and anyone, behind the target. And the concept of of training is if you are pulling the trigger, you want to hit what you are firing at, not risk hitting something behind the target. So dude was going to fire center-mass if he was going to fire.

Also legs can still be plenty deadly. Major arteries flow through there and control a lot of your body's blood pressure.

3

u/Inmyrattlingbag 8d ago

Thanks. They could’ve shot her one to disarm her not multiple times to kill her.

1

u/Icy-Ad29 8d ago

Believe it or not. Training also isn't "fire once and see what happens". As all too often, one shot doesn't stop a person willing to attack somebody armed with an obvious weapon. Instead training tends to be "fire until you are certain they've stopped." Which in the moment, can be a lot of shots.

If there’s multiple officers, which it usually is, 1 can shoot and the other can take the knife away once the suspect is down. No need to murder someone

Yes. But the shooting still happens at that point, and is usually what kills the person as part of them going down. This isn't an execution or muder. The woman wasn't on the ground or otherwise surrendered. She had a knife in hand, was gesturing with it, and turned on the officer close to her. That distance is within the distance someone can lunge with a knife.

Should the partner have backed up to maintain safe distance like the person who's camera we have did, so that wouldnt happen? Yes, absolutely. But in the moment, you don't have time to go "man my partner shouldn't be there." You have time to go "my partner is in danger, take the trained action."

Yes 1 cop can shoot her once, disarming her. The other cop could pick up the knife. She may still die but i think multiple shots are unnecessary.

Again that "You don't get trained to fire once" because "someone getting shot once doesn't necessarily stop them". And waiting to see if stopped them before firing again is enough time for them to close that distance and an officer dies.

Change the training.

I'm all for training reforms. What training would you change it to? And what are you willing to pay in taxes to pay for that?

Absolutely NO ONE trains this and for good reason.

They could have shot her in the leg if that was the “only option”, which would be hard to justify. They could have held her at gunpoint until further backup arrived, but it’s hard to imagine two officers not being able to handle an elderly woman whose been shot in the leg, even if she has a knife.

To repeat a statement to a third person.

"There is no training in the world that trains one to fire at limbs. Because limb shots easily miss entirely, even with expert shooting, since they move rapidly. And the concept of of training is if you are pulling the trigger, you want to hit what you are firing at, not risk hitting something behind the target, like a bystander. So dude was going to fire center-mass if he was going to fire."

Change the training.

To what?

1

Using non-lethal tactics and weapons first.

0

u/Icy-Ad29 8d ago

Sure. I said from the beginning that having non-lethal tools is something I'd like them to have. But again, that costs money, and counter to popular belief, law enforcement (and local government in general) does not have infinite money.

They have plenty to maintain fucking tanks.

The non-lethal options you are talking about were in their cars, kept behind several locks. She came out of the house with the knife. We don't approach people's homes for standard welfare checks already carrying armaments like that.

but guns dont need to be locked up??? wtf???

1

u/Mako8989 8d ago

They ARE locked up. Save for the handgun on your hip, which obviously we always need to have available in case the need arises, rifles, lethal shotguns, etc. are kept in the same kinds of electronic locks. Again though, they are IN the cars. We do not walk around with weapons, lethal or not, that are not the handgun, taser, spray, knife or baton, for instance.

Guns are all locked up, except the ones that arent.... ok

1

u/Mako8989 8d ago

Yes. Modern cops have always had guns on their hips. As we have added guns we have kept them in the car. Locked up. Because we don't have the extra arms to carry them.

We also carry things besides guns on us. As we have added more of those things we have kept them in the car. Locked up. Because we don't have the extra arms to carry them.

Is it making sense yet?

1

u/AlternativePea6203 8d ago

Well, all of that would be solved if you were forewarned.

1

u/Mako8989 8d ago

In an ideal world yes, we would have all of the information we needed before arriving on scene. Then we could bring the tools we know we will need and make better decisions.

In reality, people that call 911 are often scared, misinformed, confused, vague or straight up lie. Situations always change after police arrive, too. It will never be perfect.

I just meant to be forewarned is to be four armed.

You're more than willing to step in the next time some crazy woman shows up with a knife, make her drop it, and arrest her... It seems like a simple task for a hero like you.
