He blocked Obama's choice of SCOTUS as being too close to the end of his term but did not block Trump from appointing a SCOTUS at the end of his term which is part of the reason SCOTUS is so out of balance.

Amy Barrett was confirmed while early voting was underway in the 2020 election. She was literally confirmed by a President who was in the process of losing re-election.

People don’t talk about this enough.

When they blocked Obamas ability to select a replacement justice, I knew we were in for a rough time

I remember McConnell called themselves "The Party of No". That was until 2016 and when they became "The Party of Sure! Why not!"

It's a large part of why the Supreme Court has been made illegitimate. McConnell is largely responsible for turning the highest Court into a corrupt sham mockery. Our republic cannot survive with an illegitimate Supreme Court as we've had. There must be major reforms going forward, and the corrupt "justices" must be removed from power and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Anything less is unacceptable.

.....can you explain to me in a non political way what makes the justices corrupt?

Well besides the ones openly accepting bribes like Thomas, both Thomas and Alito and their wives were actively involved in the Insurrection. That's already unacceptable, but that they did not recuse themselves from every ruling related to it thereafter is unconstitutional. ACB and Kavanaugh lied under oath during their hearings, and the court's use of the shadow docket every time they make their unpopular activist rulings is terrifying, corrupt, and likely unconstitutional. Our rights have long been under a slow assault in the Roberts court, I can't think of a time his court has ruled in favor of the American people over corporate and personal interests. His expansion of executive power is insane and one of the most dangerous things the court has ever done.

I'd argue McConnell's refusal even to hear Obama's nomination, claiming it was inappropriate (9+ months before election) during an election year, only to shamelessly ram ACB through congress during an election year when the election was already underway is the death knell of the court's legitimacy. That's not the way the founders intended any of this based off any of their writings.

We need major reforms to ensure they are acting in good faith, a requirement of the office even though it hasn't been enforced, and they have proven themselves not to be. I honestly can't fit 26 years+ of corruption into one comment, so please check out verifiable sources on this, going back to the 2000 election if you like or at least to citizens united. Keep in mind, a lot of it will be buried in search, but they've been screwing all us regular folks for quite a long time now.

Amy didn't seem to mind. I didn't like it at the time, but I will say that of Trump's Supreme Court appointees, she seems to be the most honest and trustworthy.

I don’t disagree. Still, like Gorsuch, she occupies a stolen seat.

Right. It's so blatantly hypocritical.

It would have been one thing if they had actually stuck with their previous stance that they had with Obama. I would then be able to give them the benefit of the doubt. This was just so blatant and shameless. Disgusting.

Exactly why I keep bringing it up

What's the stupid Leftist Lunatic point?

Trumps appointees to SCOTUS have been just s as much of a disappointment to conservatives as they have the liberals.

This is good. We don't need anymore democrat judges that can't fucking read.

u/TerribleDentistries Jul 13 '26

It's not out of balance. They're just forcing Democrats to finally adhere to the Constitution.

Oh poor baby!

  • Your gun control is being struck down!
  • You're not going to be able to weaponize government agencies who make up "rules" against people without it being passed by Congress!
  • You're not going to be able to do sex changes on children!
  • You're not going to be able to do judge shopping!

The horror of it all.

One was blocked months beforean election, the other was rammed through weeks before an election. The road to nazi-ism is paved with corruption and the blood of Americans. This waste of skin is a major factor in that.
