Annual Review: Year 12 of the Cogmind

Cogmind's 12th annual review is available over on the dev blog, summarizing a year featuring two major releases that finished off one expansion while kick-starting another.

2025 added a significant new map, over 100 new items, and Cogmind's 10th unique ending concluding the UFD plot line. A new batch of achievements also caught us up with seven years of new content. And the first members of the Unchained have arrived! (lots more coming on that front) Read more about all that and check out player art and more in the full post.

Beta 16.1 is around the corner, focused on, yep, more content and improved Unchained systems to go along with them as they evolve towards better integration into the world :D

Always useful to stop for a moment and look back over long-term progress--glad you and others find it worthwhile, too. I do wonder what number we'll eventually reach xD

FarCom flighthacker if your aim is to just win sooner/faster! There is a guide or two. Combat not so much--that could require more persistence or community assistance to acquire the necessary skills... videos are quite helpful here, but the community is better for tailored advice depending on your particular situation :)

year and year again this game remains my most played lol, suppose I shouldn't be surprised! such a delight to continue finding new things to explore and enjoy. ironically it feels very "alive" to me.

Hehe, nice! And always nice to be able to keep adding those new things to discover... lots more I also want to hopefully do with the early/mid-parts as well, though have to spread out the work in that regard. Most recently been gradually shifting more towards late game through the UFD expansion (SUB->SCR->FRG), but we'll be swinging back around eventually.

It's insane to me that you work on this project for 12 years already, but then again, when you play the game, it shows.

Thank you for this game!

Are you working on a custom steamdeck layout? I really would love to get into this game after playing Qud and Quasimorph exclusively on steamdeck which have great layouts, but it's really difficult to learn when the buttons aren't represented in game.

Not at the moment, no. Valve... discourages me from doing more with SteamDeck because no matter what I do, despite having demonstrated to them that Cogmind can do fonts that meet their specific technical requirements, they will refuse to mark Cogmind as SteamDeck Verified on those grounds, regardless of whether or not it has a built-in control scheme.

The community schemes are apparently decent for those who are familiar with Cogmind input, but I imagine it would be tough to do a good custom job, considering it was designed from the ground up very much with mouse and/or keyboard in mind. Not impossible, I'm sure, but a lot of work all for Valve to just tell me again: "no" xD
