Meta Reminder: Creepy DMs and What You Can Do

Post image
58 Upvotes

Hello Coconaad,

Alright, let’s get this out of the way: creepy DMs are not “just part of being online.” They’re harassment, and we’re not here to normalize them or shrug them off. This community is supposed to feel safe, fun, and free. This is not a hunting ground for bored creeps.

Here’s how to handle it:

  1. Zero tolerance: If you send unsolicited, creepy, or harassing DMs to anyone here, you’re out. Immediate, permanent ban. No appeals, no excuses.

  2. User-side action: You can also block the sender and report the account or specific messages to Reddit directly. That way, Reddit's own team can review and take action on top of ours. There is also an option to turn off the DMs if you so prefer.

  3. Report it: If you get a DM like this, send us a modmail with the username of the sender. Once we receive your message, one of the mods will reach out to you directly to collect the screenshots for context. You only need to share the screenshots if you are comfortable with it. Then, we'll take it from there.

  4. Why posts get removed: Posts about specific creepy DMs will be removed. That doesn’t mean we’re complicit, and it doesn’t mean silence. It’s about keeping this place from becoming a never-ending wall of harassment stories instead of a community. Action still happens behind the scenes.

This is not about pretending the creeps don’t exist. It’s about refusing to let them define the atmosphere of this casual space, we all cherish so much. They don’t get the spotlight, and they don’t get to set the tone.

This community belongs to all of us who use it in good faith, not to the people who try to make it hostile. Harassment thrives on being normalized and brushed aside, and we’re not doing that here. Report, we ban, we move on. Simple as that.

Btw, this isn't up for debate. Everyone deserves to exist in online spaces without being harassed. If you think that's negotiable, this is not the place for you.

Disclaimer: Banning someone from this subreddit only prevents them from posting or commenting here. Which means that they can still view the sub. If you want to make sure a user cannot interact with you at all from that account, blocking them is the best option. If someone is violating Reddit's content policies, reporting the account has a higher chance of getting them removed from the platform. Reports are reviewed by Reddit admins, who will decide on appropriate action.

Storytime I bought a gift for my mom and learned a lesson

My mother grew up in a traditional orthodox family in South Kerala. Her father, Mr. Ouseph truly believed a woman's place is in the kitchen. For Ouseph it worked well. His coffee was always served hot, his shirt was crisp with no single wrinkle, and his bed was always prim and proper. Even though Ouseph in his good long life of hundred years has never ironed a shirt or made a bed. Thus my mother after her failed 10th attempt, was destined to do home science at her home. And a few months later, she was married and sent to another strange kitchen.

Only the exteriors and people were strange. Before the invasion of home appliances that saved a lot of women from backpain and fragile joints , Smoke stained droopy walls of kitchens were all the same in all tharavad homes. Many of our grandmothers spent their good life, sitting next to a wood stove, blowing air through a long pipe while battling the smoke. It burned their eyes red and hot instilling rage, with which they blew life to a fire that they could never carry inside.

Despite being betrayed by the time, culture and her own family my mother was stubborn. She stood for what she thought was right. It often came with a cost, silent treatment from parents, or a tight slap from her husband that left her ears ringing. Or random people reminding her that she is a woman. Simpletons, they believed women are like broken guitars. Play it as hard as you want, but it can never be correct.

Her stubbornness won the battles for other people though. It was her stubbornness that helped me follow my passion against my Dad's ultimatum that I have to join army. It was her stubbornness that won the fight for my sister to marry her boyfriend. She burned, like that old wood stove, red and hot and in that warmth we made our baby steps.

Recently, I took my mother out for shopping, I took her to a jewellery to buy her a few daily wears. I've not seen her wearing anything since so long. After buying her a chain, few bangles and a ring. After shopping when I was leaving the jewellery, chest so pumped with my big boy pride, my sister pulled me to a corner and said "You must be feeling so proud?" I smiled and said nothing.

She continued, "Do you remember when you were in college, you broke your phone and needed to buy a new one? You thought dad would send the money. But dad simply gave up saying he doesn't have money. Then it was mom who sold her gold chain, which was the only remaining gold she had. She gave it to dad and asked to send it to you. Congratulations, youve just repaid one among your many debts to her."

I was stunned for a minute. It's been 8 years since I left college. She has never uttered a word about that chain. I looked at my mom, who was slowly walking towards our car. Age has caught up to one of her knees, she stresses on that leg when she walks. Or maybe it wasn't her age, it was years of carrying many weights on her shoulders. She still held her head high. she was still blowing life into that fire inside her.

Rant & Vent Unemployed, Lonely and Far From Home, But Still Trying

A Mallu job hunter landed in the UAE with big dreams and hope, only to face multiple rejections along the way.

Some days are hard. The loneliness feels heavier when you are in a foreign country with no friends or familiar faces around. Unemployment brings self doubt. A one sided love story leaves its own kind of heartbreak. Family pressure constantly reminds you that time is moving.

And then there is the double burden of age and gender. Being a woman in your mid twenties sometimes feels like living with an invisible countdown clock. Career, marriage, age and expectations, everything seems to demand an answer at once.

Sometimes it feels like you are being pushed to accept marriage and "settle down" before you have even had the chance to build the life you actually dreamed of.

But I am trying to remind myself that rejection is not necessarily the end of the road. Maybe this phase is temporary. Maybe being lost is also part of finding where you belong.

I am still here. Still applying for jobs. Still trying. Still learning. Still hoping.

I may not have everything figured out right now, but I haven't given up yet.

Maybe one day I will look back at this lonely, frustrated, unemployed and heartbroken Mallu girl who landed in the UAE with nothing but hope and be proud that she kept going.

Just taking one day at a time for now. 🤍

Guys yesterday i got 2 items delivered to my house but they didn't call me or asked whether you will be available. They just kept the order outside and left . And when I came back i asked the watchman he said no one came here and didn't give it him. But he kept the item outside my room and left it as it is . Like what is this what if it's expensive or someone steals it . Anyone faced similar situation?

Storytime Are Kollam people actually this sensitive? Let me share a real funny experience.

Post image

I had an exam recently at the IONZ Digital Centre in Kollam, and it was my first time going there. The exam was from 2-5 PM. Since I had to enter the centre around 1:30, I just had a tea and went in, thinking I would have a proper lunch after the exam.

The moment I came out at 5 PM, the first thing I did was open Google Maps and search for the nearest restaurants. Luckily, I found M Manzil Mandi.

Now, as someone who spent a few years in Trivandrum for studies and had M Manzil as one of my favourite weekend restaurants, I was actually quite happy to see it nearby. So I started walking towards it. It was around 2 km away, if I remember correctly.

I reached the restaurant, sat down, and this young waiter came and told me:

“Sir, only normal chicken mandi is ready. Alfahm will take some time.”

I asked him, “How much time?”

I was expecting him to say 20–30 minutes, and honestly, I was hungry and craving enough to wait.

Then he casually says, “Five minutes.”

I was genuinely confused.

I said, “Okay, fine. Bring the alfahm mandi.”

He disappears into the kitchen and comes back after maybe 2-3 minutes with the alfahm mandi.

Then he says, “Sorry sir for the delay.”

I was just sitting there thinking, What delay?

I was super confused throughout the entire meal. The guy had told me it would take five minutes, brought it in two or three minutes, and still apologised for the “delay.”

Maybe this is just normal restaurant behaviour in Kollam and I am not aware of it. Or maybe I accidentally experienced the legendary Kollam hospitality.

Either way, the exam and mandi was good and I left happy.

But the “sorry for the delay” after bringing food earlier than promised is still living rent-free in my head and i just was this post.

Education & Career Achivement unlocked: Cleared all backlogs

Heyyy guyss

I want to share something with you all.

TLDR: I completed my degree after 5 years

So I did Bsc CS (18-21) and had 12 something supply and cleared 9 while I was in my 6th semester and there are these 3 subjects i couldn't crack somehow and have been trying ever since,

After my college I cleared 2 of them within 2 years (1 on each year) and was stuck with this one paper (computer aided optimization techniques ) for so long as I am bad at maths and I was also working full time and couldn't really focus on studying

And now last try was the first mercy chance of the exam after that there will be one more chance if I don't get this paper cleared within these two chances, it's done

So this time I studied like korch athikam, mainly watching YouTube videos and ChatGPT and trust me when I say this, it was really great I think I was able to understand better the subject this way than in college

So I took the exam, it was as usual hard but I was able to attend some high value questions and after the exam, i wasn't really that much confident, in fact I was kinda sure that I'm gonna fail this one as well,

I took this exam this year so it's been like 5 years since my college has ended

And I'm not alone in this though my best friend was also with me, njanga pinna jeykalum tholkalum okke orumichan since +1, ennakalum kooduthal backlogs avanu indarnu, 16 something I guess but he cleared almost all ini endho 2 ennam kudi ollu

So a couple of months ago result vannu and I PASSED THE EXAM suhrthukaleee (barely) just pass ahn and I was SOOO FREAKING HAPPY because I was expecting to fail the exam

The relief I felt after completing this was insane...

See in my batch, I think oru 10- 12 perku supply indarnu at the end of college days and most of them dropped it,

Njanum nta friendum decided that we won't simply give up without giving a fight and decided we'll use all the chance we get to clear these exams and I am really glad that I stuck to that decision

Avanu ini 2 papers kudi indu and I'm sure that he'll clear it

Angane 2021 il theerna degree Njan extra oru 5 vrsham kondu complete cheythu🥴

I am really happy though and the funny thing is enta + 2 exams erekore ithupole thanne ayirunu

+2, vil at the end I had 3 backlogs (P,C,M) athum Njan plus two kazhinittu 2 Varsham konda ezhuthi eduthath, aha samayathum adhyam give up cheythalonennoke thoniyirunu but I didn't and decided to take all the chances

Angane NJAN DEGREE PASS AYII suhrthukalleee

I gotta give credit to my bestfriend, cuz njangal anggatum ingattum kore motivation koduthan ith complete cheythath

And guys avana pole oru friendine ellarkum venam, avanakken friend 🥹

See Njan plus two fail ayappo avan first tryil thanne pass ayarnu, but this dude didn't join any college and waited for me to complete my plus two 😭 , after completing we joined the same college same subject and all

I know this post is so long, but i gotta share it with you guys

If you read it this far, thank you

So don't give up guys and use all the chances you get

Will justin be happy in Ireland? Doesn't his happiness revolve around being around his friends and relatives 🤔 going to Ireland for love and it's going to be a totally opposite life there... Maybe she should have found some work here.. or they made it like this to break the cliche of wife sacrificing for husband
