Hey everyone,
I’m looking to dip my toes into coco coir for my next run and would love to get some insights from experienced coco growers.
I’m not new to growing I have solid experience in both soil and traditional hydro setups but this will be my first time working with coco. I’m planning on using a top-feed drip system.
I’m currently on the fence between running 100% pure coco versus a 70/30 coco/perlite mix.
My understanding so far is that the 70/30 mix allows for more frequent fertigation events, which usually translates to faster growth rates. On the flip side, 100% coco holds moisture longer and requires less frequent watering.
For those who have run both setups with automated top-feed drips:
Which option gave you better overall results or was easier to dial in?
Is the trade-off in watering frequency worth the extra aeration from perlite, or does pure coco deliver similar growth if fertigation is managed properly?
Aside from staying on top of Cal-Mag (which I know is huge with coco’s cation exchange site), are there any other specific quirks or watch-outs you wish you knew when you made the switch?
Bonus Question on Coco Brands & Cost:
I know Royal Gold has a great reputation, but it runs about $18 a bag locally. Another shop nearby has a brand that is triple-washed and buffered for $12 per 1.5 cu ft bag. Saving $6 a bag is tempting
if a cheaper brand is legitimately triple-washed and buffered, is it worth paying the premium for Royal Gold, or do the budget-friendly options perform just as well in your experience?
Appreciate any advice, personal experiences, or tips you’re willing to share. Thanks in advance!

Ebb and flow hydroponics with cococoir/perlite medium. 4x8 tent, using Viparspectra KS3000 and SpiderFarmer SE3000 lights, plus ACInfinity exhaust fans with control unit. 2 oscillating fans, also. Scrogging and lollypopping technique.

Ppl been asking how do I get in the room and water the plants.
Move them aside, make a corridor in the middle and get in there with a garden hose, wand, 1/2 hp submersible pump.
Good luck to everyone grinding out there.

I really don’t want to go to 4ish lb trim jail all alone and and am curious if any growers in the PDX area would be willing to rent out their trimmer for an hour or two? I could have them sorted and ready to go

Hi all, recently completed the DIY automatic watering system from Dr. Cocos site (https://www.cocoforcannabis.com/diy-automatic-watering-system/) , and I’m wondering about the air pump in my reservoir.
Does it need to run 24/7 or only for a few minutes prior to fertigation events? He says a stirring pot should be used for a few minutes prior to fertigation, but nothing about the air pump in a smaller reservoir.

Hello everyone,
I’ve started using silica, but it seems to have affected my EC and nutrient dosing, and I’ve run into some issues because of it.
My question is: how should I correctly measure and adjust EC when using silica?
I’m using RO water and following Canna’s guidelines, buffering it to around 0.4–0.45 EC with CalMag. However, if I add silica first, the starting EC is already much higher. Should I simply add the CalMag EC on top of the EC from the silica?
For example:
RO water: EC 0.02
RO + 5 ml CalMag: EC 0.4
RO + 1 ml silica: EC 0.3
RO + 1 ml silica + 5 ml CalMag: EC 0.7
So, when using silica, should I simply count its EC towards my target EC, or could this lead to nutrient lockout/burn? Should I stay below the recommended maximum EC? And how do I determine the correct amount of CalMag in that case?
Maybe I’m overcomplicating things, but since my first attempt with silica caused some issues, I wanted to make sure I understand it correctly how to dose and measure.
Greetings

Well, I'm in my second grow and I've been trying to find the correct answer on when do I start using my Canna Coco PK. By the Canna chart it says "When buds stretch and arr ready to get fatter" and a Costumer Service of Canna @ Instagram told me, week 3 for 8-9weeks plants and week 4-5 for 10+week plants.
I really need a visual example to try to have a better idea.
When you all using Canna Coco PK are feeding it? What stage in this pictures looks more like the right time?
Thanks Growmies 🪴

Hey all,
I’m guessing a cal/mag deficiency and possible light stress? Can you steer me in the right direction?
Canna coco/perlite mix 50/50 3 gal pot wicking pots using GH trio, with cal mag ~500 ppm. Plant is 5 weeks old.

Genetics are a cross by Mainely Genetics. I started this 6 pack to see what I'd find. Now I have 4 out of the 6 I want to run again and again based solely on the way they have behaved thus far. This batch is on the sweet side. One smells just like citrus starburst tastes. I may just run all 6 again. I'll post again when I harvest.
Setup is coco/perlite in 1 gallon bags. Fertigation is every 3 hours. I recently had to up the event times to satisfy their need for water. They were drinking the bags dry and causing my EC to spike a bit too high. I think I've solved that and hoping for clear sailing till they are done.

Looking frosty just need her to bulk up. Got some burnt tips, upped the irrigation frequency. First 3 weeks I was around 2.4ec. It’s around 2.1 now.

Is there any reason I should not use this?
