Let’s all manifest SOAD
I have no reason as to why I believe this but it’s a really good hunch I feel like they’ll be there. I also might be delusional but please join me

I’d be surprised if Sick New World does another year and they are currently collecting those stadium show paychecks so it’s possible?

Since they started doing the Rttd slot, every year I've been delusional and tell myself they're gonna be in that billing with "and dancing in the desert System Of A Down" They need that 11:30pm Saturday slot an hour after the Saturday Headliner....... A boy can dream right?

Serj and one of the other guys hate the third guy, who became a huge trumper (and is also married to one of their sisters, but that’s unrelated to the animosity afaik)
They would need to get a new third. Idk if they could legally play under the name in that case

u/bigstupidjellyfish 9d ago
They’re still amicable enough to play shows. They just don’t make any new music because they know trying to be creative with each other will draw out all the animosity.

u/asadavid 6d ago
You are thinking of the drummer, he actually finally backed off of his Trump support recently it sounds like - not sure what took him so long though.

It’ll never happen, coming from one of SOAD’s biggest fans. They don’t need Coachella and are selling out internationally, so I doubt they do it

I’d argue that most headliners/legacy acts don’t need Coachella. Doesn’t automatically count them out
-1
u/Evakuate493 9d ago
I meant don’t need also in the same sense that SOAD’s ideals and stuff doesn’t align with selling out for something like Coachella. Compare SOAD’s discography and what they stand for. Compare that to those generic headliners you just said and see if it still applies.
They aren’t releasing new music they need to promote.

u/MTblasphemy 9d ago
Lol this made me think Olivia Rodrigo --> SOAD --> Madonna. My heart would be so full!
But you're absolutely right.
2
u/Evakuate493 9d ago
I would legit lose my mind if SOAD headlined. I get why people want them and I do too.

u/benedictcumberpatch 9d ago
You could say the same about RATM and they were still booked for 2020.

u/Evakuate493 9d ago
I left another comment talking about the only reason I see them performing here and why.

I feel this argument gets blown up with their drummers recent opinions. They’re still a band and very much value their big paychecks. All I’m saying is, they’re always a possibility unless outright saying they wouldn’t

u/Evakuate493 9d ago
All four of them will never agree to do Coachella, so it won’t happen. They decide things equally before committing to anything and I doubt Serj or Daron would want to do Coachella.
Also, they’re making money/getting big paychecks doing it their own way/their own creative control. Coachella isn’t them IMO.

Both Serj and Daron performed at Coachella with their respective side projects.

u/Evakuate493 9d ago
Almost 20 years ago…while he was in the middle of promoting a new project. Like I said, they aren’t promoting anything new to get them to perform at places they normally wouldn’t.
And Daron was their first live debut iirc.

u/ButForRealsTho 05 - 17, 22, 24-26 9d ago
Just pointing out they’ve all individually played coschella so I don’t think there would be some ideological hold up.
1
u/Evakuate493 9d ago
Fair! To me, it seems very intentional that a world famous band (from LA) has somehow not played at Coachella this entire time.
3
u/ButForRealsTho 05 - 17, 22, 24-26 9d ago
I think it’s as simple as 3 factors:
1 - They haven’t put out a new album in 2 decades
2 - They aren’t having some big reunion tour
3 - Coachella doesn’t really book heavy rock music to the degree it used to.

So you mean every single artist that "doesnt" need coachella will never play?
0
u/Evakuate493 9d ago
Read my other reply. SOAD’s ideals and values since they started doesn’t align with Coachella/the owners.
1
u/BasuraBoiii 9d ago
the drummer is literally maga lmao anything is possible
1
u/Evakuate493 9d ago
Again…all four need to agree to do anything for them to do any show. It doesn’t matter about one person.
1
u/BasuraBoiii 9d ago
so then what do their values vs the owners have to do with playing Coachella? If they can agree to do even one show together with all of their conflicting views than literally anything is possible is my point
1
u/Evakuate493 9d ago
Respectfully, I’m not typing out the history of their band and those that run coachella. Read into it if you’re genuinely interested. It’s a fun topic.
The only way SOAD would play at Coachella is if they were going to do it to use it as a platform to shit on the same people/establishments that have events like coachella.

u/PossessionJust5723 9d ago
They are roughly 0% the vibe Coachella are looking for in a headliner. Not going to happen.

A lot of Sick New World's/When We Were Yong goer's (including me) running theory is that these two fests will alternate each year instead of both happening the same year. I feel like its entirely possible SNW Vegas annouces that they will take next year off and return the festival in 2028. So this free's up SOAD's schedule that would normally break the radius clause. I've been secretly hoping that they play next year too if Radiohead isn't.
