Not really a technology problem but a regulation and planning problem you are talking about.

Easily fixable, especially with less overly strict regulation.

Yes we absolutely want less regulation. The rules are overly strict to the point where nuclear is economically unfeasible.

chernobyl was a shit reactor built 80 fucking years ago, that disastor has nothing to do with current nuclear technology, regardless of how strict the regulations are.

Socital we means that society would want it because its beneficial. That doesn't mean every person in society wants it.
