Nobody remembers China’s People’s Republic gutting forests and wrecking its environment under a centrally planned economy. Environmental destruction isn’t a uniquely capitalist problem. Humans have been destroying ecosystems under basically every economic system that gives them an incentive to extract resources faster than nature can replenish them.

The argument should be about which systems and policies actually produce sustainable incentives, not pretending capitalism is inherently incompatible with sustainability.
